Do these type of awards often go to top offensive players/prospects (a la gold glove voting)? Is this mostly based on CS% or do you think the managers have a good handle on overall defensive prowess? How much of his improvement might have to do with weight loss?

Brent Lillibridge has had two good months (July '08, July '09) over the last two years at AAA.

Not sure what his defensive numbers are, but he's having a pretty nice year at the dish (slightly better than his career average). I watched part of this game--he's still kinda chubby. Edit: Worst UZR of his career, but it's a small sample size.

Freddy had a very good September in 2006. He added a pitch--a knuckle-curve or something. His average fastball was down to 89.4 for that year and I think it might have been even lower that month. I think that he can be effective (4.5 ERA) if he's in the high eighties.

Speaking of B&B, was anyone listening earlier this afternoon? Did they mention the Hardball Times article on Rios that was posted here a few days ago? More recent update: Rios "should be in uniform." That seems more ambiguous.

The Score just said on their 2:30 PM update that Rios will make his debut with the team today. I am assuming this means that he will be in the lineup.
