  1. The NFL has an exemption too doesn't it
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 11:59 AM) On the other hand...it's also plausible they could use it as a way to whip up additional anti-Israeli furor, which is something that happens quite consistently. Especially when the civilian casualty images start showing up on TV. The Saudi gov't does whatever it wants to do, and the feelings of their population might be entirely different from what they're doing.
  3. Well he's kind of right, the Saudis don't really like Iran. That's plausible.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 10:24 PM) Cuts both ways, kap. Israel keeps them as perpetually occupied territory -- they're not their own state, they're not part of Israel, they're under strict economic restrictions, they're not free to move, etc. Israel's military excursions do far more damage than Hamas' s***ty rockets. This does not excuse Hamas or their actions, but a balanced view is needed. Israel is given a free pass on just about anything they want to do in this country. And I really just wish we would treat them like we treat any other country.
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 08:41 PM) Surprise, torture doesn't work. http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2009/09/badintelligence/ People can't get over seeing it as a punitive measure so they never really question their own logic. Terrorists are bad people who did bad things and they must be punished, and it's silly to suggest there is a limit to how much punishment they should get. Whether this argument is valid or not is totally irrelevant though and people who do it are wasting time talking about it, and usually don't realize it.
  6. You are awfully forgiving of Bennett, Cutler, and the O-line.
  7. Yeah I got off track for a minute. Most of what I said applies to Israel too. Iraq's response to having their facilities bombed was to sponsor terrorism against Israel for the next couple of decades, Iran is already doing that but they'd step it up (they could if they wanted).
  8. Blaming the D in any way for Week 1's loss is silly, that was on the offense and all the turnovers.
  9. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 05:31 PM) Not really. I mean their whole infastructure was designed for fighting in the 1980s. Now they've got some technology with it. In a full-blown state-on-state conflict of course they'd lose to the United States if we turned all our attention/resources to them, political/financial feasibility notwithstanding. But they are fully aware that the first thing we'd do is destroy their command and control infrastructure, so they are designed to fight asymetrically and autonomously (read: brutal insurgency). An occupation of Iran would be a b****, virtually impossible. And I bet they have contingency plans stored for some terrorist activity if they needed to. I also think there is a tendency among some here in the U.S. to severely underestimate their will to fight if that did happen. Just because there is a wave of pro-Western and anti-Iranian government sentiment around their country lately doesn't mean they won't resist a foreign military. We should have learned this lesson from Iraq and we already should see how they'd respond based on the Iraq-Iran war.
  10. So I have a gym membership, which of course I never use but I have to keep paying until January. Anyway I had it set to automatically bill me and I get a note in the mail today saying I owe like 300-something dollars. So I'm like WTF is this s***, they say they didn't get my card's expiration date so they just stopped charging me. I never noticed, and they never notified me, they wait until now to do it. And they have the audacity to charge me a late fee too. Decision made: gym membership in 2010 unnecessary
  11. Likewise I think you'd be surprised by how strong Iran's military actually is.
  12. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) If Isreal does it right, not a damn thing. Unless the Israelis can quickly and decisively take out the Iranian military and their paramilitary forces (highly unlikely to say the least) then I really doubt this. The Iranians are pretty nationalist, even the pro-Western ones, and they wouldn't just let that slide.
  13. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 10:44 AM) Iran has a young and pro-western youth. You don't wanna see that go away overnight. We dropped the ball on this once, no reason for us to repeat the mistakes of 2 generations ago. What I want to know is what people think Iran will do if Israel actually did bomb them.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 01:36 PM) Guaranteed. I normally complain about how biased the courts tend to be towards responsible fathers but when a guy acts like he's doing the mother a favor or makes a bunch of excuses I don't have much to say. Had he just cooperated a bare minimum amount she'd have kept letting him slide. He couldn't even do that. Oh well.
  15. So my wife had a court appointment this morning, going to try to get child support from her daughter's father. This is not going to go well for him, he's going to be pissed off when he inevitably loses his case but he should've thought about this while he was in the process of failing to meet even my wife's absurdly low expectations (she only wanted like 100 a month). Whatever the court decides it'll be much, much more than that.
  16. Well he does have some big f***ing ears.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 08:54 AM) Obama is going. lol at the comments. I really need to stop doing that. No wonder I'm so arrogant.
  18. Yeah this is obviously BS as has been noted a few times already, because this "deal" straight up would be one of the worst of all-time. Legit boycott material.
  19. Obvious observations: Jamarcus Russell is terrible and will never amount to anything in the NFL.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 08:09 PM) man. I REALLY hope they start Beekman next week. It's f***ing laughable that Omiyale is starting let alone on the team.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 07:39 PM) The Bears would be 0-3 without that trade. I wrote the same thing elsewhere but I doubt Orton throws 4 interceptions in that first week vs. GB... still not a given they would've won, the way they were playing.
  22. Game. Ugly, but I'll take it. Cutler 21/27, 247 3 TD 1 INT.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 07:06 PM) Hester has made some great catches with his hands today. As opposed to what... lol
  24. QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 07:07 PM) yeah good point...he really has....he's been impressive For the whole season.
