QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 10:09 AM) Way to wait a whole 2 minutes. Good job! It's not there. I'll back him up on this. (I supported the bid).
-
BigSqwert's reasons for not wanting the Olympic bid didn't have anything to do with national politics. And actually the only one openly "celebrating" was AHB.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 10:06 AM) It has always been a political award. ^^

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) Those scientists who get awarded usually wait decades for recognition of their contributions. They don't get the Nobel while they're still doing the research. They gave the award to the German chancellor before the wall came down, to Gorbachev for trying to reform the Soviet Union, etc. I mean, I'm not saying Obama deserved the award, but it's not unprecedented for them to do it this way either. It's not like it's something new where they just decided their award didn't mean anything anymore.
-
That is a lot more complicated than you guys say it is. It's not like he can just pull everything back instantly and be done by the end of the year.
-
We all pretty much agreed that he hasn't accomplished anything but he's not the first one to be awarded at the beginning rather than the end.
-
I am petty, and sort of enjoying the fact that this is like a symbolic kick in the balls to Matt Drudge who often tries to imply what the "rest of the world" thinks of Obama when he has obviously never read anything other than American or British news in his life.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 09:21 AM) Of course you missed the big picture. Eh the comparison is not a good one. The Olympics don't have anything to do with Obama directly. Awarding him a Nobel Peace Prize does (we all agree that he hasn't accomplished much yet besides laying out how he's going to get there).

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 09:13 AM) Except that it was tied to abstinence-only education without condoms. I'm no Bush apologist but it was far more than anyone else has ever done. They loved him there for it. No joke. Probably the only place Bush is popular outside of the Bible Belt and Israel.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 09:06 AM) Eh, Bush had the admirable AIDS policy. True enough. That's on the short list of notable things he did right or didn't completely f*** up.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 08:06 AM) nominations were due Feb 1, 2009, so he was in office for around 10 days when people nominated him for the award.... Bush got nominated too. I think the US president just gets nominated by default.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 08:59 AM) Surely this is bad for America, though. lol seriously. It's being nay-sayed already in some pretty ridiculous ways.
-
I thought about it some more and I think it was more an investment of political capital in him than it was an actual award. But I mean... so odd thinking about how he's made no secret he's considering adding troops to Afghanistan.
-
Holy s*** talk about things that are COMPLETELY unexpected. I saw this just a few minutes ago and figured it was an April Fool's joke or something.

Please GMAFB with the "blind hate" accusations and actually read the posts and what they're saying.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 04:37 PM) What I wanna know, What I really wanna know. . . is WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?!! Tits and stuff. You know, like most 14 year old boys think about.

I document my hate and disdain for ESPN pretty well on this site, but I will actually defend them here - Millen was a pretty decent TV analyst before he became a GM and his total, unequivocal, thoroughly epic failure as a GM doesn't mean he couldn't still be a decent TV analyst. This was also before sports journalism became such a joke.

No mocking needed because that was a really good album. However, I owned this CD early on in high school: I should be waterboarded. I have no excuses.

The whole concept of conservapedia is just odd to me. The internet is a free, open, unlimited, mostly unrestricted exchange of information and it's too inherently liberally biased to be trusted? lol.
-
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 12:29 AM) I doubt it. I don't know anyone who would ever PAY for ESPN Insider. I'm slowly but surely starting to hate ESPN. Mike and Mike and "The Herd" are unbearable.... I don't understand how anyone couldn't have already started hating ESPN.

QUOTE (3E8 @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 12:24 AM) Did anyone see the film? Is he saying capitalism as a whole doesn't work? The impression I got from his interview on Howard Stern was that he focused on certain aspects of capitalism which aren't in America's best interest and that too many resources are being wasted. I think the title is being taken too literally. There's a difference between trying to make money by writing/directing a film and buying billions in derivatives contracts ^^thank you, I don't have any plans on seeing this movie but that's the impression I get. People criticize the film and I can tell the only thing they know about it is the title has "capitalism" in it.

Thome K's on a 3-2 fastball, can't say how many times I"ve seen that.

So I did something incredibly boneheaded last night and deleted 450 GB of ripped DVDs from my network drive last night, because I was just trying to reset the password. Whoops. I didn't know it was going to reformat the damn thing... Now I have the username and password sitting next to it on a post-it.

Journalists attempting "balance" is annoying as hell. You don't need to try to call attention to some not-really-equivalent example from the other side from 2 years ago to justify your story.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 6, 2009 -> 01:25 AM) Dye catches most of what he can get to. Beyond that, his range is very limited. If you want to know what a good defensive OF looks like, all you have to do is compare the Sox over the years to the Twins over the years. Bunting and choppers haven't been the only reasons for the Twins kicking our asses in the Dome. I didn't realize Dye's defense wasn't what Hawk said it was until I went to a game in Baltimore in 2007 and saw Markakis play.
