  1. http://espn.go.com/mlb/standings/_/group/9/sort/winPercent 8th worst record, but same amount of losses as the Reds and Phillies. The Padres would have to lose four more games than the Sox over the last 8 games for the Sox to fall out of the 10 worst. So the protected pick is looking safe unless something crazy happens. Also, quite a race for the first pick: Texas and Arizona have 93 losses, and Colorado has 91. Draft lottery, please. Make a TV show out of it.
  2. Outs please.
  3. Assuming a Royals loss in the suspended game: A's 84-70 Mariners 83-71 Royals 83-71 Remaining schedules: A's- 1 vs Phillies, 3 vs Angels, 4 at Rangers Mariners- 1 at Astros, 4 at Blue Jays, 3 vs Angels Royals- 1 vs Tigers, 3 at Indians, 4 at White Sox I hope they all end at 88-74. More baseball.
  4. Jerome Williams has 6 wins this season. 3 of them against the A's. He got those 3 wins with 3 different teams...Astros, Rangers, and Phillies
  5. Tigers beat the Royals again. If KC loses the suspended game (which they should), the Tigers magic number is 6. So it looks like we're down to 2 out of 3 of the A's, Mariners, and Royals. Sox could spoil next weekend.
  6. Maybe they can do something different with protected picks the next CBA, but my overall feeling is that no one game at the end of the season should impact draft order. I'm watching these games hoping the Sox lose. Dan Hayes is writing articles saying it would be good for the Sox if they lose. And just because of the system, it's perfectly ok to want the Sox to lose these last 9 games. But for MLB, the best thing to do would be to take the focus off getting in the 10 worst for an advantage, and just build in some rules to the draft so teams and fans don't have to think about the ramifications of a win or loss at the end of the season.
  7. In this era of more focus on draft picks, protected picks, tanking seasons for top picks, and having September call ups determining draft order, I think MLB should go to a Draft Lottery and do it at the Winter Meetings. Some rules: - the 20 teams that don't qualify for the postseason go in the lottery. - no team can be in the Top 3 in consecutive years. If you're 1, the following year the highest you can be is 6. If you're 2, the highest you can be the next year is 5. If you're 3, the highest you can be the next year is 4. - You're only allowed to have the number 1 pick once every 10 years. - The wildcard game losers get the 21st and 22nd picks - The DS losers pick 23-26 - The CS losers pick 27-28 - The WS loser picks 29
  8. Great job by Quintana. Needs 7 innings next week for 200. And he'll finish leading the staff in games started for the second year in a row.
  9. Buehrle got 6 more innings last night, and of course the Yankees beat him. One start left next Wed vs the Mariners to get 6 more innings for 200. 12-10, 3.53. It really did end up being a typical season. But the Jays were 20-11 in his starts, so that's what you want.
  10. http://espn.go.com/mlb/standings/_/group/9/sort/winPercent 9th worst record, and same amount of losses as the Reds. On the protected pick...the Sox have to have one of 10 worst records regardless of the Aiken situation? Is that correct?
  11. https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/5130451...4614018/photo/1 Paulie giving it a go.
  12. Paulie starting tonight, and playing first.
  13. Cubs scored 3 in the first off Kershaw? That's unpossible. Edwin Jackson didn't make it out of the first. What a terrible pitcher.
  14. Cubs leaving Kane County for South Bend. Wish the Sox had a nearby affiliate, but I know they like having the full season teams near each other.
  15. 3-6 the next 9, and hope the last day of the season doesn't matter. That's what I'd like to see.
  16. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 10:22 PM) I don't know why the studs are playing every day. Eaton's been on the DL 3 times - so why play him every day? They need to look at young players. yet Robin wheels Alexei out there every day, when we could be evaluating a Semien, Sanchez duo. Frankly Alexei should have been traded in July, but this organization still overreacts to the White Flag PR hit they took. It has also become ridiculously sentimental to players, including non-icons like Alexei (and Ventura). This is major league baseball in September...not spring training. The Royals, Tigers and Mariners are playing for two spots so teams owe it to baseball to play their best to the end. Also Sale should start Tuesday and Sunday (if it matters to the race) next week. You can't start Chris Bassitt or Scott Carroll on the last day of the season if it means something.
  17. If the Tigers lose tonight and you assume the Royals will lose their suspended game...If the Royals win 2 of 3 from the Tigers this weekend, they'll be tied with 7 games left....and the Sox will be involved all week.
  18. Snodgress--the Andy Wilkins of pitchers
  19. Cleto is a human channel changer.
  20. https://twitter.com/CSNHayes/status/512360115060498433 Carroll not ready to start yet.
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 03:44 PM) I sure hope that Sale is able to deliver a superb performance and get his ERA lower as well as get a win. He will be in contention for the Cy Young Felix Hernandez is making 33 or 34 starts. Chris Sale is making 26 or 27 starts. The difference in ERA and team position isn't going to be good enough for Sale to win it. Hopefully over the next five years, Sale will be on winning teams and he'll make 160 starts. He'll have hardware then.
  22. https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/5123372...4786432/photo/1 Who's ready for another 4 hour game?! This one could actually be twice as fast as last night.
  23. Memba when batting average mattered? 9 AL batters are hitting over .300, and two of them are Abreu and Eaton. Gillaspie still 10th at .293. Abreu and Eaton are 5th and 10th in OBP.
  24. And here is the man we've been waiting for for 4 hours and 17 minutes.
  25. Wilkins is going to be a guy you forget in about two years. "Oh yeah, that guy that came up after Dunn was traded."
