  1. Sounds like the market is too hot for Manaea/Montas. Doubt the Sox have the pieces for either now. Wouldn't mind Meadows, either, especially if Kimbrel is in that deal, but Meadows isn't good defensively.
  2. He's a mediocre to bad left fielder defensively. Not a good fit for RF.
  3. Especially if I were making $20+ million a year. I'd wrap myself in the finest bubble wrap money can buy!
  4. Olson was actually better than Freeman last year, and he's in his prime. This is a good deal for the Braves, assuming Olson keeps it up. That's a lot of prospect capital to give up when Freeman only cost money, though.
  5. I agree, though I'm also fine with Conforto.
  6. And they got one. LA sees the writing on the wall now, post title.
  7. I assume the intent is for Vaughn to start splitting time with Abreu this season at 1B/DH, taking over after Abreu is done this year. I really don't think they have the money to sign him for 2023, unless he takes a sweetheart retirement tour deal at near minimum salary.
  8. Seems like he's not guilty of anything beyond being a complete idiot. I suppose that's the best outcome for him, but I'm not sure I would touch someone who at best is stupid enough to get involved with a crazy woman. Plenty of athletes sleep around and don't ever have a problem like this.
  9. Didn't she also kick him down the stairs? I remember that standing out to me for some reason. I also remember how many people made fun of Finley for that, which is really sad. They clearly don't understand what domestic abuse is like from a man's perspective.
  10. Apparently California decided to not file any charges against him, so he's coming out with his side of the story.
  11. He absolutely wasn't put in a position to succeed, and with proper instruction and having someone listen to his feedback I think he would've been competent. Also, I'm a senior leader in my day job and I can't believe some of the things I read in that Athletic article. I would NEVER treat people the way Nagy did, especially the ones who actually give a shit and WANT to learn.
  12. I don't think Mitch was ever going to be worth the pick and the resources spent to get the pick. I think he could be an average NFL QB at best because he just can't throw the deep ball. He CERTAINLY would've been better than his actual Bears tenure, though. Nagy's offense never worked and he should've been let go after last season.
  13. My dad was at game 1 - definitely the better game to be at, and one of his fondest memories.
  14. 39, been here since the beginning. Lurked for a long time, had another account too but forgot it. ST has been in my daily routine forever.
  15. I cannot figure out why the Ravens went for 2 there. Cost them the game.
  16. That doesn't seem like it's a real thing. That's ridiculous.
  17. For whatever reason Madrigal and Heuer were firmly in their "must trade" pool, and that's fine if their talent evaluators said "sell high please" or they were both low character guys. Using them for Kimbrel was a bad decision at the time, looks even worse by his performance, and is only redeemable if they pull off a coup of a trade.
  18. I really hope Madrigal ends up mediocre/really is an irredeemable ass, otherwise trading him to downgrade 2B for much more money seems really stupid.
  19. Bryant crushes righties
  20. Probably just blasting nonsense out there in the hopes that it sticks, but man would that be nice.
  21. Or he loves playing here (well-documented) and wants to be on a winning team.
  22. That's fair, and he only has 600 or so innings at 2B, but I don't know if I've seen enough from him stats-wise or eye test-wise to say he'd be at least league average. He'll also be 31 when the season starts so he likely will start to decline, and there's less room for that to be acceptable than there is with Segura.
  23. Leury is worse at 2B. -2.9 UZR/150.
  24. 2.2 bWAR vs 3.7 for Segura. Segura is also a better hitter vs. righties and a MUCH better hitter vs. lefties. Leury also struggles vs. ground ball pitchers - Segura is 100 OPS points higher. Leury also grades out as below average at 2B from what I've seen - Segura is a solid defensive 2B. I don't think Segura is an amazing upgrade, but he's good, consistent, and he competently fills a hole that the Sox have left open. I don't think its a guarantee that Leury hits 2 WAR again, either.
  25. Whether we like it or not, the Sox did not like Madrigal. That's over now - filling a weakness with a strength via trade is a good move.
