  1. QUOTE (scenario @ Nov 21, 2009 -> 04:26 PM) The Javelinas pitching staff has 14 strikeouts throughout 8 innings. The other team (Devil Dogs) has... 4? Hard to imagine that this game would even be close based on that stat. I read in the preview that Javelinas pitchers led the AFL in strikeouts, but were last in ERA.
  2. Weren't there some indications that the White Sox were high on Gartrell or at least are hyping him (ie Phil Rogers article)? I doubt they'd leave him unprotected.
  3. How many spots are available on the 40-man? The Teahen trade freed one up, no?
  4. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 12:01 PM) That's a pretty odd question to ask. Considering he's never played any kind of meaningful football to my knowledge... He made some comments recently about how he would've been an NFL star if he went that route. I think he was asked if he could help the Browns. He played 1 or 2 years in high school I guess.
  5. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 10:24 AM) Ozzie could finally get his third catcher later this year..... they could call up Flowers and then stretch the versatility of several of their guys. Flowers could be a part time DH this way. Lillibridge can play all over. Nix has played OF...Retherford has played all over the place Alexei can move around to different positions in an emergency. And it should be interesting if they ever stick Beckham at 3rd against certain lefties. My guess would be Nix plays 3rd in those situations though......and I dont know if i like it I really hope that Lilli isn't in their plans for 2010 other than an AAA guy who may be called up there is an injury. Retherford would probably be a better option even for that job. I don't think they'll move Beckham to 3rd at all.
  6. He's indicated that he doesn't want to come off the bench. Is there a team that he could start for?
  7. The Angels will need a DH if Abreu plays the field, no? That's probably how PK would fit in.
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 14, 2009 -> 08:14 AM) The funniest thing I have heard about this so far is that Sosa is unwilling to reveal the name of this cream that he bought from Europe, but at the same time he is talking about how he wants to endorse it. If he revealed the name he would essentially be endorsing it for free, eh?
  9. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Nov 12, 2009 -> 10:49 PM) No. That's just the point. It doesn't "all" fall on Cutler. But for some folks, none of it falls on Cutler. I GET that Cutler has talent. I GET that he's way down the list of problems. Turner is a dope. Angelo built the worst offensive line in the league. Forte looks slow. And the receivers are inexperienced and not so good. I don't even like Kyle Orton, unlike some wackos who make it all about him. What I'm pointing out is something different -- a very weird excuse-everything-Cutler-does mentality that has started to creep into these discussions about the Bears. He's the quarterback, and he's turned it over a lot. And some of those -- yes -- are his fault. His fault. Yep.
  10. It's really hard for me to believe that Cutler can be this bad.
  11. Another one? If the DT didn't get that there were still two more red jerseys in that ball's path.
  12. Well, that was a surprising turn of events. The guy blocking Tommie seemed to just give up at the end of the play.
  13. The game is on channel 50 for any fellow luddites who don't have the NFL Network. NFL Network guys all liked the 49ers during the pregame.
  14. Jermaine's a good hitter and probably has productivity left. However, his assertion that this was his first bad half in years isn't correct. He posted a .673 OPS in the first half of 2007.
  15. QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 02:59 PM) I would think Buddy Bell has seen plenty of JD2's games, and he was the first to say he's Major League ready. Keep in mind, Buddy Bell also thought DeWayne Wise was a hidden gem. IIRC, Buddy said that DeWayne could contribute more than Jerry Owens. For 2008, I think that history proved him right.
  16. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) Ugh. We talked about this privately, but the Danks talk is getting insane. He put up an OPS under .700 in AA last year, yet people are penciling him into RF and leading off. 70 AB's in the AFL isn't going to change my mind either. He basically didn't hit at all until Arizona after he injured his wrist. The White Sox must think he is completely healthy and that his second half was injury-induced and NOT just a matter of regression to the mean. Even before he got hurt he did strike out a lot and did have an unrealistically high BABIP--so you may very well be right that he is still far off.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 08:24 AM) Manny costs the Dodgers 50 games because of a drug suspension, so they re-up him and pick up his $20 million dollar option That was a player option. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4631051
  18. This is a lot of handwringing over nothing. Teams often move their best prospects/athletes around to fill needs and get their bat in the lineup (Pujols, Miggy Cabrera, etc). The White Sox are making a savvy move because it's easier to get an average to above-average bat to fill in at 3B than it is at 2B. I expect Beckham to be a better defensive second baseman than Getz was and I expect him to take the transition in stride. He's not some fragile hot-house flower.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 29, 2009 -> 04:04 PM) I'm pretty sure the marriage gig didn't contractually obligate $331-$448k per MONTH for the rest of her life. I am specifically referring to the baseball and travel-related perks possibly being part of the CEO gig.
  20. Whose to say those perks weren't contractually included in the gig?
  21. Uribe had a nice offensive year this year. His UZR was way down--I don't know if that's valid and it's a small sample size, but one would think that his weight would eventually catch up to him on the field.
  22. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 06:00 PM) Did anybody else get the impression that Getz has a noodle arm at 2B? I'm still in the Pro-Getz/Hope CJ Is Amazing category, but I don't think he is very good defensively at all. I think he has a bad arm. He can set up on most double plays and get his body into the throw. But if he ranges to his right and his momentum is going the wrong way he doesn't seem to get anything on the throw. I really expected Getz to walk more than he did. I didn't really expect Nix to so much as make the team. Nix exceeded my expectations for him and Getz fell short. I may irrationally favor Nix because of that. To answer the question about Nix vs. righties--I really don't remember how he looked.
  23. Shoe deals are one of the stupidest parts of college sports.
  24. It would be more correct for me to say that he hit better vs. RHP during the years for which minorleaguesplits.com has stats available--basically the second half of his minor league career.
