QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 10:18 AM) Yes we do. It was that 15 minutes where it was about 60 degrees... you know right before it got windy, started raining, the cold front moved in and we got a foot of snow. So then I guess fall is the time when the leaves on the trees are still red/orange/yellow and there's also a foot of snow?

Was the 2008 NBA Draft rigged to favor Chicago?

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 05:15 PM) well, whatever, we f***in deserved for all those years we were far and away the worst, most untalented team in the league and continued to lose the top pick. Then, the one year we do marginally good, is the year we lose out on james, melo and wade. SO yeah, I think we f***in deserved rose. We had the top pick when krause drafted Brand, FWIW. -
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 09:32 AM) Don't assassinate my loving thread!#$@! This is supposed to be a lovefest! My first time living in Maryland in April I went to work one morning, stepped outside of my apartment, it was a nice cool morning, and I had cherry blossoms in my front yard. I was like WTF is going on? It's still supposed to be cold and raining, and this is an odd temperature, it's supposed to suddenly get hot next week.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 08:03 AM) Not all mechanics are bad, but there's a good reason I do 99% of my own work. Labor rates of $80/ hr+ are no fun. True, but it's a pretty healthy percentage, and it's enough to make me wonder if the one I'm talking to is a liar or not which is unfortunate. I can count on one hand the number of mechanics I've met that are 100% honest without a doubt. If there's something I can just charge a friend to do, like replacing an alternator, I'll do that instead as opposed to risking going to a mechanic who will tell me that my battery, starter, and fan belt are all also broken, and he'll have to do some wiring and charge me 650 bucks or some s***.

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 08:46 PM) For all the Broadway haters out that that dislike the guy specifically for his '08 MLB campaign consider this, If you take out his one truly bad outing on Aug 27 (which was a relief outing in which the Sox were already losing and would have still lost even if Broadway gave up no runs) Lance would have had a 3.60 ERA at the MLB level. So in other words, the damage against his ERA was done in a game which it didn't matter anways (never an excuse to not try, but just consider that it didn't matter for the sake of the team). For all those who dislike him because you have observed his pitching style and his "stuff" (or lack of), what kind of sample size do you have? Sure he might not look like a control pitcher in some of his first outings against major leaguers, but that happens often to young rookies who want to overthrow or overcontrol the ball. I really don't think Broadway and Richard are that far apart. With that said, I don't see either one as having much of any decent major league future. I think both will spend a little time in the bigs as 5th starters or long men relievers 300 IP at the AAA level in '07 and '08 where he put up an ERA in the mid 4's and a consistently mediocre WHIP. Actually now that I think about it, he's never really done anything noteworthy except at the pitcher's paradise in Birmingham. I was encouraged by those '06 numbers but they look like an anomaly now. It's not that I'm a hater, it's that there really isn't much to go off of besides the fact that he was a first-round pick.

New car salesmen aren't as bad, used car salesmen are the scum of the earth.

Ok so this past Monday it snowed a pretty healthy amount (4, maybe 6 inches). The last time I had my car out was Saturday night, and it was raining, and I forgot to turn my windshield wipers all the way off. So while I was scraping the snow and ice off my windshield the wipers were trying to cycle but they were stuck, now my wipers park in the upright position like a set of goalposts. I do a little research on the net and I find that in all likelihood, I bent a tab that comes out to hold them in the park position and I have to take off my cowl and bend it back. Not being someone who's mechanically inclined I originally made an appointment to go to the dealer figuring it was a quick fix, but while driving home I changed my mind and I took it to a Goodyear around the corner from my house. I figure, this should be relatively quick and shouldn't cost more than 20 bucks. So dude takes my keys to look at the car, comes back and tells me that the tab is broken off (yeah I really doubt it's broken, I'm pretty sure it's still there) he has to order parts from the dealer, and between that and labor to replace the motor it's going to be $497. LOL. 500 bucks for my windshield wipers? Um, no. Does he think I'm mentally retarded? I also love how he just said this all with a straight face, like I just arbitrarily had 497 dollars that I could drop on windshield wiper repair (well actually I do but that's beside the point) and was prepared to do so. I'm going to Advance Auto tomorrow to buy the manual for my car ('05 Impala) and taking it to a friend's house so we can do it ourselves. Say no to sodomy pricing.

Playboy: Santelli's "Tea Party" rant pre-planned?

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) i like how the Democrats main focus is bloated radio show host and some CNBC stock market guy. those are the most important issues facing us. well done. It was amusing at first but now it's just like ok guys what the f***. -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 03:41 PM) The thing is people are mentioning 90 MPH fastballs from Broadway when we have plenty of proof that speed isn't the main ingredient for a winnner. Control and the ability to keep the ball down and pitch inside are always touted by coaches as the secret to success. But, yes they need to prove they can win up at the big league level. They also need to be given the chance. The bolded part is also, not coincidentally, what Broadway hasn't been able to do which is exactly why he doesn't look like he's going to amount to anything as an MLB pitcher. Not the speed of his fastball.
-
I don't think either of them will ever be anything more than a 4th starter type, but I think Richard is much more likely to reach that than Broadway is. I once had hope for Broadway, but he hasn't given me much of anything lately to hope for. If Richard never makes it as a SP, I'm pretty confident he'll be a successful reliever. I'd even go so far as to say he's a sure thing if that's where his career goes.

