I don't know how OVERrated they have been. I think they were overrated in 2001 based on the high expectations from the previous season. The past two years, baseball "experts" have had little good to say about the White Sox and basically nailed their problems on the head. Even Gammons I remember said something like the Sox have problems giving up really big innings and having very key errors that give their opponents extra outs. To me, that was exactly what the Sox have done the past three years.

It looked a curve or slide-piece to me. I think he threw that pitch last year but it ran a bit straighter.

The White Sox are 0-1. That makes them 0-1 on the road and 0-1 in April. These are the players we saw today that had good games: Mark Buehrle Carlos Lee Sandy Alomar Paul Konerko These are the players that I think had a bad game: Damaso Marte Billy Koch I don't think Cliff Politte had a BAD game and I don't think any of our offensive players looked totally BAD to be honest. Even Jose came up clutch near the end. If this team can take leads into the 8th inning regularly, they will win alot of games. There's just no statistical precedent to expect us to blow 4 run leads every day. Where is JUGGERNAUT when I need him, he was always so good with numbers.

I don't think this thread really defines the type of loss we saw today. Maybe we need a different one for 2004 when the pen blows one.

I agree, I think Politte should have been pulled after the first walk. Other than that I really have nothing to second guess. Not when your best reliever by far gives up 2 homeruns without recording an out.

I am much happier the offense looked good today than worried about the final result. I think bullpen problems are much easier to fix via the trade than offensive or starting rotation problems. I mean the Red Sox were blowing games left and right at the beginning of last year and they managed to shore things up. I also just am trying my hardest to not let this get me down.

What happened Opening Day 2003?

Sox were the better team today for 8 innings. Let's hope they can take something positive from that.

Do you not think it qualifies as an "Instant Classic"? I was telling some Cubs fan about the ESPN special today because they did some trickery where they made it seem like the Cubs won Game 6 and the Red Sox won game 7. He refused to listen as do most Cub fans.

Yeah I understand and all White Sox fans know this. I'm glad the media doesn't care because then we would be just as bad as the Cubs and BoSox and I would have to slit my wrists.

I'm watching this because I'm so baseball starved. One of the people talking about curses said something like "When the fans of a team haven't won for so long, they start to come up with curses". That just makes me proud to be a White Sox fan because we suck it up and don't make up excuses. Sure curses are cute and fun to write about, but they just make your team more of a joke than they already are.
