  1. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:25 AM) Since when was anyone talking about the Monday night game that you had to come into the thread and bring your s*** opinion in? Tired of seeing all the s*** posts like this ragging on GB, we get the point, you don't think they are that good. I don't think the Bears are that good but I don't say jack s*** about them, no. What do you expect, Favre is the best player in the game and he is playing his former team. Anything beats watching ESPN hype the stupid Cowboys and their stadium, bit sick of hearing analysts talk about how good that team is and Jerry Jones and the gang. I think the Monday night game "might" be close, do I expect GB to win, no, but I would be stoked if they do, but I wasn't expecting them to win wk 1 or even lose wk 2. The game ultimately hinges on both teams offensive lines as they are not that great. Who knows, emotions can change the game, Favre I'm sure would like to beat GB and I'm sure GB would love to stick it to Favre. I hope you weren't serious about the bolded, but if you were - are you high?
  2. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 12:44 PM) I am totally with you. I'm the one who called McCain campaign suspension complete BS. It's a focus distraction. Why go? Seriously? Michelle did just fine. You're actually DISagreeing with me. lol.
  3. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 12:33 PM) I think he felt it would be over the top. Plus., there ARE more important issues to deal with. This is a non-sequitur. The President can be out of Washington for 1-2 days and the world won't fall apart. He also has dozens of delegates that are still going to be doing things for him whether he's there or not. And even if he's not physically there he still has the ability to communicate etc. Actually the more I think about reasons why this is irrelevant the more this particular criticism looks asinine.
  4. QUOTE (Nixon @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:42 AM) I think a lot of credit goes to Madrid's bid making this difficult rather than any deficiency in the American bid. You're just a homer for Spain.
  5. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:42 AM) Here's an idea, take that millions of dollars you were getting from private entities and do something productive... fix the damn school. This doesn't make any sense, the private donations are as good as gone.
  6. Take the political stuff (I really don't have to break down which is which do I?) to the Filibuster if you need to.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 07:09 PM) I used to love the Olympics when I was a kid. Now they really don't interest me much. The only thing that gives me any reason to hope that Chicago gets the games is the possibility of federal funds to fix things like public transportation which is really horrible right now. The way I see it though, even if the CTA received billions they would blow it and while the system might be alright when the Olympics came, it probably wouldn't be finished until days before the games started and weeks after they ended slow zones would reappear, half hour waits to get on to jammed trains would reappear and when politicians tell you there is very little chance taxpayers will foot the bill for anything, call me crazy, but I just know these games that mean so little to me would wind up costing me a pretty penny and I don't even intend to go to any events. In fact, the prices they are talking about pretty much take out most of the population. It's not really the CTA who's incompetent, they know the areas they need to improve, it's the state government.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 04:22 PM) Shut up, that's why.
  9. lol I read that and knew that 2K5 posted behind it and knew he was going to say that.
  10. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 10:44 AM) Anti-terrorism seems to be one of the few true growth industries. And a shining example of privatizing and outsourcing. Hey now, I'm employed by a private firm
  11. It's not cheating IMO but Mauer wasn't even trying to hide it.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 12:46 PM) He goes away if we all ignore him. This is the best way to get rid of idiots in the media. I have to disagree. Beck is about as mainstream as you can get now.
  13. I read somewhere that in advanced stages of dementia/Alzheimer's people start turning into assholes and they're really hard to be around because it starts taking over that part of the brain. Or something like that.
  14. Comprehensive health care reform is unpopular with the American people? I say damn, that first sentence didn't even come with a qualifier.
  15. So my wife's grandmother is gradually slipping into dementia and losing her mind. It's sad, but it's also kind of funny at the same time and I feel like a douche for having the urge to crack jokes. I noticed one day about a year ago I said hi to her and she had this confused look on her face like she was supposed to know who I was and couldn't figure it out. One of her daughters (Gloria) jokingly said "you've met him before don't you?" and she was like "I think I know him but..." and then we figured out she really couldn't remember so Gloria had to remind her that I was her granddaughter's husband. She remembered after that and she played it off. Since then though, she comes to my house and stuff and I tell her hello and stand near her like I'm about to give her a hug and she just stares at me blankly... I'm pretty sure she has no idea who I am anymore. That was kind of confirmed today when she asked Gloria (the daughter I was just talking about) about her son Trevis, asked how he was doing and suggested Gloria tell him to stop by. That would have been all well and good except Trevis died in 2005. She completely forgot that her grandson died 4 1/2 years ago.
  16. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 06:03 PM) Well, the NFL is exclusive to DirecTv, so there's no getting around that. But everything else is another company. Yeah and I really f***ing hate that.
  17. I really want to type "Stalin had the right idea with the purges, but they were horribly implemented, you just need to get rid of people that pollute society sometimes" but I can't bring myself to do it.
  18. Freddy Got Fingered was the only movie I ever thought about walking out on because it was so bad. I would've thought about that with Catwoman but I was staring at Halle Berry the whole time. I remember seeing Lost Souls with my then-girlfriend and I was like what the f*** am I watching?
  19. Freddy Got Fingered should be #1. I didn't see it on the list and I guess it was so bad that it got forgotten. Norbit also should be on this list.
  20. This material is borderline for this forum. Just a general warning/request, please don't get too carried away with politics. We're fine for now, since the topic involves politics to begin with, but any more detailed/heated arguments and I'll have to split posts and/or lock the thread. edit: NSS already covered it.
  21. Wow this is like the 18th trip around the circle.
  22. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 02:00 PM) "Iiffff Youuu (youuuu) likeee (likkeeee) yoouurrr (youuur) current (current) plannnnn (plannnn) youuuu (youuu) can (can) keeeeeep (keeep) ittt (ittt)." Please. HB3200 totally dismisses that - TECHNICALLY that's correct but everyone gets pushed over to the "public option" eventually and that is what pisses people off. And that's exactly what's going to get "reconciled". Again, and again, and again, the majority of people do not want GOVERNMENT providing the country health care. Reform? Hell yes. Government takeover? Hell no. Again. You assume that the slippery slope argument that you just laid out is not only accepted as incontrovertible fact by everyone, but is automatically in the back of their minds whenever the subject is brought up to them. You're somehow, kind of bizarrely actually, projecting your view onto everyone else. It doesn't work like that, when people look at a poll about a public option maybe 35% of people, tops, actually see "government healtchare, yes or no" and most of those people are the ones who would vote "no" to begin with.
  23. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 01:54 PM) I know people want reform. Duh. We've all said that. But where the line is... is the public "OPTION", which in reality, isn't an "OPTION" at all over time. That's where the polls turn pretty dramatically, and that has been and continues to be my point. That's why the town halls and all of that happened. My point is no more or no less. And BS, seriously, I don't watch Fox News. I think I've had it on a total of about two hours in the last two years. Maybe I should start. You are under the assumption that everyone knows/thinks this.
