If the Cubs can dump Zambrano on someone, surely we can find a taker for Rios......right? Right? RIGHT!?!?!?!??! -

I believe Cepedes hit 33 HR last year, a Cuban record. I found this little bit about Viciedo's numbers.... "Viciedo made the Cuban national team at age 15. By 16, Viciedo hit .337 with 14 home runs." -
Pumped (as usual) for The Show this year. While they haven't seemed to be making any drastic improvements, they ARE adding co-op franchise mode, which will be sweet, full game MOVE support (which will be interesting to try at least), and some "big surprise" for Franchise mode. I've heard it won't be anything like Create-A-Stadium or expansion teams or anything fun like that, but something big enough that they are keeping it on the hush for now.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 4, 2012 -> 05:07 PM) Interesting thought here. If Floyd is not traded before this season is over and he has a Gavin-like year (solid, nothing spectacular), do the Sox look to re-sign him? What kid of money could he expect? That's what I was saying a few days ago. I don't think Gavin is someone we NEED to trade, and I would actually welcome resigning him or giving an extension. Danks put up 15.5 WAR over his 4 FULL seasons with the Sox. Floyd put up a 14.9 WAR over the same time frame. While Floyd hasn't had a great season like Danks did in 2008, he has been more consistent and saw his peripherals spike up pretty good last year. -

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 4, 2012 -> 02:57 PM) Okay, let's say the Sox will aggressively pursue this guy, which seems likely. What's the most you'd like to see the Sox offer? Well, I randomly threw out a 5 yr/$48M figure a couple weeks ago. After reading some reports about how he could get nearly $50M, I'm thinking that might not be too far off, but probably more like 6 or 7 years at that cost. -

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jan 4, 2012 -> 03:12 PM) Is this the 2013 plan? I was looking at the #'s and by the looks of things, payroll will be down to $65 million heading into 2013. That can give white sox management up to $35 million to spend 'wisely' on players if they choose to go for it next year. Will that happen? I'm not sure. But with so many players coming off payroll, this year and next year, we may be sitting pretty FINALLY next winter. What are your thoughts on this? Maybe 2012 will be Beckham's last chance to prove himself. If not, make a run for Free Agent Brandon Phillips. Michael Bourn, Shawn Marcum, and Zach Greinke will also be FA too. -

QUOTE (Real @ Jan 4, 2012 -> 02:33 AM) can someone explain what exactly is the process? is the MLB preventing his FA declaration or something? doesn't he already have an agent? I think he has to officially defect from Cuba before he can be declared a free agent or something? I honestly don't know, I was under the assumption he was able to be signed this whole time. -

I'm wondering who Cowley is referring to who was in a "6-month slump" that we rewarded. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 08:19 PM) What's the gist of it? China has twitter/FB/youtube blocked, so just curious. About the time that Rios was acquired in 2009 and the writing was on the wall as far as JD's future? Garfien asked if JD was going to Soxfest this year to join the other '05 WS players. Cowley then butted in saying "Can't wait to see which leg Garfien will be humping. I'm guessing Cotts, just from the handsome factor." and tweeted it to Chuck and JD. Then he said "They didn't want Jermaine after a three-month slump, so Jermaine should say F-em." and " Now, they allow six-month slumps and pay well for it.", also both of those tweeted to Chuck and JD. Those last two tweets, Dye "retweeted", which basically means he agrees with it that he should say "f*** em" to the Sox. JD then tweeted Garfien saying he is not coming to Soxfest..... -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 07:00 PM) I'm shaking my head a bit at this one... If you believe in WAR, and Fangraph's monetary value for it, Crisp should be easily worth this contract. He has put up 7+ WAR in the past 3 seasons. This deal calls for him to put up 3 wins over the next 2 seasons.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 04:48 AM) Who hasn't seen the video? (Well... who isn't over 30?) Dunno if they will put that on with kids in the park either other than the instrumental version of it. Haven't they played "I'm too sexy" before? Or whatever that song is where the singer is apparently too sexy for his shirt. -

So who will be the first Sox player to rock this song? I figured the obvious answer would be Teahen, but he is not here. My money is on Lillibridge. Maybe Adam Dunn, but I doubt he will stray from a country song. PS: I did you all a favor by not posting the music video version. Trust me, you DO NOT want to see the music video....... . . . . . . ...but now you're curious! Haha, suckers. -
Personally, I think he can be a Luis Gonzalez-type player. Luis's career averages were a .283/.367.479/.845 slashline with 22 HR, 90 RBI, and 37 2B with below average defense. That's the comp I would pick.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 2, 2012 -> 11:46 PM) •The Yankees “desperately seek” a number two starter, according to Heyman. Edwin Jackson and Matt Garza may be more likely targets than Hiroki Kuroda, Jair Jurrjens, Wandy Rodriguez, Gavin Floyd and Roy Oswalt. The Yankees like Jackson’s arm, potential and durability, though they wonder about his consistency. However, they would like to keep new contracts to one or two years and Jackson seeks a five-year deal in the $60MM range. Shouldn't we just trade Floyd for prospects and get Kuroda, Jurrjens, Rodriguez or Oswalt on a three year deal? Interesting question. Maybe it would even be possible to get one of those guys to sign a one-year, incentive-laden deal so they could go back out on the market in 2013, but you'd have to think there are still clubs circling their prey willing to give at least 2 and probably three year deals to those four. Jurrjens has the injury concern, Kuroda has never pitched in the AL, same with Rodriguez (plus we'd consquently have three lefties in the rotation)...Oswalt has clearly seen a deterioration in his stuff in the last 2-3 seasons. Is keeping Floyd a better option than trading him and bringing in one of those four? Would Williams and Reinsdorf be willing to sign Jackson or Garza to long-term deals (4-5 years) after everything that's gone wrong with Peavy, Dunn and Rios, and just after having signed Danks and letting Mark Buehrle walk without making a legitimate offer? Pretty doubtful. If you could trade Floyd (for prospects) and sign one of those six pitchers OR sign Cespedes and keep Floyd, I would imagine most would prefer to roll the dice with a potential superstar impact bat in Cespedes rather than investing so much money into the staff... Or option #3, you trade Floyd and use that money to go after Cespedes....leaving Zach Stewart, Axelrod, Santiago or Castro as your #5 going into the regular season...with the possibility of adding another or pitcher or two back in return for Gavin Floyd (a catcher would be nice too) Jurrjens is signed with the Braves.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 2, 2012 -> 10:54 PM) Jimmy Hayes doing what I wish the rest of the Hawks would do more often: put the puck on the damn net. Gets his 1st career NHL goal. As soon as I saw him chase that puck in the corner, I was thinking to myself "turn and throw it at the net!!". I didn't expect him to score, but I figured we needed to at least afford ourselves the chance at a tip in or scrap the puck in. But just an awful, awful PP effort tonight. It was embarrassing.
