  1. If Konerko ever gets into coaching, I bet it will be with a team out west. He's definitely not interested now, and I don't think he wants to be a White Sox inner circle cult member either.
  2. Remaining for 87-75 - Tor 4-6 Bal 5-5 Hou 6-4 Det 7-5 Sea 7-3 NY 8-3
  3. Matt Moore getting torched. The three teams will be tied with 10 games left.
  4. Mets lose. Inciarte robbed Cespedes of a 3-run homer that would have won it.
  5. Sale reached his career high in innings tonight. He would have to throw 17 innings with no earned runs to get his ERA to 2.99.
  6. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 21, 2016 -> 07:10 PM) Done awhile ago. I think Boston has the cy young man If Porcello had a bad start where his ERA went up, Britton blew a big game, and Sale ended up with an ERA under 3, he was alive for the award going into this game. Not now though.
  7. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Sep 21, 2016 -> 07:04 PM) RIP Cy Young. Not that he was likely to win, but this is the final nail in the coffin. Yep. 32 starts, 230 innings, and an ERA under 3 would have looked good, but that's done now.
  8. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Sep 21, 2016 -> 03:38 PM) Why throw the baby out with the bath water? Coop is the one clear-cut positive on the coaching staff right now. Even with a mid-season bullpen implosion, the Sox are (likely) going to still allow less than 700 runs this season. That's pretty impressive for a team with a disaster #5 starter, no reliable 7th inning reliever, no true LOOGY, and a closer having a below-average year. It's a gamble I hope they make. My hope is the new manager has a stronger grasp on what he wants to do with the pitching staff himself. If Cooper isn't calling the shots like he's used to, there could be some problems. We'll see what happens on October 3rd.
  9. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Sep 21, 2016 -> 03:29 PM) My guess is that it'd be Renteria. He has managerial experience, he knows the players, he knows the organization, he speaks Spanish, and my understanding is that the Cubs only parted ways with him because Maddon was available. I figured that was the reason they hired Renteria as bench coach in the first place. I'm not understanding the comments about Cooper. Does he want to leave, or is he rubbing the wrong people the wrong way? His results don't seem to be a problem. It's not like he's a bad pitching coach, but my feeling is if they're going to change the clubhouse and the leadership, start fresh. We all know Cooper is the manager of the pitching staff...and that could be a part of the current problem. Clean house. Start fresh.
  10. QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 21, 2016 -> 12:37 PM) Whoever they decide on, I really hope it's a full cleanse of the coaching staff. The message is stale and they need a lot of new life in there. Coop has run his course, teaching every pitcher a cutter isn't innovative. I haven't seem big improvement from any Sox pitchers in awhile. Agree there. I'm much more interested in what they'll do with Cooper than who the new manager is going to be. I have no idea how the next manager will be, and can already anticipate annoying posts about "this is what you wanted". But as far as Coop, he's had some successes, but it's time for a fresh start. I hope they have a brand new major league staff.
  11. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 21, 2016 -> 12:10 PM) Robin stays More fans leave.
  12. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 21, 2016 -> 11:57 AM) No matter how many people are in consideration, Sox fans will hate the move unless it's Dave Martinez. Including you?
  13. I think they'll hire an Hispanic that speaks Spanish. Hopefully someone with major league coaching or minor league managing experience to a 3-year deal. Who that is, I don't know and I don't care. I just hope they hire someone who fits in with what they're trying to accomplish over the next couple years, and are willing to fire them after three years if they're not good.
  14. If the Giants win tonight, looking like 3-way tie for two spots with 11 left: Giants- 1 at LA, 4 at SD, 3 vs Col, 3 vs LA Mets- 1 vs Atl, 4 vs Phi, 3 at Mia, 3 at Phi Cardinals- 1 at Col, 3 at Chi, 4 vs Cin, 3 vs Pit
  15. Funny how they finally got rid of Danks, and a month later they picked up 2-3 years of a worse pitcher.
  16. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 04:03 PM) Is it too much to ask for .500 ball in that area? When they were 23-10, I was hoping for 9-10 against all three. I wasn't getting greedy. Obviously, things went south fast.
  17. The Sox are 4-21 in the cities of Kansas City, Detroit, and Cleveland. 18-36 overall vs the three.
  18. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 11:03 AM) I seriously believe at the end of the day, they need to win one, get the celebration over with, and the STFU. I used to hate and root against them. I can now honestly say I am very indifferent while also respecting the ownership/management commitment to building long term success up and down the system. With that said, the best thing that can happen if/when they win one, is they either become like the Red Sox where the rest of the world finally realizes how annoying and douchey their broader fan base truly is, or they start another 108 year futility streak. Either way, something's gotta give. The constant agony, wait 'til next year, it's gonna happen, flythew, Bartman, 1969, etc. stuff has to end. Please! Couldn't say it any better than this.
  19. Rodon vs Ventura Eaton, Anderson, Cabrera, Abreu, Morneau, Frazier, Garcia, Narvaez, Sanchez Burns, Merrifield, Hosmer, Morales, Orlando, Gordon, Escobar, Colon, Butera Good day for a brawl.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 18, 2016 -> 05:39 PM) Would still be shocked if they gave it to a Baltimore reliever when they could vote for a Red Sox starter...the bar is just so high for relievers since they have their own separate award, or at least they used to. It's two voters from each AL city picking top 5 pitchers. It's going to be a big mix of different ballots, but if Britton has a perfect season with an ERA under 1, it would be tough not to place him high on most ballots.
  21. Indians magic number is 7. Tigers play the Twins and Royals this week. Indians have the Royals and White Sox. I'd rather see the Indians clinch after the Sox are out of there.
