  1. For some reason I keep thinking this thread says "When Thome goes to Hell."
  2. BearSox, The US media had nothing do do with his radicalization. You know he went overseas right? (not going to go into too much more detail than this, though.)
  3. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 06:23 PM) Bachmann is a psycho, i'm sure she owes millions of people an apology. the demands for apologies didn't seem directed at Michele Bachmann. and if she did apologize, it would probably just offend everyone again as i'm sure she would toss in a few more insults. Honestly though reading/listening to s*** Bachmann says is hilarious so I don't really mind anything she says.
  4. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 06:19 PM) i'm just saying that the criticism was legit IMO. if i am head of a department, and something like that report comes out , i would expect to take heat and apologize. which she basically did. i mean it's water under the bridge now, i don't see how this murderer means people whom critized that her and the report should apologize. again, no one would have said anythign if it said 'neo-nazi' threat. we even both agree it was dumb to have in there. Ok, I can get with that because yeah, someone within DHS f***ed up somewhere. It wasn't Napolitano but when you're the manager of an organization you have to be the one to take the heat, so she did. But if I'm her I'm finding the director of that section and reaming out their asshole for making me have to take the heat... so that they can find the subordinate below them that was responsible for quality control and in turn ream them out. I'm just saying, this outrage was strictly politics (I guess I shouldn't be so surprised, I just take it personally when I see politicians criticizing analysts or trying to throw them under the bus to make themselves look good) whereas on the DHS end it wasn't politics, just incompetence.
  5. Your point being... that, what... Bachmann's outrage was not phony and made her look dumb as s*** (well, more than usual)?
  6. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 06:12 PM) you sure about that, lostfan? http://www.dailypress.com/news/dp-local_wr...0,7603283.story I said "usually" and yes, Farrakhan and those types do it too.
  7. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 06:05 PM) how is that Ron Paul bumper stick free trade goofs? it's not. how is that vets? it's not. the report was rightly criticized and she apologized. now you guys think you have some 'win' here with this terrible tragedy. this is a win for no one, an innocent person died. Quit putting words in my mouth, I'm not gonna acknowledge responses to things I didn't say. I don't know what you're talking about with this "you guys" stuff either.
  8. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 06:02 PM) the report was cricized for it's specific finger pointing at vets and people with Ron Paul bumper stickers. no one would care if it was a 'neo-nazi' report. no one owes her an apology, and she won't get one. That's the fault of the person responsible for editing the report, because that's not how it was supposed to read. Any generic report you see on right-wing extremism will say something like that but it'll sound more politically correct to avoid this kind of fake brouhaha. That wasn't supposed to be the focus of it, the fact remains that nothing about that section was untrue from an analyst's perspective (that's who it was written for, I've no idea why in the f*** something marked FOUO got released to the media but it happens all the time). Putting the shoe on the other foot, did any left-wing politician flip a s*** when the DHS under Bush released a report on left-wing extremism that "singled out" environmental/animal rights activists or antiwar protesters? No, they did not. And no, they should not have because there was nothing to flip out about.
  9. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 05:57 PM) uh thats more of a far left conspiracy theory. Iran supporter type stuff. No, not even close. But you are right though, the holocaust deniers (in this country, usually white supremacists) are welcome in Iran, they go there for holocaust denial conferences etc.
  10. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 05:53 PM) Iraq war vets and people in the military, the newest members of the terror watch list, are actually targets of terrorism in the US. not the other way around. why would she get an apoology? because a nationalist socialist killed someone? Well, first off "national socialists" = "right wing extremists" = the topic of that report. It's pretty much common knowledge that right wing extremists try to recruit vets, that report didn't even say anything new. The DHS was doing its job. FFS, this is what *I* do at work, at least part of it and on a different scale/problem set. Outlining threats within the homeland, etc. Bachmann and those like her used that as a political opportunity to manufacture outrage over basically nothing, to kill 2 birds with one stone; on one hand to make the Obama administration look malicious and evil, and on the other, to make themselves look like victims. Actually Bachmann is dumb enough to actually believe what she's saying. But regardless, yes, she and the rest of them do owe Napolitano an apology. Not because, you know, there were actual incidents of violence from actual right-wing extremists after that report was published (let's go ahead and add the guy who shot the cops in Pittsburgh to that list) - but for just being dumb enough to actually insinuate there was some kind of conspiracy against them. And believe it.
