  1. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 23, 2013 -> 11:05 PM) Dodger announcers say attendance tonight is a Cactus League record. 13,721
  2. Sox traded Justin Greene to Arizona for cash.
  3. Lineups: http://baseballpress.com/lineup.php Rios scratched with back stiffness.
  4. Here's how I'm looking at this season --- 89 wins or bust and ignore the Tigers until July 9, since the Sox don't play them until then. Break down of each season series for 89 wins: Cle 11-8 Det 9-10 KC 11-8 Min 12-7 Bal 4-3 Bos 3-3 NY 3-3 TB 3-4 Tor 4-3 Hou 5-2 LAA 4-3 Oak 3-4 Sea 4-2 Tex 3-3 Cubs 2-2 Mets 2-2 Was 1-2 Phi 1-2 Atl 2-1 Mia 2-1 Record on key dates: April 28: 15-11 May 30: 31-23 June 30: 47-35 July 8: 50 wins before playing the Tigers August 1: 60-48 September 1: 76-60 September 29: 89-73
  5. Sox acquire utility guy Cody Puckett from the Reds for cash. Mostly a 2B.
  6. Opening Day high temp at 59 right now.
  7. Danks will pitch Sunday in a minor league game.
  8. Royals have announced their first starters. Looks like the first series will be: Sale vs Shields Peavy vs Santana Floyd vs Guthrie Chen still hasn't been named 5th starter, believe it or not.
  9. Jordan Danks and Tekotte sent down to Charlotte. 34 left.
  10. Looks like Ventura said they'll go Sale, Peavy, Floyd, Quintana, 5th guy Axelrod may be facing Felix Hernandez to start his season.
  11. Sox win 8-3. 7 good innings from Sale. This will be his last long start until Opening Day, where he'll go 9 innings on 85 pitches. Sox 11-10 and some ties. 6 left.
  12. I beleive this is the last Melton game. That's a good thing.
  13. Watch out for the guy with the nose ring. Congrats.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 21, 2013 -> 12:03 PM) He's effective when healthy, but this is a reminder as to why you don't sign relievers to long and even medium length contracts. Unless 2007 happens. Then you sign Scott Linebrink for four years.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2013 -> 08:46 AM) The game is on webcast today... not that anyone will really be watching. Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 5m CWS 3/21 pitchers: Sale, Veal, Reed, Thornton CWS 3/21: De Aza 8, Keppinger 5, Rios 9, Dunn DH, Konerko 3, Viciedo 7, Ramirez 6, Gimenez 2, Beckham 4. Raises hand slowly.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2013 -> 10:57 AM) Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 5m Sources: Hanley needs surgery on his right thumb. #Dodgers. WBC. Glad De Aza and Rios made it back in one piece,
  17. It's almost like they're going with Axelrod because then it avoids a tougher decision when Danks is ready. Meaning, if Santiago is really good as a starter, then they have to make a tough call on Quintana if he has a couple bad starts. This way, Santiago stays in the pen, and the good soldier Axelrod makes a few starts, and goes to Charlotte.
  18. Looks like the Sox are making it known John Danks will start the season on the DL. Still down to Santiago or Axelrod for 5th starter. I think Omogrosso and Troncoso are in competition for the bullpen still if Santiago makes it as the 5th starter. Doesn't necessarily mean Axelrod goes to the pen, or a 3rd lefty. edit: Axelrod most likely 5th starter
  19. Sox lose 4-2. Fly to Chicago a week from now.
  20. Coop on Danks http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,6050154.story
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 09:03 AM) You are obviously wrong, John Danks is ruined forever, and it's the worst contract in the history of the entire planet. I'm in the middle on this... Should we be patient with Danks coming back from this? Yes. Absolutely. Should we be a little afraid the Sox gave 5 years/65 mil to a guy that may never be an above average major league starter again? Hell yes. I'm not saying it was a bad deal at the time. It would just be unfortunate if the Sox don't get the value back for that investment.
  22. As long as Danks keeps moving forward, and stays here when he gets here---and puts up quality starts, they should take all the time they need for him to get ready. There's no point in just saying "close enough", and have him start the season in the rotation.
