My patience is running out with KW
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 11:02 AM) I already broke down AJ and PK for you. You are not getting any Top 100 names for either. AJ gets you nothing at all, if you can even move him. PK, if you eat a bunch of salary, might get you a couple decent prospects. Crain and Ohman get you nothing because they are basically paid at-value or above. Danks just got signed to a long term deal, at-value or so, so he gets you maybe one decent prospect. Beckham has been a huge disappointment and you would be selling low, getting not much in return, which would be idiotic. Floyd and Thorton are the only two you suggest that make some sense, and for the two combined, you might, maybe, get one Molina-like spect, but probably not even that. So you trade all those guys, you eat half the salary in the group, and you get back one or two 75-125 overall level prospects, and a handful of ones below that. And oh by the way, you no longer have any core to the team to build around whatsoever, and have massive holes to fill this year and in the future, so you end up re-spending the money you saved anyway. Sounds awesome. Good breakdown of the situation. The Sox are in a position just to play it out and hope they catch lightning in a bottle the first few months of the season. If not, then they'll have a few pieces to move in July, and then some contracts start expiring at the end of the season. This "rebuild" is a multi-year process. The key is to stop making stupid baseball decisions. Kenny should have been let go after last season, but there's not much he can do right now as an overnight fix.

Congrats to Barry Larkin, Hall of Fame 2012
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 02:23 PM) 4 championships. (for Morris) Correct. He wasn't on the playoff roster in 93.

Congrats to Barry Larkin, Hall of Fame 2012
I can't believe more than half of the voters still think Raines isn't a HOF. It took me a while to come around on him too, but he belongs. Jack Morris...I don't need stats on him. He belongs. Multiple 20-win seasons, 175 complete games, 3 championships with three different teams, including winning Game 7 of the 91 series. Now with the beefy ballots coming on the next couple years, it will be interesting to see if he goes over the hump next year.

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 09:48 AM) They would have to pick up all of his contract for 2012 to claim him. Not gonna happen. Well, yeah...it would be on the Jays to pick up most of it if they made a deal. I'm just saying, as a player, Teahen would be a good fit right now as the Sox don't have a backup 3B.

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
Blue Jays DFA Mark Teahen. I have to admit, if he never played for the Sox in the past, I'd say he's a perfect fit now. Sox need a 3B/1B lefty bat with some pop.

2012 bullpen
QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 11:42 PM) Ahh, thanks for that. I remember hearing he was interested in returning, but I never saw an official press release or something. They'll probably release a complete list of non-roster invites in the next couple weeks. Bruney and Eric Stults have been mentioned in the last couple months.

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 03:50 PM) Definitely, I would bet Thornton moves too. Or someone like that. That was my first thought...what else is going to Toronto? I'm calling bs on this one.

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 11:49 AM) Or the guys we could possibly trade (Floyd, Crain, Thornton, etc.) suck in 2012 and have no trade value at the deadline. We have to stick to the plan. This is another reason I fear that KW will make mistakes, in order to appease the fans who think everything will turn out fine as long as one or two things work. I'd rather gamble that productive pitchers will remain productive than trade them now and regret it by June.

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 11:36 AM) Is no one else already worried that we'll only get a "project" prospect and a throw-in? Let's not half-ass this rebuild. Stick to it or don't, no in-between s***. But thing about that is, you can't trade Rios, Dunn, or Peavy. And they probably won't move Konerko or Pierzynski either. So this "rebuild" is a multi-year process. The way I see it, they currently have 5 starting pitchers that can go out and put up a quality start. I think they should try to win with the 5 starters, and see if the Dunn, Rios, and Beckham bats come around. If they do hit, they would regret moving a Floyd and Crain and/or Thornton out of the pen. There's no real good reason to make any more significant moves until July unless they get overwhelmed with something.

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
Couldn't some of these moves...Thornton, Crain, Floyd all happen in July just as easily and with more teams desperate to add? Call me crazy, but I think there's an outside chance the current roster can win. To me, they should give this roster a few months to play, and then if they're 6 games back in July and under-.500, trade anyone you can/want.

Jason Frasor Traded to Jays
QUOTE (sunofgold @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 03:01 PM) How is our bullpen going to look? Different than 2011. Sale in the rotation. Frasor and Santos traded. Crain, Thornton, and Ohman will be back. Wonder how the rest of the bullpen will be. Addison Reed as the closer. Maybe Stewart as the longer reliever. Infante? Yikes! Jhan Marinez could be in there. Brian Bruney and Eric Stults will be among the NRIs. I think Axelrod will be the long guy/spot starter.

2012 Cuban signees thread Cespedes/Soler/Concepcion
A little too soon to start using the term "sunk cost" for Rios and Dunn. Rios -- 3 years, 38 mil Dunn -- 3 years, 44 mil They have to play them from the start of the season like the highly-paid veterans that they are. If they get to 2014 still underperforming, then maybe you just eat the last year. That's the time to call it sunk cost.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
I think it will be: De Aza CF Ramirez SS Konerko 1B Dunn DH Rios LF Viciedo RF Pierzynski C Morel 3B Beckham 2B L-R-R-L-R-R-L-R-R That's best case scenario with Dunn and Rios doing ok. By the way, when the Sox brought Beckham up in 2009, do you think they probably had him penciled in as a 3-hole hitter by 2012? Kinda sad he's a 9-hole hitter still.

2012 Cuban signees thread Cespedes/Soler/Concepcion
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 10:24 AM) DeAza is a great guy to have as a 4th OF. He might be better than that, and if there was ever a year to give De Aza a full oportunity to be an every day player, this is the year. A reminder of what his full year was like between Charlotte and Chicago: 153 games, 174-537 (.324), 93 runs, 61 xbh, 60 rbis, 34 sb And he hit .329 in 54 games with the Sox, with a .400 obp. He deserves a chance to play every day.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 08:27 AM) Posted for no other reason than we know the Sox have had interest in the recent past. ChiTribRogers Phil Rogers Coco Crisp, rumored to be signing soon, fits w/#whitesox, who spent weekend clearing salary. Does KW trust Alejandro de Aza? Kenny has been on record that he does like De Aza to play every day, but it's up to Ventura of where he plays and what spot in the lineup. Pretty obvious De Aza will be leading off and playing CF on opening day. I'd say the Sox are in need of a lefty bat off the bench that can play a little 3B. Uh, who is the back up at 3B? Personally, I'd like Tyler Kuhn to have a spot on the roster. He can play anywhere, pinch run, pinch hit, and give a guy a day off here and there.

Carlos Quentin traded to Padres
QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) Neither one of these guys were on the San Diego 40 man roster. We are now down to 35 on ours. Why did we expose Doyle again? Actually both are listed on the Padres 40-man. So the Sox are at 37 now.

Carlos Quentin traded to Padres
Salary dump. Nothing more. Nothing less. If they were going to get anything, it would have been in a package deal with either Floyd or Thornton. Hopefully Kenny is done now, and they just try to win the first few months of the season. If not, they'll have a lot to offer in July.