  11. I think he is handling Getz fine, lately I think Nix playing has more to do with Ozzie feeling Nix should get more playing time than it has anything to do with taking at-bats away from Getz. I don't mind it so much, Nix is fantastic in the field and fun to watch, I just wish he could hit. He's never been given a legit shot in the show. I don't know why some fans are turning on Getz all of a sudden though. That's pretty annoying too, IMO. Getz isn't the 2B of the future and never was supposed to be.
  12. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 05:26 PM) f*** you guys. This is stupid. In all actuality, I love that on this website we can debate each other on almost anything and any post should be subjected to everyone else's opinion. It's really difficult to debate, "f*** Wise.", though. (but who would want to?) Actually... my opinion on that... up until recently it felt like people were arguing with me about that for no reason, trying to force me to like him and accept that he is and should be in the everyday lineup, making me have to talk about it all the time and making it seem like I dislike him more than I actually do. Anderson arguments go the same way, people who can't stand Anderson jump on people who do like him (and vice versa), making them have to justify why they feel that way, and seem like they like Anderson more than they actually do. Personally, I think Anderson is a better player than Wise and I'm not going to be convinced otherwise, but I don't like Anderson much more than I like Wise... I still want a new CF just like everyone else. I've tried to stop talking about it and I wish other people would too. Lay off the hyperbole, strawmen, and putting of words into others' mouths, and these arguments might be more tolerable. And Joe Crede... oh my f***ing god, Joe Crede, he doesn't play for the Sox anymore.
  13. I just... don't want anybody, least of all the coaches, to be impatient with Poreda if he struggles or hits bumps. Anyone remember the line at the end of Bull Durham where Crash tells Nuke that the hitters in the Show are gonna light him up like a pinball machine at first, and not to let it bother him, keep doing what he's doing? That's what I want to see out of Poreda... except... he needs full support from the team, too. Normally Ozzie is great about that, especially with pitchers (actually only with pitchers, what he does with position players is debatable). Whatever he was trying to say with that quote didn't come off that way IMO.
  14. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 05:03 PM) it was me, no shame here, ill admit i get perhaps way too frustrated when we play poorly or guys arent playing well Oh, I wasn't trying to put you on the spot, that particular post just made me do a double take. I was like, Buehrle? Of all players?
  15. This guy seems like he's pretty raw, I don't think from looking at his scouting report and numbers that he will ever develop any significant power, but I suppose if he could slug around .400, he'd be a decent leadoff hitting prospect. Seems that as of right now, undeveloped, he is a straight up speed/defense player.
  16. QUOTE (qwerty @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) Intellectually soxtalk has gone way downhill. I want to voice my opinion, but to be frank, practically everything i read currently is garbage. I find no point in taking my time to voice my opinion just to have it skipped over because people would rather b**** and moan due to their personal lives sucking. Well guess what? So does mine. I'm personally not gonna take it out on hundreds of random people, because i have enough sense to know they could care less. You should too. I'm not sure if soxtalk will ever recover, which pisses me off like no other. Soxtalk is not my homepage because i hate it, just some of the people that reside here. I didn't leave for as long as i did because i wanted to be gone, i was forced. Since I'm relatively new here (didn't start posting until the offseason before this one), having you pop up is like having a great poster appear out of nowhere.
  17. I can't believe I actually saw somebody say "f*** Buehrle" yesterday. I don't remember who it was and I'm not going to look it up so I can dime them out, but come on. There's too many posts like that lately, it's pretty embarrassing.
  18. You go to the emergency room but you still are responsible for the medical bills. You don't die, but it still sucks to be you.
  19. I thought Letterman was a Republican? Not that that matters, still a really douchy thing to do/say.
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) Spiderman, you should cite your source. ^^ Thanks BigSqwert, I didn't notice. This isn't a Soxtalk rules thing, it's a legal and ethics thing. Same basic reason you have to cite sources in papers for school.
  21. QUOTE (rangercal @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) how so? This thread is about politicians we like. Not necessarily who we vote for. Just an observation, all of those guys are very, very far apart from each other politically. I happen to like all of them too.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 03:25 PM) But there is a theme there nonetheless - those are guys are or were very honest and upfront about their beliefs and policies. agreed. Oh, and I'm not sure if he really counts as a politician, but I love Bob Gates to death.
  23. QUOTE (rangercal @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 03:08 PM) Barry Goldwater Ron Paul Jesse Ventura Dennis Kucinich All over the spectrum with that.
  24. QUOTE (SI1020 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 03:07 PM) You're absolutely right. That was a shoot from the hip statement to make, and you shouldn't do that. Although I posted here when this place was just soxnet.net (man do I miss those days) I have had long absences in the interim. We do have posters in this forum who rant and lecture but we have people who actually do come here to learn things too.
