  1. B game at 11am. Regular game at 2. Lineups: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,6001232.story Neal Cotts will get an inning for the Rangers this afternoon.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 09:06 AM) Interesting. This team has so many question marks, and so many holes... and yet, I've never seen a Sox team coming off a season where so many of its players performed below their averages. Most of them, really. And I've gotta think that the odds are, some significant number of those are likely to improve. With Ozzie and Buehrle leaving, and trading Santos and Quentin, I think there's a lot of "piling on" by the media. They assume that a mediocre team with some players that had bad years in 2011, just got worse--and on top of it, hired a guy that has never managed. I don't think it's as simple as that to declare the 2012 a lost cause. Could they suck? Sure. Could they surprise? Absolutely. There's just too many stat geeks and snarky jagweeds that want to figure out what's going to happen in baseball before it happens, and state it as fact in February and March. For now, I'm treating this season, as a fan, that they can compete. If/when they prove they can't, fine, make some more trades and don't make the situation worse.
  3. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 06:49 PM) Sorry to spoil that comparison, but it's not just the Sox team you should compare, but the division itself. And there was no 2012 Tigers in that 2005 division. I'll agree to an extent. The 05 Indians did win 93 games. Just on paper, it looks like the big winners will be Tigers, Rangers, Angels, Yankees, Red Sox, Rays, with the Blue Jays, White Sox, and Royals as possible surprises. There's only so many wins to go around the league. For the Sox to win this year, they'll need every thing to go right, and maybe Verlander to get hurt.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 03:51 PM) Scott Merkin ‏ @scottmerkin I realize it's only Spring Training, but those who have written off Jared Mitchell look a bit too quick to judge. He's healthy now Time will tell. Go to Birmingham, play 130 games, and we'll talk.
  5. Stewart throws to first. Nobody covering. Fun stuff. Stewart sucks.
  6. I'd rather they stick with the current group, and make Reed the closer. But if they could get a haul for Thornton right now, I couldn't blame them for doing it. I just don't know what kind of message that would be sending the team now that they're already in camp.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 09:27 AM) This is only the first step towards continued expansion of the playoffs. We'll see more teams and more rounds, I am sure. I'm going to say this new format will stick for decades, not just years. I think players and teams both recognize that you can't just let every over-.500 team in the playoffs. What's great about the new format is that it gives hope to the teams straddling the .500 mark at the break that they can make a run at the final spot at the very least. Once they get the fans in the door for that chase, their work is done whether they win it or not. The one thing they could do is go to four divisions and 8 wild cards, and give the division winners a bye, but since the players are against sitting for 4-6 days, I just don't see it happening any time soon.
  8. QUOTE (kev211 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 08:55 PM) What happens if teams 5-8 finish tied? I would hope there's a tie-breaker system where they seed them 5 through 8. Day after season ends--8 at 5; 7 at 6 Winners play the next day. Bring it on.
  9. Humber - 530,000 Beckham - 520,000 Lillibridge and Sale - 500,000
  10. Marlins facing "The U" tonight at the new park. Buehrle 3IP, 4 hits, 3 runs, 3 k's Alex Fernandez, Jr. pitching for U of Miami. I feel so old.
  11. Single for Mitchell. Sox lose 6-2 Danks vs Holland a month from today.
  12. Walk and steal for Trayce Thompson. We need this guy to be a top 50 prospect a year from now.
  13. Others scheduled to pitch: Omogrosso, Thornton, Veal, Petricka, Jones, and Carter
  14. De Aza, Beckham, Dunn, Viciedo, Fukudome, Flowers, Gallagher, Lillibridge, Escobar Danks starts. Pujols DHing, batting 3rd. Televised 1am on MLBN.
  15. Dan Johnson with a long 2-run homer. 6-4 LA Final
  16. Looks like Jordan Danks has filled out a little more. Not that it helps you make contact...
  17. Molina--spit out the gum. Big league pitchers don't chew gum.
  18. I'm glad Molina looks less than great. Don't want them getting any stupid ideas about him being in the bullpen. He'll be at AA this year, hopefully getting 27 starts.
  19. James Looney Jeff Mantos Vici -AH-do Melton in mid-season form. Beckham garbage at-bats, but the Sox break camp 4 weeks from now. Plenty o' time.
