Seriously though, A.J.? If his contract is bad, Konerko's is horrible.

QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 08:54 PM) That brunette in their used to get me horny....but I think I was like 13 at the time so anything got me horny then. Jasmine from Aladdin.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 08:49 PM) I knew exactly what you were talking about before I even entered. However, you made a typo. You accidentally put worst instead of best. It's so horrible that it's just f***ing glorious.

QUOTE (thedoctor @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 07:27 PM) good article. And it's nice to see an ESPN article going into that kind of depth that isn't wildly inaccurate or missing a major point.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) Wow, they have no one under 69 wins. That is impossible. But there's a difference between actual projections, and setting numbers to get people to bet on them. edit: lol u said 69.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) lostfan can probably tell me how accurate this is, but my understanding is these AQ guys cant make a cell phone call without a bunker buster getting crammed 3 feet up their ass. lol. Assuming they were communicating by phone yeah.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 01:56 PM) You're making a point that we all understand but that, thankfully, for some reason they don't seem to get it. They haven't gotten it yet and hopefully they still won't. This, and that their behavior and their messages have been consistent for a few years. Why that hasn't changed, I don't know.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 11:58 AM) Think about Israel during the various intifada's. Or Iraq or Afghanistan. The pinprick attacks might not do anything near the damage that a big event does, but they are a highly effective strategy if they're deployed. Really, think about it, if you wanted to wage a long campaign of terror by say, taking bombs and dumping them in trashcans in public places like shopping centers or stadiums, what would stop you at this point? Or buying a heavy machine gun and opening up on a crowd? The thing that has always struck me as odd about Al Qaeda is that despite the obviousness of that strategy, they haven't tried anything small scale. That leaves 2 possibilities, either the U.S. has gotten ridiculously good at intercepting these guys, even the individual ones, on the way in, which frankly I don't believe given all the other people who are able to enter this country and maneuver around weaponry, or otherwise, Small Attacks just don't fit in with their belief structure. I think it's the latter. They're an apocalyptic group that believes the U.S. is going to collapse under its own weight of opposition to God and its decadence. They just aren't interested in waging an actual campaign of hurting people or hurting the economy, they want the singular event, gigantic, huge strikes because that is what they believe in. At least up until the present, that's been correct. Well that and along with the fact that they've been focused on overseas too. They don't like to settle for either half-assed plans, or smaller attacks, they want their attacks to be large and devastating.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 11:45 AM) It could be anyone of a million things, but I think the central theme that would be most effective would be something that centered around commerce. I could see a Mumbai style attack on shopping malls, or banks, or something being cheap, easy, and deadly effective. Now, how would the logistics for such an attack work? Would a minor, down and dirty attack really be a deathblow? If not, does it help strategically? Not saying it wouldn't work or anything, just throwing out ideas.

Just to add something to the discussion, al-Qaida is to Islamic militancy as the KKK is to white supremacists. That is to say, it's only one organization out of many different types, even if it's the most well-known.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 11:36 AM) I think the U.S. has really done a good job disrupting AQ organizations here. I give W some credit for this (dems spare me the rage, admit when things go right for once). But I agree, now would be the prefect time for them to attack. Yeah just because they haven't done anything doesn't mean they don't want to or haven't been trying. They've been failing.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 11:23 AM) Wouldn't it makes sense to alter those plans a bit to try and strike a death blow while your enemy is prone? Depends. How do you define death blow in this circumstance? Some kind of Mumbai-style guerrilla attack?
-
You know though, it's not that they're unaware or whatever, they're just not in the business of rushing plans.

It's really kind of a stretch to say the falling oil prices have had the effect of a major tax cut. That is based on the assumption that the sudden spike and historic high of prices in 2008 wasn't hurting people.

Wilson "the colander" Betemit, Owens and other thoughts

QUOTE (Cubano @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) I can not watch Contreras pitch when he throw 200 pitches in 5 innings. I am new to this forum and last year he was out. That is why you have not read anything from me about it. For Contreras to throw 200 pitches that's what, 4 hours? Jose works soooooooo sloowwwwwww. -
So who else is worried about Bobby's velocity this spring?

Damn Steele, nut up, don't be such a b****.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 09:59 AM) I wasn't meaning to attack any mods, and I didn't mean politics had anything to do with it. I just meant that sometimes things are OK to say and sometimes they get a warning, so it's not always clear to everybody what is acceptable. You used to not be able to call something "gay" and now apparantly you can. Not that I am offended by it, it is just an example of an inconsistancy. Fair enough. Honestly you have every right to call out mods or admins if you feel like you need to. If I'm doing something wrong I want to know.

Oh, that would suck so much. Long contracts for pitchers are a bad idea... even for Johan Santana.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 09:56 PM) Also, for the record, I didn't think Duke's post was directed at Don. I thought it was a generalized comment. I thought so too and I was waiting for him to say otherwise.
-
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 09:03 PM) Lostfan, his comment may be directed to just what he saw in this thread. Duke pretty much up and calls SouthsideDon a racist, and yet Don is the one that gets called out. Now you and I know that Duke has been called out before, but maybe Don doesn't, and if someone was just looking at this thread, it would looklike NSS was only calling out one poster. You may have a point, but I personally was going to let that play out. I feel like things like that are handled at the lowest level between posters and if I see signs that it might escalate, I say something. In this case, it's come and gone (Duke really hasn't dug in on his first comment, the poster defended his position, there hasn't been any real argument).

I'll be more concerned with Betemit if it's 3 weeks into March and he's still doing it. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 06:44 PM) Read earlier this week that last year the head of the ATF said that something like 80-90% of the guns being used in that drug war were coming across the border the other way. Yeah, I read the same.
-
QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 06:22 PM) Goes to show how desperate the situation is there. Pretty soon you'll be hearing about people killing their familes and themselves, oh, wait. The drug cartel violence down there is unreal.
