QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 01:02 PM) I still haven't backed off my thoughts the 2012 Sox could be a 95 loss team. That may happen if: Dunn, Rios, and Beckham repeat 2011. Peavy makes 15 starts. Team sucks in first half and they trade Floyd, Thornton, and Crain in July. For now, I'm optimistic until they give me a concrete reason not to be.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread

Fox Sports poll question today...http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb Which team will finish with the worst record in 2012? 6 choices: Astros A's Mariners Mets White Sox Another team If I were to list 5 teams, I'd go with the Twins, Orioles, Cubs, and Padres before I get to the Sox for this question. -
QUOTE (PorkChopExpress @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 11:26 AM) Or he gets traded. Rumor was he was the most sought after player during the winter meetings. I agree, Lillibridge may get back a decent minor leaguer right now, plus a bench of Fukudome, Martinez, Johnson, and Flowers covers the field and both sides of the plate pretty well.

At that price, can't complain. Plus it's pretty good insurance if De Aza is a bust.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 13, 2012 -> 01:27 PM) Oh funnn!!!!! Keenyn Walker @Keenyn_Walker What is wrong with my hip?! Damn it hurts. Can barely even move Wonder how long it takes for a White Sox official to read this and call him? How does it help a player to tweet stuff like this?

2012 Cuban signees thread Cespedes/Soler/Concepcion
flavum replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm glad he didn't sign with the Sox. I'm glad he didn't sign with the Cubs. -
I highly doubt this guy was invited to major league camp. I think he was just reporting to minor league camp on March 8.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 05:09 PM) Two wildcards is one of the dumber ideas in modern baseball history. I pray it doesn't happen. Too late for that, since it's already going to happen for sure in 2013. Over the long run, it's not going to matter. The second wildcard is going to have a better record than the worse division winner many times, and this new format will put a huge premium on winning your division. Two teams from the same division in the mid-to-high 90's wins can't just coast in September knowing they have one of the four playoff spots either way. There are things about it that I don't like. It sets up a lot of unfairness when it comes to seeding, but I think overall it's going to work in the favor of MLB. It's 33% of the teams that have a chance, and will the loser of the Wildcard Game actually be considered a playoff team? Not really. It's win your division, and a few days later, it's the same format we have now anyway. I do wish they would hold off until 2013, when it's a flat 5 of 15 in each league.

Can we get away with a bench of Johnson, Flowers, Lillibridge, and Martinez?

QUOTE (IowanSoxFan @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 02:02 PM) Should be. Of course. Let's put it this way...if any Yankees player hit 500 homers without a sniff of PED talk in a Yankees uniform would he get in? Of course. Add to it the leadership of Konerko and an ALCS MVP, he'd get it. 4 more seasons averaging 28 homers will get him to 500 in a Sox uniform. That is, if he signed an extension after 2013. I hope it happens.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 30, 2012 -> 11:43 AM) jaysonst Jayson Stark Boy, Victor Martinez is in for a long haul. Needed microfracture & meniscus surgery. Won't be ready to have his ACL repaired for 6-8 weeks. So much for him being back in September. I thought for sure he'd magically heal by then. Did they ever report how he injured himself?

QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jan 28, 2012 -> 12:59 PM) I think people who are Sox fans should lay off because he isn't going anywhere and booing will not help him figure it out. Just from a selfish standpoint, the Sox may be better if fans give him a clean slate for a new year just like RV plans to do. If there was something private going on that contributed to the issues last year, then all the more reason to treat him with human compassion. Agreed. Hopefully spring training reports will bring fans some positivity. I think Ozzie's mark on the team has left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. This isn't life and death. It's baseball. And every year is its own thing. Player by player on this team has performed in the majors at some point in their career. Until they give me a reason to think they can't be a surprising team, I'm not going to bash guys. I'm just going to enjoy it because it's Sox baseball, and we'll see how the first couple months go, and go from there. But if they start 8-19, then we have to push up that two month thing...

I think Danks will bounce back, and then some. We need him to go into the season thinking 34 starts and 230 innings.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 27, 2012 -> 06:55 PM) Have the Sox acquired a major league player this offseason? As far as the 40-man roster, they've basically traded: Buehrle, Vizquel, Pierre, Castro, Santos, Quentin, and Frasor for pitchers: Donnie Veal, Jose Quintana, Deunte Heath, Charlie Leesman, Nestor Molina, Simon Castro, and Pedro Hernandez oh and they got Ozzie Martinez and Jhan Marinez at the end of the season for Guillen. -

Larry Dobrow has his Power Rankings out today. Sox at 25 right now. We should be so lucky. I'd probably put the Sox at 18-20 or so. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/story/1700912...on-out-in-style -
Not worth its own thread, so I'll ask here... Did anyone else sign up for MLBTR text alerts about a month ago, and did they stop coming? I didn't see anything about them discontinuing them.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 10:37 PM) Shameless Justified Alcatraz Southland Parks & Rec Breaking Bad Touch Mad Men I'm looking for a new show to keep me occupied now that I'm all done with Dexter. What should I go with? Get caught up with Mad Men now before the season starts on March 25, and then go Breaking Bad later on this year when they come back.

If Ventura is bad as a manager, that just reflects on Kenny even more. It's all Kenny for me, unless Rios just dogs it again. But enough negativity. If you can't get excited about a new season in January, even if you think the team won't make the playoffs, then you may want to lighten up a little.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 11:22 AM) BNightengale Bob Nightengale Fielder deal pays $23 mill in 2012-2013,$24 mill year for rest of contract. Also pays min $100k yr by finishing top 10 MVP,$500k for 1st#MLB I laugh at the bonuses for the guys that make that much money. If you make that much, aren't you supposed to up there in the MVP every year?

Prospect lists generally are just good entertainment. Here's the list from 5 years ago...some great players...lotta busts. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...007/263445.html Actually, it's not a bad list. Most of those guys are contributing players, if not stars. Brandon Wood stands out though. Never lived up to the hype.
