  1. Are you talking about the pic with her pulling up her jeans and bouncing? edit: nevermind, that's the sig lol
  2. There is no "connection" between Von Burren and people who have Ron Paul bumper stickers (assuming that was a valid conclusion to draw, which in this case it is not). That's not what analysts do. Now if you look at a profile of a person and you see they have strong anti-government/anarchist rhetoric, they threaten violence, etc., and they have also a Ron Paul bumper sticker, that's when you start seeing a picture. You don't just look at someone with a bumper sticker and go "they're gonna go bomb a government building, I better go put surveillance on them."
  3. I think you guys are taking what knight is saying too literally here. He's not saying that a poster that does one or more of those things a couple of times will be banned. He's saying that if you're a poster that comes to this board and just dumps whatever garbage thoughts you have on your mind without bothering to try and be constructive (and you can be negative and constructive at the same time, and most posters do, there's nothing inherently wrong with being negative), then frankly, you're not really wanted. All that does is bring down the quality of the board, and nobody wants to read all that. And no, there is no particular poster being singled out here.
  4. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) Dye better not be in right for the 9th. Wise in... good move
  5. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 04:27 PM) Hell yes they do. Most have shell companies in Switzerland. Why? 12.5%, baby. There's a whole other side of this I'm not even going into. You already have before, at length
  6. This made me chuckle, a girl's father jokes that he hopes his daughter doesn't get in trouble for missing school to go with her father, who was going to ask President Obama a question at a town hall. So Obama writes a note to the girl's teacher.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 04:22 PM) The L.I.E. (I-495 Long Island Expressway) The Garden State (Garden State Parkway in NJ) The Quickway (I-86 in NY) The B.Q.E. (I-278 Brooklyn-Queens Expressway) The Thruway (NYS Thruway) The Cross Bronx (I-95 The Cross Bronx Expressway) I never refer to those highways by number and I rarely hear others do either Well yeah, like Balta was saying we do that in Chicago too. Down here in Maryland most of the highways are called by their number, although part of the reason for that is because a lot of people that live here aren't actually from here (like me). Actually they call an expressway/highway/freeway a "beltway" regardless of whether they're talking about 495 or 695. I dunno, just something I've always found odd.
  8. Canada's pretty far from the socialist hellhole that people like to say it is.
  9. QUOTE (Cubano @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 04:01 PM) Why do I have to pay for somebody consuming drugs in the street? Why do I have to pay for somebody that is sitting at home watching soap opera or Jerry Springer or Geraldo Rivera or Oprah? Why do I have to pay for somebody that keep having kids with 100 men to collect government handouts? Why do I have to pay for somebody that simply do not want to improve themselves? I can not wait for the elections again. With all the spending going on, inflation should pick up to high levels. Hopefully, voters will blame Obama. lol wut QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 04:02 PM) I'm going to use my favorite lostfan response here... lol wut?
  10. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) So what would you propose? Realistically, I could see an agreement between the two sides where the patent time is increased so the pharma companies can control it longer but there is a limit by the govt on how much the pharma companies can charge per pill/dose/prescription whatever. I have no idea about the legal implications of such a deal though. I was going to say something like that but you already did. Increase the time the patent is valid so they don't need to raise prices as much (unless someone tells me that's a bad idea), and somehow de-incentivize cost increases through regulations or whatever. Honestly though, I'm not familiar enough with the industry to write anything in-depth, I'm just a semi-educated casual observer to it all.
  11. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 03:48 PM) Well, their big profits come in those short periods of time that they can sell their drugs under patent, so they basically are forced to sell them at such a high price. They need to get as much money as possible in that time so they can accumulate a nice amount for new drugs, and obviously they are making nice money at the same time but thats what a business does. I'm not saying that the motive for profit in and of itself is a bad thing, because when you run a business that's what you do. I'm saying that in this particular case I'm all for tighter regulation and more government involvement than I would normally be because it's a different situation.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) Because that's their name. In the Chicago area, the highways all have other names other than the number that they're given; the Borman, the Ike, The Dan Ryan, the Stevenson, etc. Out here, the highways all have names, but like each 2 mile stretch is named for a police officer who was killed or something like that; there's no single name for a whole stretch of road other than the number. But, for example, I-57 has no name, but it's just called "57." Same thing with 95 and all of the spurs off it (295, 395, 495, 695 etc.). Those all have something resembling a name, but people call them by their number. Only on the West Coast do they do that.
  13. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) Theyre still a business that is trying to make as much profit as possible, you take that away you threaten to take away their resources to reinvest into R&D, and then everybody hurts because less advancements in medicine are made. I'm not really buying it... unless the entire industry was taken over and run as a government agency and not for profit (which isn't going to happen), they will still get their profits. They just won't be able to gouge and contribute to exploding costs like they do now. If I had my way, anyway.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 03:30 PM) California is the same way. I can walk through the hills and say "These houses are going to burn down within 20 years" and those areas still get built up. There's a wonderful place right next to the San Andreas on the 14 where there is a whole hillslope that has been covered with new houses over the past 6 years, and a few places just down the slope where there are about 5 McMansions sitting right next to a man-made lake...which is there originally because of the fault. Every time you see people complaining about their houses burning down out here, you should remember how easy it would have been to keep houses from being built in the really, really guaranteed to burn areas in the foothills...or at least how many steps there now are to fireproof houses in those areas. Why do people on the West Coast say "the" before highways? e.g. the 5, the 101. I tried asking people this and they didn't even notice what I was talking about.
  15. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) Doesnt sound crazy to me, sounds like a business trying to keep profits high and keep the return coming on their investment. That's really part of the problem IMO. The fact that money is the bottom line. We're not talking about a flavor of soft drink, or a Blu-Ray player, or a website, we're talking about people's health. And furthermore, the consumer base doesn't have any kind of control over it because they can't see it, so I don't even really think the free market/laissez-faire argument is that valid anyway. They shouldn't be allowed to just extract profits from us because they want to, and because they can.
  16. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 02:07 PM) Joe Morgan just shook his fist in rage. I always thought Morgan disparaging relatively simple stuff like OPS and the modern emphasis on OBP was so ironic, because virtually all of the newer ways of looking at the game make him look like an even better player.
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) Moving past the pros and cons debate over universal healthcare. Can the argument be made that it is really something we should be prioritizing on now? Are you saying it should or shouldn't be? I say it should, because if some kind of reform doesn't happen, it'll be pushed off another decade or so at least. And if for no other reason, than because of the fact that the costs are spinning out of control and it's killing our long-term budget.
  18. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 01:42 PM) I know, but I'm just saying how insanely idiotic it is to blame anyone in the media for the actions of nut jobs. Ok, fair point.
  19. Nice, kap, you weren't as far away from my (admittedly not very firm) stance as I thought.
  20. kap, you seem to be acknowledging that the current system is broken and something needs to be done, and I'm guessing you're just opposing the idea of the government running it or extending healthcare to uninsured. What are you proposing be done?
  21. I just finished up the Pitt expansion for Fallout 3. Much, much better than Operation Anchorage.
  22. FWIW, it's not summer yet.
  23. That wasn't right-wing extremism, that was just some jackass that got pissed off and decided killing people was a good way to blow off steam.
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 09:05 AM) Behind the scenes, Thome is a big player in the Chinese sex trade. I'm sure Thome would be like the nicest pimp ever though.
  25. You know, I was wondering something and I figured Balta would be able to answer this - doesn't water expand when it freezes? Wouldn't that mean if it melted, the overall volume decreased? How does that work?
