5/24 Sox vs Twins
If they want to make a statement with a veteran player, Flowers should be the guy. He's garbage, and if the pitchers say they'll miss him, tough s***.

Irreconcilable Differences
2005 was a great thing, but if you're still riding the wave off that, then you're a better person than me. Baseball in wild card era is about sustained success, and hope you win the postseason tournament. That said, I'm a Sox fan. Always have been, always will be. I just want them to be better at baseball and have some players that you get behind, win or lose.

What a putrid offense...
QUOTE (dpd9189 @ May 24, 2015 -> 10:37 AM) I haven't given up either on this year but the Sox are one more bad stretch from being double digits out of 1st place. Not too many teams recover from that. Don't even pay attention to that. The Sox are in the American League Wildcard Division. For now, they're chasing 88 wins, and nothing more.

5/23 Games
Even with a good spring training, if you would have told me Hawkins would be at .167 on May 24, I would have believed it. For him to be at .267, with a .335 OBP, is damn good. And hopefully he'll just progress from here.

Irreconcilable Differences
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2015 -> 09:59 AM) Yeah reading the posts in this thread, I don't know where anyone would get the words "fickle" and "bandwagon" from when talking about the White Sox fan base. I hope you all enjoy your next team. Whatever. Fix the title with irreconcilable spelled right.

Irreconcilable Differences
QUOTE (Tex @ May 24, 2015 -> 08:50 AM) Historical perspective. When some of us here started following the team in the mid 1970s the last playoff appearance was in 1959, prior to that 1919 (which was a scandal). The next playoff appearance wouldn't be until 1983. That was a 24 year gap. Yet the team was there, it survived just fine. Since then the about once a decade there is a post season appearance. After 1983 was 1993, being swept in 2000, and finally 2005 and 2008. The past 15 years has been the greatest period of White Sox baseball in the team's history. And people want to switch teams. Put away the red Sox and Yankee gear and come on back every ten years or so when the team is winning. 1951-1967, they didn't have a losing season. It was a different time with different expectations, so I guess it depends on your definition of greatest. 2005 was great, but in the wildcard era of 1995-2014, to only have three playoff appearances in generally a bad division, in the biggest market, isn't good enough.

What a putrid offense...
LaRoche is a notorious slow starter, so maybe he'll end up ok and be a big part of second half bounce back. The biggest difference between LaRoche and Dunn are the years. After one year of Dunn, the thought of three more years was more scary. We don't even know what LaRoche will be this year, and even if it sucks, there's only one more year.

At the quarter pole, on pace for less than 600 runs. Yay.

Irreconcilable Differences
A couple things... Baseball should be put in perspective of life...duh. I think most people know that. But here's the thing...if your sports fandom is a big part of your life, you're not alone. That's why the American sports are so popular, and why grown humans buy jerseys and hats and care who is drafted, and why you have opinions on what trades should be made, and which free agents they should sign. No, you shouldn't lose sleep over the White Sox. But dammit, don't be ashamed to voice your opinion and want YOUR team to be better. That's part of being a passionate fan.

PK number retirement game 5/23 almost sold out
I wonder if the living Sox with retired numbers will be there...besides Baines. Pierce has been ill, I think I've heard. But it would be cool to see Aparicio, Fisk, and Thomas.

I was wrong about the Houston Astros, it seems
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 23, 2015 -> 09:33 AM) Well, they were supposed to face the Cubs in the 2017 World Series according to SI.com. Seems plausible.

Hopefully with the six games the Sox have against them in the next few weeks, they'll be cooling off just in time.

GAMETHREAD - 5/23 - Twins @ White Sox
Hopefully an early lead, Sale is on, and the shadows are bad for the Twins hitters late in the game. Go Sox!

Surkamp to LA Dodgers
QUOTE (hi8is @ May 22, 2015 -> 09:49 PM) The dude didn't get a hit in all of 2014. That's gotta be some sort of record or something. 3 plate appearances is a pretty small sample size. He's a pitcher.

GAMETHREAD - 5/22 - Twins @ White Sox - 7:10pm CT
Nice job by Shark and the bench guys.

Gotta find a way to win this game. No excuses.

5/22 Games
Guerrero 5 innings of 1-hit. Probably close to promotion time.
-
Surkamp to LA Dodgers
Sox acquire RHP Blake Smith. Another former hitter. https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/601901549724413952 http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/p...id=smith-002bla

Surkamp to LA Dodgers
