  1. There is a sample size issue with looking at Nix vs. RHP in 2009. He actually hit RHP better than LHP in his minor league career.
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 19, 2009 -> 09:18 AM) i think the problem is the speed of the internet and google showing the search results like it is fact. Twitter increases the speed of a rumor times infinity Yes, google should list that site in their blog search--not their news search.
  3. Well, you *could* make the same argument for husbands and wives. It would be bad and you would be wrong, but it could be done.
  4. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 09:39 AM) When Thome/Giambi/Johnson etc can be had for a fraction of that money. One of these things is not like the other.
  5. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Oct 7, 2009 -> 01:20 PM) Start with the fact that Verlander is just reaching his prime and had his best season and is a horse. Continue with the fact that Peavy pitched in the best pithing park in baseball and in a crap league, which certainly helps his stats immensly. ERA+ accounts for league and park.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 10:30 AM) Out of curiousity where did you get the $18 profit figure? I don't think he was trying to figure in the operating expenses, just trying to guess at the after-tax revenue. In fact, it looks like there is a flat $4 tax on parking fees above $12 so he's not far off: http://www.chicagoparkingmap.com/data/news..._02-01-2009.pdf
  7. So what I'm getting is that you'd rather they drug him out to the street and shot him rather than let him spell Konerko in a meaningless game?
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) why are they playing a doubleheader??? game has no effect on the playoff race, let the 2 teams play 161, and save the fans the trouble of having to watch one more game Money.
  9. It's not as if Fields is taking playing time away from some hot 1B prospect. They are hoping he does well, which might increase his trade value (which currently sits at next to nothing) ever so slightly.
  10. I worked at Fannie May for a few months before it closed a few years ago (it later reopened under new ownership). People would come in fairly often and say that they preferred Fannie May to what they'd tried in Europe. I suspect that they were full of s***, but I guess there's no accounting for taste.
  11. The NFL's exemption is only related to TV rights.
  12. It seems like the White Sox have been talking up Gartrell. I'd be surprised if he wasn't protected. It looks like there are only 3 open spots on the 40-man. I would think that Marquez, Armstrong, and possibly Wise might be somehow jettisoned. Fields also might be traded by December. When does the 40-man have to be set for the draft? How does it relate to free agency--will our FAs (Kotsay, Pods, Castro etc) be either signed or definitively not resigned by then?
  13. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 03:08 PM) Thought Seattle had Brandon Cotuu (sp?), liked him out of college, sure as hell better than Mare. They did in and the past and may in the future: http://blog.seattlepi.com/seattlesports/archives/180396.asp
  14. QUOTE (joeynach @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) Isnt this just going to be a simple supply demand function now. Prices went up and demand for tickets and parking fell off. Now to offset the excess in supply of parking and tickets, prices will come down. This will also increase the demand for complimentary goods such as concessions, souvenirs, and other game day purchases. I only remember once ticket price decrease for the Sox. I bet they keep tickets the same price--but I agree with you that lowering the price might increase revenue.
  15. There was also an 11% across the board ticket price hike, no? And I think a 10% increase in parking fees? So a 9% dropoff isn't that bad. Losing the sponsorships and advertising is probably more of a concern. Of course, it's hard to pitch your park for advertising when your attendance went down--so there's that.
  16. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) In all honesty... last nights game is keeping me from buying tickets to todays game. Who wants to see a team get thrashed by the team who beat you out for the playoffs? And I HATE the fact that Tigers fans are going to be all up in the house cheering on their playoff team louder than our fans. They have a reason to cheer though and we don't. This is depressing just line 2007. I hate when the Sox suck... They won the previous game against the same team. The difference was very good pitching the first night and very bad pitching the second night. I don't know what that has to do with position players quitting or watching football.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 10:54 AM) Im looking at everything, not only WHIP, ERA, IP, Runs Allowed, Walks, Homeruns allowed, strikeouts. The numbers are very similar. And I agree, he has been a gas can, but somehow he has been able to maintain his numbers from last season. Maybe it is just his highs and lows evening out, i just must have missed the part this year where he hit a dominant stretch Take another look. His WHIP and K:BB took quite a hit this year.
  18. Cubano, would that second pitcher be White Sox farmhand Lucas Harrell? There is a little bit of talk about him and the game in the Future Sox subforum.
  19. I don't think he threw the frog in the water. There was a cutaway--likely no frog in his hands.
  20. What's wrong with Nick Johnson? Injured a lot?
  21. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 05:01 PM) Fantastic. I don't know how this guy keeps living. Breathing in and out, food, water, shelter, one foot ahead of the other, etc.
  22. Matt Thornton is our best relief pitcher and I think Ozzie uses him very well. He doesn't have a set inning, but instead Ozzie generally uses him in high-leverage situations. That's the best role for your best reliever in my opinion.
