  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 03:05 PM) Thanks for saying that, I was wondering that after I saw that... The question now becomes, who are they targeting that they opened up a spot on the 40 man... Any theories? Possibly Tomo Ohka, but with possible trades of Crede, Uribe, Anderson, and Masset, I wouldn't read into this too much. For all we know, Vasquez may have had a b**** session in Guillen's office this morning when they were going to send him down, and KW just released him instead.
  2. Pitchers (18): Buehrle, Carrasco, Contreras, Danks, Dotel, Egbert, Floyd, Jenks, Linebrink, Logan, MacDougal, Masset, Ohka, Russell, Sisco, Thornton, Vazquez, Wassermann Catchers (5): Armstrong, Hall, Lucy, Phillips, Pierzynski Infielders (10): Cabrera, Crede, Eldred, Fields, Konerko, Ozuna, Ramirez, Richar, Uribe, Thome (DH) Outfielders (6): Anderson, Bourgeois, Dye, Owens, Quentin, Swisher Happy, Pappy?
  3. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) That's not the camp list - that is the 40-man roster. Subtract the guys cut today. Then go to the non-roster list. Subtract the guys cut today. Then subtract Wes Whisler. 39 left.
  4. QUOTE(scenario @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) The Trib article says 39 players left in camp. Anyone got a list? http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/team/roste...an.jsp?c_id=cws Don't count Wes Whisler as a non-roster invite.
  5. I think that was a mistake on the writer's part. No way Ohka starts the season with the Sox unless there are injuries and trades. The staff right now is Buehrle, Vazquez, Danks, Contreras, Floyd, Masset, Logan, MacDougal, Thornton, Linebrink, Dotel, and Jenks. Wassermann is first in line if a move is made.
  6. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 12:30 AM) Not too many people do that. I'm the opposite. Even though I'm left handed I through right handed for some reason. OK--trivia: In the last ten years, name a White Sox player (not a pitcher) that throws left and bats right exclusively.
  7. Two things: 1) His name is Rickey. 2) Where is this coming from? Stealing bases and running the bases are two different things. Ozzie coached with Jeff Cox in Florida, and he knows what he brings to the table.
  8. Huh? Why would the Sox want him?
  9. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) Which Vazquez just got lit up for us? Please tell me it wasn't Javy. There's only one Vazquez on the team, and that's Javy. Carlos Vasquez was the pitcher that got lit up today.
  10. Masset and Floyd are the two players out of options.
  11. QUOTE(scenario @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 06:50 PM) But does he have to be optioned to start the year in Charlotte if he is not currently on the 25-man roster? I'm confused. The Sox have to get their 40-man down to 25 by March 30. If Masset doesn't make the team he'll be put on waivers, since he's out of minor league options.
  12. QUOTE(scenario @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 05:38 PM) Since Masset is out of options... Does that mean he can't start the season with Charlotte (unless he clears waivers)? Or does it mean that he could start the the season in Charlotte, but if called up, he couldn't be returned to AAA without clearing waivers? When does an option get used? It's to move a player from the 25-man to the minor league roster isn't it? And he's not on the 25-man now. It means Masset can't be optioned to the minors without being placed on waivers. If a team claims him, they can have 10 days to make a deal. If nobody claims him, then MAsset can asked to be released or go back to Charlotte, which is unlikely. I think he'll be traded.
  13. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 01:47 PM) Its sort of odd... Phillips and Ryan Smith are getting some good playing time at catcher. Lucy and Armstrong are the ones I thought would get that time, since if Hall is not viable, they would seem to be the frontrunners. Phillips was a strange pickup anyway, and Smith is just not someone that has been mentioned as any future prospect. I wonder what the reasoning there is. Pierzynski is facing Garland tomorrow, and they had a B game this morning, so maybe Lucy and/or Armstrong caught already today.
  14. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Mar 6, 2008 -> 11:50 AM) I love this horse s***. Rosenthal- "See this trade that isn't going to happen. I'm filling up space describing the details of this trade that won't happen. Pointing out the logical reasons why this not-trade isn't going to happen. You can't say I haven't written an article when you look at all of these words. Can't say I'm not filling up space in a column. The Mets with $16 million 1st baseman Delgado aren't going to trade for another $12 million first baseman. Words, words, writing, space fill, space fill, see I did my job." Outstanding.
  15. Swisher CF; Cabrera SS; Thome DH; Konerko, 1B; Dye, RF; Crede, 3B; Anderson, LF; Uribe, 2B; Phillips, C. Floyd was supposed to start but was scratched this morning due to flu-like symptoms. Charlie Haeger and Tomo Ohka will take up his innings.
  16. QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Mar 3, 2008 -> 12:17 PM) Are any ST games going to be on WGN? http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/spring_tra...le.jsp?c_id=cws
  17. Nice to see Alexei Ramirez get off to a fast start. It would be very cool if this guy can play now. I'd feel kinda sorry for Richar because I think he's a pretty good player, but if Ramirez has a great spring, I want him on the club. Another thing to watch for is Ramirez' ability at SS. I know I'm getting ahead of myself here, but if Ramirez can play a quality shortstop, and the Sox are out of it in July, then Orlando Cabrera would be a nice trading chip if it comes to that. It's not an ideal situation, but it would be nice to have that option.
  18. This news makes me happy. Floyd and Danks need to get the 30+ starts this year.
  19. QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Feb 23, 2008 -> 07:09 PM) Like I said, it isn't much of a waste of money if he goes on the DL. I'd rather spend 1-2.5 mil. on a hurt Colon than 4.5 on a playing Uribe. It's not about the money. It's that he'd be blocking someone. I want Floyd to get the chance from the beginning of the season. And I also like how the bullpen is setup with Wassermann, Logan, Thornton, MacDougal, Linebrink, Dotel, and Jenks.
  20. QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Feb 23, 2008 -> 06:58 PM) Why not? If the Sox can get him cheap, it's a win-win situation because if he doesn't pan out, so what, what's a couple million dollars down the drain. But if he does work out we add another veteran and proven pitcher to the rotation. I would like this deal if the price is right, say 1-2.5 million. Colon is washed up. 35 years old. 2+ years of on and off the DL, and sucking in between. Time to move on, and give Floyd and Danks 32 starts, and if someone goes down Broadway or Egbert are there to get the experience.
  21. I like how they have it setup with Buehrle, Vazquez, Danks, Contreras, Floyd. They're not big on skipping guys anyway, so it doesn't really matter what order they go. I don't want Bartolo Colon anywhere near this team.
  22. Best: Carlos Quentin---trading for him reminds me of another trade back in 1998. His name was Paul Konerko. Worst: I don't have one. I think KW made some really solid moves that not only improve the 2008 team, but will work out well for 2009 and 2010.
  23. If this rumor about Colon is true, I fully expect it to be a minor league deal, with an invite to camp.
  24. I can't imagine Anderson being with the Sox when position players report on the 21st. I think he gets traded before then.
  25. Could still be Coco Crisp. vs. Right Crisp-CF Cabrera-SS Thome-DH Konerko-1B Dye-RF Swisher-LF Fields-3B Pierzynski-C Richar-2B Bench--Quentin, Hall, Owens, Ramirez Ozuna? Why do they need him if Ramirez is the same player only younger and better? That could be interesting in spring training. Uribe and Crede will be traded. vs. Left Crisp-CF Cabrera-SS Swisher-LF Konerko-1B Dye-DH Fields-3B Quentin-RF Pierzynski-C Ramirez-2B Bench-Thome, Hall, Richar, Owens Thome has been awful against lefties. These are good games to sit him 80% of the time.
