We need to help Obama control us. The more control he has, the more effective he is at governing. That should about cover it.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 4, 2009 -> 06:17 PM) I completely understand what I said when I quoted Mr. Obama. And so do a lot of other people. That's why it's a problem. I was talking about the guy in the story, not you. Let me help out with your next post though: Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear fear panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic panic Should help you out for a couple of pages.

I wonder if he realizes how far he contradicted himself? To the point where he actually helps the other side?

You know Eli was pretty much flawless in the playoffs though right?

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 08:51 PM) I have my doubts that Flacco and Rodgers are franchise QBs. Eh, IMO they are until it becomes clear they aren't. Ravens fans (I live here) are out of their minds with love for him though.
-
Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Phillip Rivers, Aaron Rodgers, Tony Romo, those guys are franchise QBs. Someone you are pretty sure that year in and year out is going to lead your offense, and you're not thinking about acquiring someone else. Cutler is definitely in that group. We're not necessarily talking about Hall of Famers.
-
I saw someone say elsewhere that they are unhappy the Bears rolled the dice for a franchise QB and that they should've shored up the defense instead because "that's Bears football." Ugh. No. Is it any coincidence that the year the Bears won the Super Bowl, they had consistent quality QB play, even though they had much of the same D land solid running game ater on? I think not.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 06:26 PM) I'm not going off of that. In fact, I haven't really gone with that theory too much after Angelo was hired. Heck, he went out and got Mushin out of nowhere. I did not they would get Cutler though just in terms of packages. The reason I say I don't think they'll get anyone outside of the draft is because, the draft is loaded with WR's. Iglesias would look mighty nice next to Cutler. Heck, the WR from UNC(not Nicks, the other starter who injured his knee) would look great too. The thing is, I don't think those are guys who are instant impact guys. Also, from the guys that are available, Boldin wants to go to a contender which the Bears seem to be if they got him. Problem with him, is I don't think the Bears want to give up everything else they have after getting Cutler. What else could they give up? Briggs is too valuable and the Cardinals secondary is much better than the Bears. I guess we could give up Urlacher and our 3rd, I just don't know if Angelo would do that because it opens up a hole at MLB with one less pick to address that. I don't see Angelo taking a risk on Plaxico for all the reasons he wouldn't with TO. He doesn't want a distraction. I don't see them getting Holt as it seems he isn't interested in the Bears. Marvin wouldn't make much of an impact. Fair enough, I agree with most of what you say here. I think Jamar Williams would do a decent job replacing Briggs though.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 05:59 PM) FWIW, I don't believe the Bears will sign anyone who's an improvement this year. It's draft or bust for this team. I also think people are expecting too much of Earl Bennett because of Cutler. I don't really know what you're basing this on unless you think nobody else is going to be available and/or they don't have the resources (they have plenty of cap room). The "Angelo never makes moves" thing, which was never true to begin with, kinda got blown out of the water yesterday.

QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 06:02 PM) Yes. Hub's great to listen to. Outstanding football resource. He's editor of Pro Football Weekly and a very bright/objective guy who knows alot of NFL inside scoop, not just the Bears. One problem... when he starts talking about baseball it's like his IQ drops 50 points. But he's brilliant when it comes to football. IIRC Hub isn't even a Bears fan so he doesn't feed you the company line, he'll tell it like it is.

TRU, for the record, I get what you're saying about the trade.

QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 05:05 PM) It didn't seem to hurt Wes Welkers performance. He's a completely different type of WR. This is borderline off-topic, but IMO Welker is one of the main reasons both Brady and Cassel had so much success, but he doesn't get enough credit. You can't rush through that line, cover Moss, and account for Welker all at the same time.
-
QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) I haven't backtracked at all, I still feel Denver won the trade. That doesn't change the fact that the picks they select can bust out while Cutler succeeds in Chicago. I don't think that is going to happen, but for argument sake I had to present that side of it so people don't think im just trying to hate on this deal. Matt Cassel hadn't started a game since high school and looked like a star in McDaniels system. And I don't want to hear about Randy Moss because he didn't even have that great of a year anyways. I agree with you that the jury is still out on him, but you cant ignore the fact that his system so far has given results. Well he also had a downgraded QB throwing to him.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 03:31 PM) After Tank Johnson, there is no way Angelo signs Matt Jones. No way. Some other team my give him another chance, but Jerry isn't going to take the chance to get burned again like that. I dunno, Angelo drafted Marcus Harrison when he fell to him last year.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) They were already allowed to. It was about the right to marry whom (trying to recall The Office debate about when to use who/whom) It sounds really simple when it's explained like this, but if the pronoun who/whom is referring to ends in "m" (him, them, so also her) then you use whom. To whom does this car belong? Him. Who is coming with us? He. -
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 01:46 PM) They want Roy Williams compensation for tradin Boldin. If he's dealy, my guess is he's off to Philly because they have a lot of early picks. And Holt didn't sound that excited about going to Chicago by the recent talk from his agent FWIW. Before or after yesterday's news?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 01:37 PM) I know I for one intend to continue using jokes related to corn. Or as the Native Americans call it, maize. Your corn jokes actually f*** up my plan. Virtually none of these merry-go-round arguments have jokes about people f***ing corn. I'm going to need to factor this in somewhere. -

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 11:11 AM) Actually, this is something interesting I've observed that only Americans seem to do and think is normal. In every other country (in my experience), the rich/middle class live in the city and the poor live in the sub-urban areas. I guess Americans never stopped and wondered why...oh, that's right, maybe because it's much easier on the work/life balance to LIVE NEAR YOUR f***ING JOB than it is to drive all day and be stuck in traffic which undoubtedly increases your stress level. And why do we do it? More house for the money! Yes, enjoy that more house for the money you're never at because you're in a traffic jam driving home. Urban sprawl is definitely an American thing. In Europe, the reason their social system works so much better is because their cities and towns are built around a center where people live, work, and shop together. So it's easier for them to get around, and mass transportation is much more logical. Here, once the industrial era hit, we just started building out farther and farther and sort of haphazardly.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 10:58 AM) Yes, because they realized how stupid they were being. Driving 2 hours each way, spending time/gas money and having the new found necessity of owning a working car 365 days a year didn't add up to anything but less time with your family/loved ones and more expenses for a bigger home which you were never at. lol. Exactly. Commuting is a b****.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) That writer apparently never left the year 1985. The urban flight stopped in the 80's, the city has been growing since then, and in fact the city has undergone one of the great urban renewals in recent history. His entire lead in is garbage. Regardless of the Olympics point, this guy really is clueless as to reality. Right, my thoughts exactly. The population trend is the exact reverse of what he says, people are moving back INTO the city, not out.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 12:56 AM) That's basically the card the pro "Give them whatever they want for Cutler" guys played from day one. lol. But it was irrelevant then and even more so now. Like you, I will not back down from my original stance. You don't just give up anything for anybody. I don't care who it is. Now, as far as the trade goes, I am absolutely thrilled. Much props to Jerry Angelo and co for going out there and seizing an opportunity that rarely ever comes along. We've, at least for the next three years, solved this franchise's most glaring hole since, well, forever. Is this a risk-free trade? I don't think so. Two first rounders and a third rounder is a steep price to pay. Can we get Jay the weapons that he and any star QB would need to be the best they can be? Nobody knows yet. Cutler is immensely talented. Nobody argues that. But look at what this guy had around him in Denver. He doesn't have anything remotely close to that in Chicago. But Jerry Angelo has definitely earned the benefit of the doubt for now. Right. Never once was I against trading for Cutler, nor was I against paying a large price tag to do so, in fact I wanted Angelo to do it. You want a 25-year old Pro Bowl QB, then you have to be prepared to roll the dice, they don't just fall out of the sky. I just saw people throwing out self-defeating epic fail-caliber proposals and I couldn't help but to facepalm. You don't do that. Just no. As it is, Angelo gave up a lot of value to get a lot of value, but he still has plenty of picks to work with.
