QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 11:28 PM) what's the point of it? Does it get you high? No, it's just like puffing on thick flavored air if the coal is the right temperature. It's a social thing, it's really cool to just BS around while you pass the hose around and take turns, it's not the same if you don't have at least 3 people to do it with.

I know I'm not the only one on here who likes doing this - matter of fact, I'm buying one right now. For those who have not done it, it's not at all what it looks like (a bong, basically). The smoke that comes out is clean and smooth, doesn't feel like cigarette smoke or anything like that. I used to have one when I was in Iraq, it only cost me about 25 bucks back then, but there used to be a rule against "drug paraphernalia" going thru customs. So I gave mine away before I left only to find out that they'd changed the rules, so I got rid of it for nothing. Here they are more like 80-110 dollars. Shopping in s***ty economies with US dollars > shopping in the US.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 11:07 PM) I'm coming in late reading this and my first thought was this is a solution looking for a problem. But, there wound up being some good posts in here. Overall, they are separate, but everything is intertwined. I remember hoping Fields would be the next Robin, now I'm wishing he could be a healthy Crede. Only because we derailed it

If Nix could be like Juan Uribe before he turned into the Tasmanian Devil in 2006 (Gold Glove-caliber middle infielder, average in the .250s, OPS in the .700s) I'd like him a whole lot hitting 8th or 9th.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 10:21 PM) This is nuts..Jayson Nix is batting .203 this season. He's not good, but people are acting like we discovered this amazing player. I didn't realize his sample size was so small though. 60-something sporadic PAs this year, before that, 65 PAs last year. He's been up and down in the minors, especially at Tulsa for some reason, but he's never been given that much of a shot in the majors either.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 10:06 PM) They would be good if they just completely overhauled their system. Completely start from scratch. I hope TBS loses baseball coverage as well and MLB getting more organized with it's games, it's just too confusing. You got Fox Saturday Baseball, ESPN Sunday Night Baseball, MLB Network Thursday Night Baseball, TBS Sunday Afternoon Baseball... and then you got all the local channels. Way too confusing. Hopefully by next year MLBN will be available to more homes and they get a more organized schedule going. I'm really resentful of the fact that they have even dumber blackout rules than MLB does. Totally self-serving, and usually makes it virtually impossible for me to catch a Sox game simply because of where I live unless they happen to not be carrying a Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, or Braves game (which is basically never). If they at least would let me watch the games on MLB.tv I'd probably be more forgiving.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 10:07 PM) If Alexei is not moving from SS, we're best off if Josh Fields is our 3B, and Gordon Beckham is our 2B until Gordon proves he can't handle the job. I love Getz as much as the next guy, but I've always thought of him as a middle infielder off the bench. Right, exactly correct... really some of the posts in this thread are just way off-base, as is the entire premise of the thread. Getz was never intended to be the long-term answer at 2B for this team so I honestly don't know what the hell people are talking about. It's like everybody forgot this sequence of events, even though it was only 2-3 months ago: -The season started with an open competition at 2B -Beckham was basically deemed not ready -The competition was between Getz and Nix in ST, and it was pretty close, until: -Nix got hurt in ST and sent to the DL. Getz looked good at the plate and in the field in ST and was given the job. Of course, now, Nix is back, and Beckham has since been called up (for whatever reason). The situation itself about players hasn't changed.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 08:23 PM) Fox needs to quit doing baseball broadcasts altogether though. Most of them are terrible. fixed for what I wanted to see

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 09:50 PM) Totally agree. Seems most of us want Leo Getz to be better than he actually is. This loyalty that we show him isn't unfounded, but it is way overdone. I like Nix as well...wtf where are all these guys gonna play Loyalty? He's been playing in the major leagues for over two months, man. Two months. Barely 150 PAs. Cmon now.

What's the point of this thread? Seriously, because I can't see it? There is no comparison between Josh Fields and Chris Getz. Meaning, they play 2 different positions, and their fates aren't intertwined. If Josh Fields sinks, it will be because he and only he failed when given the opportunity. And I really doubt Beckham is going to be at 3B forever, especially if Fields steps up and keeps his job. Nobody, to my knowledge, ever thought of Getz as a high-ceiling player, maybe at the most a solid starter until Beckham got called up. Fields on the other hand has been the 3B of the future for a while, and they need for him to perform.

