Little help for my Baseball class....
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 01:48 AM) Jamey Carroll will be at the same camp as Doyle and Vitek will be the same place as Tim Bogar. It could be helpful to get vet opinions too. Alright, I'll keep that in mind. I think I am going to contact Nationals 2011 1st RD pick Alex Meyer too. -

Alright cool, it seems Red Sox 2010 1st RD pick Kolbrin Vitek (Ball State Alum) is on board too. Not sure which I will choose, or maybe I will do stories on both, and show the contrasts between the careers of Terry Doyle and Vitek, although they are different ages and play different positions, so separate stories would probably be better. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 06:16 PM) I may have misinterpreted it, but I don't think that scene was for comedy. Carl is getting thrown aside a lot so far. i.e. pushed out of his room. I'm about to watch last nights now. I think you did, because that scene was hilarious.

"Q: He said you had a dislocated shoulder. Was that true? WILLIAMS: In football, everybody is going to be dinged up here and there. If what he said was that it was the cause for any of the mistakes that were made, that’s not it. I take full responsibility for the mistake that I did make. You have to play with what you got. I was dinged up. Everybody was dinged up. That’s just football. Nobody is going to be 100-percent. I was going fine. It’s just something that happened." That's a great answer. -
What is left to do this off season?

Trade Thornton at all costs. Try and sign Cepedes or Soler. Trade Gavin ONLY if a good offer is made. Otherwise, hold on to him and try to extend him. -

So Adam Dunn lost 30 pounds. I suppose it's so it's easier for him to "hit his weight", or at least, hit HALF of his weight. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 08:48 AM) speaking of irrational spite. If you really think KW has tried to make this team worse, despite being the most successful GM in the modern era for the Sox, you really are showing an irrational bias. I hope you realized I was being sarcastic, and was directing that comment at someone else. -

QUOTE (daggins @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 11:09 PM) How long do you think KW can milk that particular cow? It is not an unfair assessment to say he has spent the last 5 years or so running the Sox into the ground. No, that's COMPLETELY fair to say he has spent the last 5 years trying to lose his job by running an organization in to the ground out of some sort of irrational spite. Not unfair at all. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 08:52 PM) No. Dunn is a DH. Viciedo IS IN RIGHT FIELD. NO MORE MOVING. Flowers is our only non-AJ catcher. Ian Gac? Eduardo Escobar and Tyler Kuhn make more sense than any of the four you said. Then agree to disagree.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 08:40 PM) Building around a 31 year old? I actually thought he was 28. He is apparently 30. Maybe not "build around", but he isn't old like Paulie and could still be very good in about 2 years when this team is ready to compete again.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 08:33 PM) Paulie does? Dunn, Viciedo, Flowers, and maybe even Ian Gac I guess. Alexei has.....Eduardo Escobar. Besides a 1B is 100x easier to replace than a SS.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 08:21 PM) Konerko is a fan favorite, Ramirez is not. Alexei is the type of player you can build around, Konerko is not. Alexei plays high-caliber defense at a skill position, Konerko does not. Alexei has NO immediate organizational depth behind him, Konerko does.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 07:47 PM) I thought he was a Raiders fan? I would think at this point, with his son being the starting WR on another team, he would probably be in a good mood if his son wins the Super Bowl. -
I feel like Michael Jackson was held in a higher regard than Joe Paterno after his death, and Michael was the one actually getting his hands dirty.

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 07:35 PM) A couple buddies and I are looking to make a Trade Kenny t-shirt using the Trader Joe's logo. Looking to replace the food/bottle with something else. My suggestions were the Chicago skyline or something like a white flag in the center where the bottle is. Anyone else have any other thoughts what we could use on there? Yeah, maybe some faith. -

Maybe if the 49'ers win the Superbowl, Kenny will be is a super good mood and go ahead and sign Cepedes/Soler for us. That's be great. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 06:37 PM) Honestly, I'm not getting into this debate again. JP was stupid, naive, whatever you want to call it. He trusted those above him to handle the situation and it didn't get handled. He didn't see anything. All he had was somebody tell him that something happened. THAT'S the person that should've went to the cops right then and there. I'm done with this. If you want to mock the man's death, have fun. I'm not. He was a good man. f*** it. A great man as far as I'm concerned. Amen.
-
QUOTE (kev211 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 05:54 PM) This. The man f***ed up. There's not a single person who deserves the last 3 months of this mans life to ever happen to them. The disrespectful post about not resting in peace etc in this thread are sickening. Remember Joe Paterno didn't rape anyone. Yet people act like he did. RIP Joe Pa Yep.

R.I.P. Joe Paterno. Great coach, great man. He will be missed.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 03:23 PM) I don't think there's ever been a case of a player of almost any sort who suddenly at age 32 had a season that far below his typical level. And history has shown power is the last thing to go in a player. There is no way he suddenly lost all his strength. -
FWIW, I asked K. Goldstein what the odds were that Terry would make the Twins 25-man roster, and he said very slim, so it appears there is a good chance we get him back! So maybe not protecting him won't come back to bite us in the ass.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 09:24 PM) Dude was fat when he was good too. If he did indeed lose the weight it's nice that he seemingly has dedicated himself to getting back to form but who knows how the weight loss will effect his swing, power, etc... I'm not saying losing 30 lbs will make him good again, but it's a sign he is working hard and trying to improve. He could easily just do nothing and hope it turns around. And I am sure losing 30 lbs won't HURT at least, at least. Maybe even makes him a half-step faster! haha.
