I think rooting against the player is fine, I do it all the time, but I can't imagine adding ANY player would ever make me give up being a fan of the team. That's far too dramatic, IMO.
Kloff per Fangraphs:
"Opinions all over the place, with low end considering him an 88-91mph backend starter and high end projecting him as a hard-throwing stud with shades of Michael Kopech."
Well, that's an interesting comp. They said some teams may seem has as a backend of 1st RD type.
According to Fangraphs, the rumored price tag on Cole Wilcox is $3M. That would make Wilcox $2.3M overslot for us at #81. Sooooo. I doubt that happens.
Looks like RHP Kloff (42) and RF Isbel (43) and LHP Pilkington (52) are their 3 best available college players.
Just listened to the Fangraphs Audio podcast from last night again, because I couldn't remember who the player OTHER than Vasil was that they said would likely not sign, and it indeed was Siani. They said Vasil, Siani, and Rocker are the 3 most likely to go to college.
Your point does not stand. What's more likely, that Alec Bohm is facing 18-22 year olds whose bodies have physically matured, or that Alek Thomas is facing 14-18 year olds whose bodies have physically matured?
He said because of who his dad is, he physically maxed out his body at a young age and apparently the Sox don't think there is any projection left in his frame. They think his numbers are the product of him overpowering kids his age who haven't physically matured yet.
Possibly similar to the criticism against Nolan Gorman, that he was maxed out physically for his age and no projection left.