But if you do come here let me know so we can get a beer.

I live here, I'm not a big fan of Baltimore really. There are touristy things to do downtown and all, like the harbor, and some seafood restaurants. Other than that not much. I'd go to AC personally, or if you're really into tourist type stuff ride the extra 40 minutes down to DC. Baltimore's just an average American city imo.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 09:04 AM) Um. I'd predict he calls out terrible quarterback play about 4 weeks into the season, creates a huge rift, and eventually gets released. The Bears will NEVER get Owens. Now had they made a trade for Cutler... Let us please not start acting like that trade could have happened and Angelo simply failed to make it.

Wilson "the colander" Betemit, Owens and other thoughts

QUOTE (Cubano @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 12:38 AM) I have never written bench Dye or Quentin to play Viciedo. Have I? If so, please point cite where I posted such thing. I am saying if the Sox decides he is not the starting 3B then play him as a bench player resting Fields and Dye. He played 3B and RF in Cuba. He can DH and provide rest to the regular. Do not send him to the minors because he will adjust better with Contreras and Alexei. That is what I have written many times. Guys you are killing me! I respect your opinion but I disagree on the bold part. He's shown that his bat is impressive but he is not nearly developed enough as a professional ballplayer to sit on the bench. Players his age need to play regularly and if he's not starting in MLB for the Sox, the only other place he can do that is in Charlotte. Sure, having his fellow Cuban players helps, but that does nothing to replace the wasted chances for plate appearances and time in the field that I think is far more important. Now, I'd feel different if he was 22, 23. Alexei was 26. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 03:14 PM) Slight disagreement. There are a decent number of Republicans contesting the "I hope he fails" point of view. The problem is, the day after they disagree with that point of view, they're calling in to Limbaugh's show to apologize. That's a different point though. There's pretty much no excuse for that. Have some f***ing nuts.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 03:13 PM) The problem with that metaphor is...if the White Sox fail this season, it doesn't drag down the other 30 teams in MLB with them. If people lose their jobs, it drags other people down with them. You took his analogy too literally.

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) I don't understand the Republicans with this 'Obama must fail' I don't understand that, they could just say, we understand that something needs to be done to jumpstart the economy, we believe it can be done with tax cuts and giving businesses more incentives. We understand and hope that the spending of the Obama administration will work, as any spending will create more jobs, but we feel it is irresponsible and beyond the role of the government to commit those jobs." There are plenty of Republicans saying that though... but you know it's the bats*** outspoken types that get the attention.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) I'm sure part of it is just being a homer, but if you really think we aren't that good and think that we are some kind of bad people for becoming the world's lone superpower, maybe you shouldn't live here. I don't really think I've ever met an American crazy enough to think that America is some kind of bad, inferior place, other than apparently you. Look no further than the worldwide impact our economic crisis is having if you think we aren't, by far, the most important and powerful nation on the planet. You'd be a PERFECT fit at the UN though, I will say that. He doesn't actually think America is an inferior place, he just thinks that a lot of people overlook our own obvious flaws due to blind patriotism and likes to call it out when he sees it (I know this from talking to him all the time).

Actually I'm starting to think it's better for honest-to-god conservatives if the GOP would just die, and a new party was formed based off libertarian principles and a more modest social conservative platform. I honestly think that could gain some traction and it would do better than the current party, and be more relevant.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 12:50 PM) Ceiling? Depends on who you ask, but I guess it would be like Shane Victorino numbers-wise with a few more walks and K's. I heard he is also a CF Jesus.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 11:36 AM) I was watching Rush Limbaugh giving a speech to CPAC and I thought,as a political party you know you're in deep sh*t when you're reduced to having this clown as one of your movement's leaders.Outside of his dittohead fanboy base and other extreme right wingnuts, nobody takes this drug addict jerk seriously. As a democrat,I never hoped that W would fail even though I disagreed with almost everything he stood for because that would mean the nation would fail and I would be a traitor and a scoundrel that puts politics before country.I'm having a ball watching the GOP becoming an clueless irrelevant regional (read southern) party being led further into obscurity by reactionary blowhards...if and when the GOP gets serious and their adults take over and want to have a real debate on the future of our country that includes solutions other than government=bad and tax cuts,President Obama and the Democrats will be waiting...we won't be holding our breaths though. FYI, this kind of editorial-toned comment really more or less belongs in the Democrat thread.

Bush Admin Considered Changes to the 1st Amendment
lostfan replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 09:29 AM) I have no issues with any of that, I hope everything they do works when it comes to spending bills or unfreezing credit markets. It's not about hiding the information, I thought I made myself pretty clear with what I was talking about. I'm absolutely fine with the release of this information, my issue is with HOW they're releasing it. They're using a 'trickle' tactic to the media every time something bad happens with the stock market, money markets, credit markets, or when unemployment numbers hit, that's when a story suddenly comes to light about something Bush did in great detail. This isn't my imagination, either, it's what they're doing, and I find it to be business as usual in Washington. Meh, I'd be able to buy this argument, but who pays this any extra attention besides Olbermann, Maddow, and Huffpo bloggers? It's a one-day story.
