  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 07:13 PM) 8, 9, 10 the next three years. Year one was the cheapie, year 5 is 10 million with 2 million dollar buyout. And the guy has never actually played a full season either. the most he has played is 151, but he seems to average in the 130s. Not very reliable in the health or defense dept. Ok.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 06:48 PM) The only stretch IMO is that it is probably on the low end, considering this FA class flat out sucks. Yeah, I'm not saying he was aiming high, I was just surprised he pegged an exact contract and then tried to make a point off of it.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 06:46 PM) I know it isnt anything you put together, but you have been throwing it around as if it somehow is a good explanation for bad contracts. A player who has never produced less than a 1.5 WAR in a full season, and is coming off a 4.4 WAR season is going to make $7M a year, and that's a "bad contract". Well.....alrighty then.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 06:25 PM) Gmafb with your "he was worth 20 million last year" equation for WAR. Last year far exceeded any season he ever played in the majors and he didn't even play the position you want him to play because he was so bad and Lawrie isn't. EE isn't worth that paper. Bottom line. And I would be pissed if the Sox were the one buying high because of last year With "my equation"? Lol. I appreciate the credit, but that's not anything I put together. And he was still producing a 1.5+ WAR when he was playing 3B, btw.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 06:02 PM) How is that a sell high when they just gave him new paper, 5 years 35 million. I dont know that i would trust him to produce like he did last season and also put him at a position that he is very poor defensively for that money. Last year was an anomaly Last year he was also worth 4.4 WAR, or about $20M. They aren't paying him to repeat 2012, they are paying him for about a 1.5 WAR, which he has done 5 times in his career prior to 2012 (only year he didn't was 2009 when he missed half the season).
  6. QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 04:59 PM) With all of these additions, Toronto is going to have a few players that need to be moved. Is there anyone, now expendable, who appeals to you guys? What about their young stolen base phenom, Gose? Jays OF: Bautista Davis Cabrera Encarnacion Lind Rasmus Gose It would be awesome to get Edwin Encarnacion from them to play 3B for us, despite him being a poor defensive 3B. They may see it as a "sell high" move, considering his monster 2012 season offensively, but I wouldn't count on it.
  7. QUOTE (Jillian Michaels' Abs @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 02:28 PM) He was on pace for an MVP-type season.... at a realtively young age at a premium position. Plus it doesnt hurt that Bowden is a former GM. I understand that, but he said it so confidently and exact. Not like "He could have gotten a 3-5 year deal for around $15M per year."
  8. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 02:44 PM) Why just the last 2 months? The award is for the whole season. And again, defense is ignored.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 02:11 PM) JIM BOWDEN ‏@JimBowdenESPNxm Melky Cabrera gets 2yrs $16m from Toronto. Had he not tested postive for PED's he would have gotten 4 X $14m ($56m)...paid price approx $40m How could he possibly know Melky would have gotten 4 yrs/$56M?
  10. Never been to a hostess outlet store (or seen one), and can't remember the last time I've ever had a Hostess product. I'm a bad fat guy.
  11. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 12:18 PM) 1987 Andrew Dawson and 2002 Alex Rodriguez "almost always"
  12. Blue Jays "still need and want" another Starting Pitcher. I wish they hadn't traded so many prospects, otherwise they might be more willing to accept a package for Floyd.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 05:39 PM) I still don't understand why that's such a big deal. It was a position he had played before, and it's not like he switched to catcher. If he wasn't capable of playing it, they wouldn't have asked. I agree. "Hey, do you mind switching back to the position you used to play so we can sign one of the best power hitters in the game?" Somehow I don't see that as a hard decision for anyone to make.
  14. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 04:32 PM) It's Miguel Cabrera. You reach a level of excellence at which the numbers simply don't tell the entire story. Miguel Cabrera was an absolutely fearsome player that changed the way everyone on the field approached the game. Trout had a great year, but compared to Miguel Cabrera I don't think he was feared at all. As a matter of fact, I don't think he was the most feared hitter in his lineup. Cabrera was so good that he'd burn you when you tried to walk him. You think anyone on the other side of the field was saying "s***, I hope I don't hit the ball down to 3B, Cabrera is a vacuum down there." No.
  15. The overvaluing of Triple Crown is really hard to believe. It's just a set of 3 arbitrary stats that someone decided upon decades ago. It doesn't even account for 3 different set of skills. AVG/HR/SB or OBP/HR/SB would have been a better representation of a complete hitter. Contact/Power/Speed or OnBase/Power/Speed. RBI is too largely dependent on teammates, and they go to closely with HR, IMO. Oh, and, of course the whole DEFENSIVE thing too.
  16. What's being overlooked here is that Ball State should pretty much be playing in the SEC at this point.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 08:59 AM) Donnie Veal was a 27 year old with a major league ERA over 7 before this year. Dude is probably filler for Charlotte, but you never know. Donnie Veal was a former 2nd RD draft pick and #52 ranked prospect. He had the skills at some point. I mean, it's whatever, just a filler for Charlotte like you said, no reason to really debate anything over such an insignificant signing.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 02:15 PM) Just for the record, my Trout pick has nothing to do with "anti-Tiger" bias. Not one bit. Same here, because I think Verlander should have been Cy Young.
  19. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 12:38 AM) I remember this guy because Troncoso is my ex's last name is Troncoso...Way to bring up bad memories White Sox.... Well your ex is a pretty terrible reliever.
  20. Edwards with a rushing TD now. BSU just DISMANTLING this 8-2 and recently top 25 ranked Ohio team. 52-27 now. 350 yards on the ground now.
  21. BSU killing Ohio now. 45-27. Backup QB Kelly Page is 5 for 7 with 41 yards passing, and has 26 yards on 3 carries with TD rushing. LOL Banks and Edwards are both over 100 yards. They are averaging about 10 yards/carry combined. This offense is just on point this season. Can't wait to see Banks mature, considering he is a freshman. He rushed for 120 yards on only 7 carries vs. Clemson, and is at about 120 right now as well.
  22. Holy s*** Horacio Banks! One of the best runs I've seen all season. wow. If anyone is bored and wants to watch the Ball State/Ohio game for some reason.... http://www.sportwebz.com/live/258116-ncaa-...vivo/gratis/tv/ It's also on ESPNU or ESPN2 in some areas, but I think it's blacked out everywhere but the West coast. Ball State up 38-27 in the 4th.
  23. Ball State leading Ohio 28-24 right now in the 3rd. Keith Wenning got injured on a reception he made in the 2nd half, so Kelly Page has been QBing it he has 2 TD on his first 3 plays. Not too shabby. I stayed at the game until half time, but it was so damn cold. Ball State wearing sweet new black jerseys for a "blackout" tonight on Senior Night, and they brought in a jumbrotron for the game too. I can't believe if we win we will be 8-3 on the year, with a good chance to go 9-3. That heartbreaking loss to Kent State really sucks now, as we could have been 10-2 with our only losses to Clemson and NIU.