QUOTE (Cubano @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 12:48 AM) This Thread must be a joke. You have to give him the benefit of the doubt. He is young and proved in the minors. This does not mean he will succeed, but he earned the right to play as many games as Fields and all other bombs the Chi Sox have. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 02:12 PM) This is correct plus tell me someone on the Sox over these last two games that hasn't been as bad or worse? Beckham will get ythat 1st major league hit today is my guess and hope as I have him as my PTC. ..you guys are killing me.

QUOTE (NIUSox @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 03:51 AM) So my dog got out of my yard this morning and ran away. I hope at least if I never get to see him again, that he finds a new home cause he definitely wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed. I don't think he would last very long on his own. Hopefully, he turns up or someone finds him and turns him in. I really haven't been too bad today until I think of him on his own alone out there. When I was little we had a dog that used to run off a lot, and she definitely wasn't that bright... she always came back later in the day or the next day though.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 02:34 AM) I like Beck. He really dislikes both sides, and he has done some good work with showing how big of a scam acorn is. He's over the top a lot, and quite crazy, but he's a true conservative, and he doesn't play the fence like O'Reilly does a lot. O'Reilly doesn't really play the fence, that's just who he is. He gets thrown into the same sentence as Hannity and Limbaugh a lot but that's not really accurate or fair to him.

Cubano you wanted Viciedo to be on the team instead of Betemit (or something like that) and I think we see now how bad an idea that would've been. Also people (me included) weren't really defending Betemit himself, just the ridiculousness of the idea that he somehow wouldn't be on the team coming out of ST after he was just traded for. I don't think anyone saw him hitting .200 either though so that didn't help. If he hits better, he's probably still on this team, s*** glove or not. That didn't happen, and he was one of the worst fielders this team's seen in a while, so bye-bye.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 09:46 PM) I can understand why some people might not mind abortion, but why does anyone support late term abortion (if the child and mother aren't in serious risk). It's sickening how all the far left media is making Tiller into some type or martyr, while they avoid reporting about the asshole islamic terrorist who killed an army recruiter (and if they do report it, they'll forget to mention he's black and a muslim terrorist). I mean, I'm sorry Tiller got assassinated and in all of places in a church with probably his friends and family, but this guy was a bum who would kill any baby for 5 grand, and he deserved to be in jail. And now the media is blaming Fox News and talk radio for Tiller's death? What crap. Fine, conservatives are to blame for Tiller's death. But that means NBC and far left media is to blame for the Army Recruiters death. Yeah, I really don't get this one either. I mean, even Fox isn't talking about it, WTF?

I concur with the statement that Sonic is average.

You guys think Beckham is hearing the footsteps of Keith Ginter or Eider Torres? Or whoever the middle infielders for Charlotte are.

FWIW, Adam Jones had a poor K rate in MLB last year, and in the minors had about a 1:3 BB:K rate while Danks's is about 1:2.

Derrick Rose's High School Grades Were Altered
lostfan replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 09:20 AM) Publicly or via his "people"? I haven't seen him say anything to reporters yet. Unless, he comes out and publicly denies it, I know he is lying even though he probably is lying anyway. wtf dude, who cares. This is kinda ridiculous logic. -
I spelled my professor's name wrong on a paper I just turned in and he took a point off. Ugh I hate when I do that.

lol, I so wanted to see a thread like this.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) That's ok, I guess. But, it's pathetic how PC our country has gotten. Could he just end a policy speech over here with a Bible verse? No. It might offend someone. Well, I mean the topic was on American-Muslim relations and Israel is a big part of that. He was talking about shared values, in that case peace etc.
-
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) Sorry - didn't mean to lead you down the wrong path. I posted this yesterday before the speech today. What he said today wasn't what I was trying to point out. Well, in that case, I suck.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 04:08 PM) It's really cool how he can actually use Koranic verses in an overseas policy speech, but yet, if anyone does that over here with regards to the Bible, they are outrightly dismissed as a "right wing lunatic" (read: liberal version of "evangelical") ... and it's funny how he can paraphrase the Bible in speeches over here, but he better not quote it, because some people might get offended. As a note: I don't care that he used Koranic verses, just pointing out the hypocritical elements of our friendly liberals in this country. He ended the speech with quotes from the Koran, Torah, and the Bible FWIW.
