  1. They said he'd have to mix in his breaking ball to get back to the starting rotation. By all accounts, he was almost exclusively using his fastball during this Charlotte start. His ERA this year is deceptive. I give the guy credit for battling and hitting his spots with his fastball, but I don't think he has much left. Do you think Poreda is going to develop a pitch between now and next year? Seems doubtful. Let's see how his stuff works in a starter's role now. Whee.
  2. In a small sample size Poreda has excellent major league numbers (including peripherals). I don't know if he has the repetoire to be a ML starter at this point, but he has earned the chance imo.
  3. Jermaine evokes woe, misery, and dread in opposing pitchers.
  4. Did any of you that want him watch him pitch this season?
  5. QUOTE (qwerty @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 06:32 PM) Mlbtr sure as hell used to make things up. The owner himself, not just other sources, that is a fact. See for yourself... make sure to read the whole thread. That's funny. The reactions to the proposed trade are also pretty funny (specifically that the Cubs would be crazy to give up Rich Hill and Matt Murton for one year of Carlos Lee).
  6. FWIW, his UZR/150, after starting off below average this year, has been climbing towards his 2006 number.
  7. What the heck is qualified/non-qualified? Which is it? DeWayne Wise has a lower OPS on the season. Anyway, yeah, Brian has not been very good lately. Not much more to be said.
  8. When one Brian Anderson just isn't enough.
  9. So does MB not strike people out now that he has the new grip on his cutter?
  10. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) hell yea bros lets do some bangin!!!1!!!
  11. James Baldwin comes to mind, but there may be someone more recent.
  12. I tallied Santana's ERA v. the NL when he was traded to the Metropolitans: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...t&p=1566636 Huh.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) Am I the only one who paid any attention at all to how we went about developing Danks and Floyd in 2007? You can't just run out a mediocre young pitcher and assume they'll be better the next year because of it. Richard does not have the stuff that Danks and Floyd had.
  14. QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) Reimold Despite playing since mid-May, he barely has more RBI than Beckham.
  15. Romero (TOR) is the most deserving so far.
  16. With runners on .285 for Kong and .284 for Big Jim. Runners on = larger sample size than RISP. I dunno--for power hitters it seems like a better stat to me.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 11:20 PM) Konerko is hitting .300 has as many homers as Thome, leads the team with 50 RBI, and in the top 10 in the AL with RISP. Thome is hitting right about .250, and is doing exactly what is expected of him, nothing more. Nothing special to write home about. Thome's average with runners on is basically the same as Konerko's. His OPS is 50 points higher and his homeruns and RBI are close despite not playing NL parks. I dunno, just seemed strange. I could see one grade higher just depending on how you value certain things, but 2 seems excessive.
  18. Why do you have Konerko two grades higher than Jim Thome?
  19. Although he is not playing every day, Castillo now has a 9 game hitting streak. He OPSed .821 in June.
  20. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 01:35 PM) Burn, Mitch Maier. Slayer is about to hit this over your head in CF for what you did to him. Good call?
  21. Seems like first half of 2008-type Floyd. He's going to walk a lot and hopefully give up very few hits.
  22. Thome read this thread tonight guys.
