  1. Some pictures of the Charlotte park. Wonder if a facility like that could be converted into a major league stadium. http://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/gallery/16801
  2. If Buehrle is on, I'll watch. For guys like Rios and Peavy and Quentin, I immediately forgot they were here as soon as they were gone. Really, Buehrle is the only former Sox that I care to watch and root for future success. As far as trades, as long as the players coming back to the Sox do well, I don't care about the ones traded that do well. It's good for the Sox if both sides get value.
  3. No day games on the second day of the season. I'm going to guess that's a first.
  4. Here's that story on Abreu that Fox did...pretty cool. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8R7sJ_vjAV8...m:FoxSportsLive
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 10:07 AM) Did they do it last year out of desire or necessity? Frankly, you have to figure you are going to get 60% per game compared to the usual game. If you draw a full capacity crowd? Sure it's OK. How many people actually buy tickets to go to a double header and want to stay at (or near) the park for 10 hours? I think I'd put that number at 10-15K at the very most, and I think that's stretching it. If you draw 20K, you lose. If you're at 30K, you are starting to push it. You really need to draw 35-40K to make running a scheduled double header worth it. I think it was Friday, June 28 last year. I don't think there was something going on that they had to start at 4pm instead of two separate gates that start at noon or 1. I think the D-backs did a 2 for 1 last year. Also, the players prefer a straight DH over a split, for obvious reasons. Anyway, just a thought. Bottom line, they'd make more money in August and September if they played day/night or a straight DH over what they're going to get the next two days.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 09:31 AM) 2 for 1s are bad for business. Depends on the team. It would be dumb for team that draws 3 mil to do it. For a team like the White Sox, it could be a good marketing move with 5 months of notice. And again, they did it last year, so there is a precedent.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 08:57 AM) I think they would rather play them now. Doubleheaders tax your pitching staff. That's why they added the extra player for doubleheaders. Plus in September, the rosters are expanded--which I don't like, but that's another topic. You're right though, in a perfect world they don't want them, but with this weather coming, just call it off...especially since the Twins are coming back twice.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 08:28 AM) Of course, there's also a downside risk that both teams could fall 20 games back and the game would never be made up. Well yeah, if they got rained out in September. Probably would be a risk worth taking. Remember last year, they made one of their doubleheaders a 2 for 1. They could do that for September 12, and they probably would get some good advanced sales.
  9. Since "Opening Week" is about to get terrible weather, wouldn't it be a good business move just to postpone the next two games now, and have doubleheaders in August and September? It's a division team. Do it.
  10. Don Baylor caught the first pitch from Vlad Guerrero, twisted his knee and had to helped off the field. Go Angels. http://www.mobypicture.com/user/henry_bouldin/view/16728111

    2014 TV thread

The last season was way too chick flicky. Over the top.
  12. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Mar 31, 2014 -> 05:49 PM) Yes, sir!
  13. QUOTE (Baron @ Mar 31, 2014 -> 05:44 PM) Doing that is stupid in the first place No, I'm still glad the Sox are picking before the Cubs. This year, I'd gladly see them finish with the 14th or 15th pick.
  14. Goddammit, I don't want to root for the Sox to lose for three months again!
  15. I swear to Christ, Lincecum better not blow this save.
  16. Yes, Hawk. When you play four teams 45% of the time, those teams will come back on you more than anyone.
  17. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Mar 31, 2014 -> 05:14 PM) Robin usually leaves guys in for a batter or two too long. Aces should do Ace things. I have no problem with it. I will say, Robin has a pattern of wanting the pitcher to get an ovation. (Or Coop does)
  18. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 31, 2014 -> 05:10 PM) Hawk and Stone have been quality for once together today. How long until they are sick of each other? First 3-game losing streak?
  19. Eaton is an old soul baseball player. Any era player.
  20. Tommy Hunter is the Orioles closer, and he's trying to blow his first save opportunity. I'd really like to see the Red Sox lose.
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 31, 2014 -> 04:49 PM) De Aza = Bryce Harper. There you go. Just based on having quality at-bats in spring, De Aza deserved it today. I'll put that in the "Good Move" column for Ventura.
  22. Back-to-back years on opening day, somebody hits two homers off Nolasco.
