  1. I am excited. It seems like there have been a lot of these late bloomers around baseball lately.
  2. QUOTE (soxfan-kwman @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 12:28 PM) 3. Wise...is getting healthier every day You forgot to mention that every sunrise bring's BA one day closer to the grave.
  3. Yeah, real men think staring in a peephole is awesome!
  4. Didn't he start throwing a knuckle-curve in his last few games with us? Did he keep using that pitch?
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 03:25 PM) Offensively, Wise is better and while I know Wise has had a worse season (and he's still a bad offensive player) Anderson really does suck offensively. However, there aren't major differences in there offensive game where defensively, Anderson is really a premiere defensive OFer. And since we are going to seriously have a major need with guys coming off our bench to play outfield defense, I'd have went with the defensive specialist. Based on?
  6. Possible? Yes. However, how many of his injuries over the years have been fielding-related?
  7. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 05:36 PM) A closer with a 4.00 ERA is not really a closer. C'mon. His WHIP is 1.16. He has a 5:1 K:BB ratio. He's been fine.
  8. That pic is from something else. It just seemed appropriate. Also somewhat appropriate: My dad went to school with this guy http://www.jerrymoran.house.gov and called him Weenie Moran
  9. I would wager that the Cardinals season ticket holders who ponied up for the all star tickets (which were $$$) are largely from the county (St. Louis County as opposed to St. Louis proper). The county is significantly more red than the city. My wife protested President Bush's appearance and had some awful things said to her.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 01:24 PM) I thought oreo filling had ground up bone in it. Or maybe that's twinkies. Half of the refined sugar on the market has bone char to make it look whiter. Mmmm. I read that Fielder's wife gave him Skinny b****, which I understand does detail slaughterhouse conditions. Edit: Actually a quarter and it's processed using bone char--there's not actually bone char in it.
  11. QUOTE (soxman352000 @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 11:22 PM) Does anyone know what the hell type of thing Southpaw is? Was that ever established? He always seemed like the personification of the plants in center field to me. I believe he debuted around the same time they were installed (wikipedia says his debut was June 13, 2004). He also has those pinwheels for buttons--which fits the centerfield theme.
  12. Give the guy a break. He comes from a long line of cobblers*. Look at his stats, man. *This may not be true.
  13. Looks like a bear hug gone south. Fredbird looks like he's about ready to topple over. My wife saw someone try to push Fredbird off the upper deck balcony at Busch when she was a lass. Fredbird did not venture up there after that. It has been posted on here that Southpaw is actually a she, not a he (assuming it has consistently been the same actor or whatever). I also like the generic mascot fist-pumping in the pic. A friend of a friend had a job driving the A's elephant around on a cart, but lost it after she asked too many players for their autographs. Ha.
  14. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 09:37 AM) I can't stand the people who constantly use their Facebook status to complain about how much their life sucks or how they hate their present situation. There's a girl in particular who is still in college, and throughout the entire school year the status was always "cannot stand the stress," "can't wait to be home for break," etc. Now it's the summer, and it's "so over this place" and "can't wait to go back to school." Shut the f*** up. Stop making your problems my problems. I hate complainers (and yes, I see the irony in this post). This bothers me as well. However, I have come to realize that a lot of people just like to vent (whether in person or on facebook) as part of their method of thinking about/dealing with/processing their problems. They're not necessarily looking for advice or sympathy or what have you--just a listening ear. It stresses me out to hear other people's problems because somewhere in my mind I think they want me to solve them.
  15. Anyone remember a terrible outing by MB v. the Cubs a short while before the ASB a couple of years ago?
  16. My wife just called me from the game. They played 1/2 inning and it started storming. There's a long stretch of storms coming through. Edit: Flowers is in the starting lineup, Viciedo is not.
  17. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 09:21 PM) Just getting in, I see Crede homered. I don't get it. Crede blows this year, except against us. Typical Twin bulls***. I blame you for that error. Why are the Twins putting in a pinch runner for Crede? Edit: Pinch running for him makes a little bit of sense after the HBP.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 06:32 PM) Farmer and DJ are saying that perkins just flat looks tired. 1-0 Sox. He's coming off a flu where he had a high fever. Anyone mentioned that in here yet? Long rest as a result. Ed Farmer wanted Thome to hit a homer. Ed Farmer, everybody.
  19. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 06:28 PM) probably a 2-0 fb coming down the cock here. EDIT or not There's nothing worse than a fastball down the cock. It's like having a baby in reverse.
  20. My strongest memory of Rick White was that he had a horrible spring training and there was a newspaper article written about how funny it was that he did so poorly. After all, he was a veteran with a long and decent track record. He joked about how his brother-in-law was giving him a hard time. Of course, he wasn't any better when the season started.
  21. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 08:50 AM) Salmons being traded doesnt make sense. He was your backup in case you lost Ben. You lost Ben and now you are going to trade two more Guards? The Timberwolves and the Bulls just might be able to cobble together some semblance of a single roster between the two of them.
  22. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 11:18 AM) Don't forget Carlos Gomes, who completely sucks against every other team. God, I dread these series because Hawk will blabber on about how awesome they are... I was so proud of him when last year he said their idea of keeping the same scouting ideas wouldn't work in the outdoor park next year, then this year he did a complete 180 and said it was a great idea Carlos Gomez has a .250 OPS against us this year so hopefully that was just a one year thing.
