  1. 6 shutout innings for Fulmer tonight.
  2. When Smith and Minaya played Thursday, they were the 25th and 26th players to play their first game with the White Sox this year. 26 new players matches 1995, the year the strike ended and they were patchwork all season. Zack Burdi...we need you to break a record. BTW...on average, the Sox add 16-17 new players each year. The last five years, they're above 20, which makes sense considering how many bullpen pitchers straddle AAA and the majors nowadays.
  3. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 02:18 PM) I wouldn't rule out a protected 1st round pick just yet. Still a lot of divisional games to play in September and 2 games in Philly. They'll come home that last week of the season vs Rays and Twins and go 6-1. 11 or 12 seems 90% at this point.
  4. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 11:10 AM) We kind of have. The 99 games played since the 23-10 start, which is a pretty decent sample size, shows the Sox playing (or losing, depending on how you look at it) at a 2013-esque level. In fact, I don't know if it's still true or not, but somewhere in the last week or so I saw a report that said the Sox had the worst record in baseball since the 23-10 start - and this with not one but two Cy Young candidates in the starting rotation! That in and of itself tells you how awful the rest of the team is at the moment! http://www.baseball-reference.com/games/st...date=2016-05-09 Records on the far right since 23-10. Pretty bad.
  5. Interleague AL 152 NL 122 DH in both leagues please.
  6. Collins knows the strike zone. http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20160831
  7. Never is a long time, but today could be the last day Robin Ventura is ever in the state of Michigan.
  8. Sale vs Verlander No Cabreras today. https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/771024370726764544 https://twitter.com/tigers/status/770989074752516097
  9. I just looked at the ESPN Cy Predictor. I kid you not, they have David Robertson at number 10. Q of course, no where to be seen. They can shut that feature down right now.
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 31, 2016 -> 10:51 AM) Q is going to finish like 37th in the CY Young race guys. He has 6 starts left, and while he's not going to win it, maybe a 15-10 record, 215 innings, and an ERA under 3 would stand out for a top 5. But there's a long way to go for that.
  11. Great years for both, but I'd take Q higher in Cy voting. Some numbers: Sale 25 starts 177.2 innings. 3.14 ERA, 18 quality starts, 17 starts of 7+ innings and 3 runs or fewer, 5 complete games Quintana 26 starts 172.1 innings. 2.77 ERA, 20 quality starts, 12 starts of 7+ innings and 3 runs or fewer, 0 complete games vs Cleveland, Detroit, and Kansas City Sale 4-9 vs Cle 7.0, 3 5-24 vs Cle 3.1 6 5-29 at KC 7.0 2 6-4 at Det 6.1, 4 6-10 vs KC 6.0, 5 6-15 vs Det 7.0, 3 7-23 vs Det Suspended, DNP 8-3 at Det 8.0, 2 8-9 at KC 7.0, 3 5/8 quality starts 51.2 innings 4.88 ERA Quintana 5-20 vs KC 6.1, 4 5-25 vs Cle 6.0, 3 6-5 at Det 4.2, 5 6-11 vs KC 8.0, 3 6-17 at Cle 7.2, 2 7-24 vs Det 6.2, 0 8-4 at Det 7.1, 3 8-10 at KC 7.1, 1 8-16 at Cle 6.0, 2 7/9 quality starts 60.0 innings 3.45 ERA What's left: Sale: 8-31 at Det 9-5 vs Det 9-11 vs KC 9-16 at KC 9-21 at Phi 9-27 vs TB 10-2 vs Min Quintana: 9-1 at Min 9-6 vs Det 9-12 vs Cle 9-17 at KC 9-23 at Cle 9-28 vs TB If Sale wants to make up for being a baby on July 23, he should pitch on the last day of the season vs the Twins and make his 32nd start.
  12. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 30, 2016 -> 03:38 PM) Anyone else that hasn't played on the Sox. If they hire Dave Martinez or Sandy Alomar, I won't complain.
  13. This is potentially a frustrating loss for the Tigers, which is cool.
  14. QUOTE (Scoots @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 01:31 PM) http://www.csnchicago.com/video/morneau-we...pable-going-run This is an interview with Morneau and Saladino. Something Morneau said that caught my attention: " I've been on a team where we were 8 games back and made the playoffs, Shields said he was on a team where they were 10 games back on September 1st and they still made it." If the Sox continue to play like they have been against their division in September, and the right teams lose games, then it is possible, but it's a long shot. Sustained success has not exactly been the Sox' forte. I will say this, if they complete an extremely unlikely sweep of Detroit this week (which means they will need a lot of offense with Shields and Raunado pitching), I would seriously consider them a candidate for the 2nd wildcard spot. As I pointed out in the 2nd Wildcard thread, every team in baseball is playing 8 of the last 10 series inside the division. So when the Indians are losing, that means the Tigers and Royals are winning. If it were only the Indians in front of the Sox, crazy stuff could happen...but that won't be happening. It would take the Sox going 23-10 (again) starting tonight to finish 86-76, and also need help for a tie. Less than 1% shot. (save the dumb and dumber line).
  15. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 12:30 PM) The Union will not agree with you. I didn't say it has to be a stringent 25 man roster at all times. There are creative things they can do throughout the season that gives more opportunities for young players. I'm just saying it should be consistent the entire season. There are too many important games the last month to have 11-man bullpens, and 6- and 7-man rotations. They need to play the season out to the very end.
  16. Every team in baseball now plays 8 of their final 10 series in the division. Remaining records to end up at 86-76: Bal 15-17 Det 17-15 Hou 18-14 Sea 18-14 KC 18-14 NY 19-14 Sox 23-10 23-10. Looks familiar. Won't happen, but the 2nd wildcard should be interesting. It really is a race to 88 wins, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Royals win it. They are 34-17 in the division, and play a ton at home...a great combination for them.
  17. Dream On was awesome. Who could forget Bagel Girl? But yes, Sopranos.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2016 -> 07:37 PM) So really, Fulmer probably does need to be here. Hopefully he gets some starts in September. If they want to shut down Shields, I guess that's fine. But on a separate topic, I hope the next CBA addresses how rosters are used throughout the season, and the term "September Call Up" ceases to exist. There are 18 teams alive with 5 weeks left, and it's an absolute joke that rosters expand the final 32 days this year. The season needs to be the season from Day 1 to Day 183.
  19. Remember that game in KC?...says everyone at the game.
  20. Neither one will win it probably, but as of now, putting Sale higher on the ballot than Quintana is a mistake. Pretty sad they have two pitchers of this quality, and they're a bottom 5 team in the AL.
