Baseball made their bed. Nobody is above suspicion. But who the hell knows what goes on behind closed doors? I'm not going to worry about it until somebody fails a test, grows two hat sizes, or hits 50 homers in a season out of nowhere.

F*** it III: Sox vs The National. First Pitch 7:10 CT
flavum replied to Kyyle23's topic in 2011 Season in Review
All three interleague series have gone L-W-W. I, for one, would like to see this trend broken tonight on our way to being over .500 on Sunday afternoon. -
I said "may" be looking at an all-star appearance. If he has two more great starts, and is 11-5 with an ERA around 3.30, then he could be an all-star. The thought that the Diamondbacks have their obligatory all-star in Upton, and nobody else can make it, is a little premature.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 08:05 AM) Justin Upton would like to remind you that the D-Backs have their guaranteed spot on the roster already filled. I would like to remind you the Diamondbacks are in 1st place, the all-star game is in Phoenix, and Hudson has 9 wins. Now, while agree that win totals for starting pitchers has been reduced to almost pointlessness, I'll throw in he has 12 quality starts out of 16 starts.

Half way through interleague play...AL leads 66-60. Not too bad for the NL. AL teams are 37-20 at home with the DH, and 29-40 on the road. AL records: 7-2: Cle 6-3: Sox, NY, TB, LAA 5-4: Bos, Sea, Tex 4-5: Bal, Min, Oak 3-6: Tor, Det 2-7: KC

Hey look, another quality start for Hudson. 3.58 ERA. He may be looking at an all-star appearance.
-
I kinda see Riggleman's side. Rizzo is tough to deal with, so he's either getting paid for 1.5 years now, or he's starting The Summer of Riggs.

Too soon to give up on this season, but I've been clear that if the Sox don't make the playoffs, Kenny Williams has to resign. Two playoff appearances in 11 years in this market and in this division, isn't good enough. At that point, Rick Hahn should be given the keys, and it would be his decision on whether to keep Ozzie. That is, if Reinsdorf doesn't veto it.
-
Since starting 11-22, the Sox are 26-17. That's a pretty solid .604 pct. They still have some rough games, but if they keep .604 up for the final 86, they'll win 89 games. That might get it done. If Dunn gets his s*** togther, I think that would make the Sox the favorites to win the division.
-
Some new math... 88 games left. 55 division games left. 55-33 would win 90 games. That's .625 ball the rest of the season.

Beckham should be playing. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 11:30 AM) It's all about the fact that Ozzie Guillen faps to pictures of Juan Pierre 24/7. He has a love for the man that is unmatched by anyone. But that's where Kenny Williams has to put on the big boy pants, and craft this 25-man roster any way he wants to. It's Kenny's job to make the roster. It's Ozzie's job to manage it. Period.

My argument was the Sox wasted 4 mil on Manny Ramirez last year for a month. Completely threw it away on that piece of s***. If they can't eat a couple mil due to Pierre the rest of the year, and trade it out for Viciedo, who is making good coin in AAA.... I just don't get it from the "return on investment" front. Teams dump salary all the time because the player sucks. This wouldn't be any different.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 07:07 PM) Holy heck, a ton of empty seats. Let that be a warning to MLB never to put the Sox and Cubs in the same division. It would eventually kill the game. -
Why do I keep writing off the Twins? Why!! 17-37 to 86-76 would still be tough. They aren't going 69-39, are they?

Pierre LF, Vizquel 2B, Ramirez SS, Konerko 1B, Dunn RF, Rios CF, Pierzynski C, Teahen 3B, Humber P

Breaking Bad--one month from today!
-
By winning percentage, the White Sox have the easiest interleague schedule in the AL. Gotta clean up.
-
Yep. They get the walk off, feeling good about themselves going into tomorrow. Putz did blow a save though.
-
DBacks in extras. Hopefully they play 20 innings.

Sox versus Twins 12:10 pm Afternoon Delight
flavum replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2011 Season in Review
By my count the Sox have 42 quality starts in 70 games. That's 60% and on pace for 97 quality starts. That's very good. Good teams win between 75 and 80% of their quality starts. The Sox should have 31-34 wins in those 42 quality starts. The Sox are 25-17 in their 42 qualilty starts. So they should be 6-9 games better than they are with the starting pitching they have. -

They really have to go 10-5 the next 15, or they're in a real bad place. -
The Sox will now have 55 division games after July 3rd. Tigers- 12 Twins- 14 Indians- 13 Royals- 16 There's your season.

QUOTE (MAX @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 08:16 PM) Perhaps they didn't have problems, but don't you think the fans might show up in larger numbers if they knew they would be comfortable? I guess, but from my experience at Miller Park, even when the roof is open, it's still different than a regular open-aired stadium. I don't fault the Twins for not building a stadium with a retractable roof. It's a beautiful downtown park, and they wouldn't be able to create that atmosphere with a roof.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 08:05 PM) Why they built a stadium in Minnesota with no retractable roof is beyond me. You know much that costs? They didn't have any more problems with weather than any other team last year. The Minnesota weather thing is overblown.
