I just listened to the Ventura interview. Reading between the lines, I think he's saying Thornton out of courtesy and not to just hand the job to Reed. My feeling is that by the middle of March, Reed will have the closers job. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/?podcast_url=h...mp;dcid=CBS.CHI

Sox are stupid if they don't let Reed close from the start. They have nothing to lose, and they should know by now that Thornton and Crain aren't closers.

When do we stop talking about this guy and just move on?

QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 03:09 PM) Lillibridge at 3B... That scares me. Has he even tried playing 3B before? I think McPherson is the only real 3B we have that could backup Morel. I think Ozzie Martinez has played 3B too, but who knows if he's any good. This whole list is somewhat underwhelming. It'll be nice to see Thompson play, but he's still so far away. True, maybe Martinez can play 3B. I hope they give him #13 just as a dig at Guillen. I hope Tyler Kuhn opens some eyes too.
-
Of the position players, I'd only give McPherson a shot at the roster. The Sox still don't have a back up 3B, so he could be the guy, unless you think Lillibridge could do that too. Dunno.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
flavum replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Pitchers and Catchers report one month from today. Games start 6 weeks from today. Need some news...anything...isn't it about time to announce the non-roster invites? -
Selig will be there for the opening ceremonies which will be televised on CSN, Friday at 4pm. He'll also stick around for a Q&A with Hawk. Don't act like a dick.

The guy that runs baseball-reference.com was on Clubhouse Confidential the other day, and mentioned that there are "easter eggs" on the site, and he mentioned the Mendoza Line. So I just put in Mendoza Line in as a player, and it automatically took me to Adam Dunn's player page. Very Funny. -
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 04:37 PM) Rockies close to acquiring Scutaro from the Red Sox. Or not.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 01:47 PM) Seriously, how could anyone possibly like this guy or want him as part of your organization. What a piece of s*** I've already turned the page. I really don't care what Ozzie Guillen or his stupid kids think anymore. Hopefully once spring training starts we'll all see a difference in the attitude of the team, and we can all forget about the stupidity that Ozzie brought to this team.

Should Lillibridge be in our everyday lineup in 2012?
flavum replied to sunofgold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Lillian @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 05:44 AM) The obvious solution is to platoon de Aza and Lillibridge. Their split numbers are both very lopsided. Lillibridge was a monster versus LHP, and de Aza has always hit RHP really well. They both have the speed to bat at the top of the order, and their OBP's are good enough when facing pitching from the opposite side, especially de Aza's. There's nothing obvious about platooning De Aza and Lillibridge. De Aza flat-out earned the right to play every day this coming season. As long as he performs, I hope the plan is he starts 150+ games in the lead off spot. -

Show me a team with a lot of open competition in spring training, and I'll show you a team that sucks. Lillibridge will get his fair share of playing time, maybe a start once or twice a week. He's a good guy to have on a team if an injury happens. -

Hell no. -
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jan 16, 2012 -> 04:26 PM) Hell on Wheels season finale was disappointing. Agreed. I come away from season 1 the same way I did The Killing. I watched it, didn't hate it, but I doubt I'll watch another season.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 16, 2012 -> 10:46 AM) Jake Peavy needs to STFU and pitch. Nothing else needs to be said. I think I'm done listening to whatever Peavy and Cooper have to say because whenever I hear them talk now, I come away thinking they're both assholes. It doesn't mean they can't be good at their jobs and I'm not rooting for them, but they both say things in the wrong way, way too often.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jan 13, 2012 -> 11:04 AM) I have this gut feeling that the Cubs are going to win it within 3 years. This year they might be competitive and either just miss, or even make the playoffs contrary to the popular consensus (that they're going to be garbage); but 2013 or 2014 will see a Cub WS winner. I kind of like it the way it is right now, and would rather keep it that way- but my gut feelings are usually pretty good. The Cubs aren't winning anything in 2012 or 2013. If they go from 2014 to 2023, and make the playoffs 7 out of 10 years, and win a World Series in there somewhere, then the Theo Plan will have worked, in my opinion.
