Mauer pitch tipping

yeah, I saw it on deadspin first, it's still funny

Ha nice find. Happens all the time in baseball. ;)

Just drill him in the face next time at bat

The video claims they changed the signs, but when?

What's ridiculous is that it was so blatant, but, yeah, that's when you put one in his thigh.

Not too subtle. There will be blood

I think it'd be dangerous to do it this series, as even putting anyone on base is a threat that can keep the Twins alive. Maybe at this point, you are happy with just sending the Twins home for the playoffs; maybe you get them next April (or May, whenever they end up playing each other). I don't think you do anything about it today.

It's not cheating IMO but Mauer wasn't even trying to hide it.

Perhaps. I see a couple September call ups starting something with Twin regulars, which would be an awesome burn.

The uploader seemed confused. Blyleven was referring to Verlander trusting his catcher Laird when bouncing a curve with a runner on third.

I took that line of commentary as sarcasm in the video.

Sooo full of crap

Yeah right Twins, like this is so "ridiculous"..

The last thing they would do is admit it. That would make things 10 times worse.

then s*** would go down for sure

You would think that with a man on second the pitching team would immediately go to alternate signs.

They did but Mauer figured them out.

It says:

"On the first pitch watch the catcher put down 2 for a curveball."

I thought 2 was normally curveball, not alternate.

They change the signs after the first pitch.

If you watch Laird's fingers (even on the first pitch) he's not putting down the standard signs, he's trying to disguise them. Mauer either picked up or knew the pattern from previous experience if Laird and Verlander have stuck to a similar sequence.

That could be the secret to their late inning comebacks at home.

That; and adjusting the air vents all the time.

This might explain the shenanigans today (although I don't think Mauer was hit).
