Carlos Quentin traded to Padres
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to LittleHurt05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 05:47 PM) We now have the least power in the outfield from what I can see. Put that with a .200 hitting 2b and no power at 3b either, the signing of Danks looks even stranger now. Williams has no clue. this team can't compete in the AL Power dropoff from Quentin to Viciedo shouldn't be too drastic, but yea, this OF is rather weak power-wise. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 05:45 PM) You either forgot Contreras or Viciedo. Maybe Minoso too. I didn't include Contreras because I meant guys who we signed straight off the Island, not acquired via trade. -

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 05:43 PM) This. I am worried about a player that hasn't been tested by basically any reference point that we have, though. I'm okay with rolling the dice though - more fun. However, our track record with Cubans (2/2) has been very good. Small sample yes, but it seems like when take a risk on them we have done our homework. -
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) Not sure what college you went too lol, it definitely wasn't a hit at mine. College people* So, IU/Purdue/Ball State mostly.

QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 04:29 PM) People need to wake up and stop talking about possibly signing the Cubans. Cespedes/Soler are a pipe dream. Sox are trying to reduce salary not add. Sox are also willing to spend money to build a future (ie, signing Danks to long term deal). We sign Cepedes, and we get him through the 2017 season at the minimum. -

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 04:20 PM) and also part of Keith Law's take: Which I'm sure the "KLAW HAS A WHITE SOX BIAS!!!" tard posters will completely ignore. He probably got scared of my angry tweet a couple weeks ago. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 03:44 PM) My dad just slammed Castro and Hernandez because "KW traded for them, so they suck" He's a little angry over Buehrle. Your dad must post on MLBTR. Almost every time the Sox make a move, a hoard of Cubs fans and KW haters flood the comment section and tell everyone how awful KW is and how "xxxx" is a terrible player. -

After looking up their numbers on Baseball-Reference, I am not as disappointed in this trade. Both guys seemed to put up really solid peripherals in A and/or AA last year. Yes, they both fell on their faces in AAA, but it was also a small sample compared to the rest of their season. Hernandez only had like 18 innings at AAA, and Castro had....30 something? At ages 24 and 23 and both at AAA, I'm not too worried. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 03:38 PM) Ok, as long as he has the pitches to be a candidate for starting, I'll be content. K. Goldstein was just on The Score and said he looks destined for a 7th-8th inning job. -

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) The big question is can these guys be in OUR top ten prospects Maybe the larger question- is there anybody that can't Probably #4 and #5. lol -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 30, 2011 -> 08:18 PM) College kids? Grown Ups is geared towards little kids and their parents. Well then they must have tapped in to a demographic that they didn't intend to, because it's a hit among college people I know. Also, it's rated PG-13. Not sure how "little kids" constitute teenagers, unless you are an old crotchety adult, which could be the case.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 30, 2011 -> 09:00 PM) Oh please, it seems everyone is exploiting that site and UZR these days and it's f***ing annoying. When Lichtman developed the statistic he sure as s*** didn't mean for it to be used on sample sizes as small as Jones': ~ 1200 INN in the outfield over the past three seasons. UZR is meant to judge starting position players over a 3000+ INN sample typically over a 3 year span. Any less or spread over too many seasons and you start to develop anomalies and inaccuracies that aren't weeded out by sample size. Well then show me how he is "barely an OF", because when he played for us, he looked fine out there.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 30, 2011 -> 07:46 PM) Andruw Jones is not a CF in any sense of the word. Let's not pretend like his fat ass can still play the position, please. He's a very good bench play -- perfect fit for an NL contender looking for pop off the bench -- but he's barely an outfielder at this point in his career. DH, PH and the occasional start in the OF is fine but anything beyond that is a stretch. Fangraph's disagrees.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Dec 30, 2011 -> 08:30 PM) The audience is at 59% which is right around that "ok" level. Which it was. That movie was OK. Still doesn't change my statement. Maybe the movie was geared more towards college kids (I'm sure it was), but like I said, only 1 person I know didn't think it was hilarious. You can not like certain movies, that's not going to bother me. My roommate thinks Dinner for Schmucks was a hilarious movie and I, on the other hand, couldn't even finish it, it was so bad. It's whatever though, comedies are usually hit or miss.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 30, 2011 -> 07:34 PM) Brent Lillibridge would like you to notice the similarity between his numbers last year and Andruw Jones's. I had actually forgot about The Bridge even being on this team, I was more focused on my disinterest in De Aza and my lack of trust in his ability to maintain that 2011 season throughout a full season.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 30, 2011 -> 06:47 PM) Things the White Sox continue to not need in the least: 1. Outfielders 2. Right hand hitting Outfielders 3. Right hand hitting outfielders who might belong as backups. Yeah, that $1.4M for an OF who provides good defense at all 3 OF spots, and crushes LHP (the same LHP that Adam Dunn went 6-for-94 against last year) would probably cripple this team. Last time we signed that guy, his 1.7 WAR and $7M value as a backup really blew up in our faces.

QUOTE (Felix @ Dec 30, 2011 -> 06:59 PM) http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/grown_ups/ I know, I've seen the reviews. And I can honestly say I still only know 1 person who didn't agree. Reviews of comedies don't influence my opinions at all.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 30, 2011 -> 03:50 PM) JonHeymanCBS Jon Heyman Jones' incentives are about $1.4M. Deal is pending physical Andruw jones, yankees in agreement. $2M base plus incentives Accck. I wanted Jones back. He was an incredible steal when we had him.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 30, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) That's by far the highest praise I've seen heaped onto Grown Ups. The best I heard before (and I agree with) was "OK". I honestly only know 1 person who didn't agree.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 30, 2011 -> 10:42 AM) Given the bluray player I got for X-Mas, the PS3 I already have, and the wife and my Fire/Nooks, I signed up for Netflix streaming. First on the list is The League, which I somehow never watched. One thing, is there a way to get just an alphabetical listing of everything that is on Netflix? I get the categories with like 30 or so flicks/shows in each, but I know there is way more, because when I search for other stuff it shows up. /netflixnoob I don't think so. And yeah, that's annoying how they don't allow you to "see" all the titles they have. The hilarious movie "grown ups" was hidden for a while, only to be found in "search". They also suck at listing NEW ARRIVALS. Half the time they are movies from 20+ years ago, or they don't include the newest and best arrivals they have (like when they added Breaking Bad)

Jed Hoyer and his wife just had a kid......they named him Beckett. Holy s***, is there any part of their life that Theo Epstein doesn't control?

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 29, 2011 -> 07:34 PM) Wasn't Marlins' payroll also the lowest continuously for the last decade or so.. Yeah, and there was also a chart that showed what % of each team's income they put back in to their payroll. The Yankees were at the top of that %, and the Marlins were the lowest on that list. IIRC, it was something like 25%, while the Yankees were over 70% I believe.
