  1. I'm guessing that rios will get the final spot on the bench.
  2. I agree I think I would rather take the chance at Lee having a breakthrough with another team then the chance of him continuing to stagnate here. Besides I think in order for him to have a breakthrough season he needs to DH so he doesn't have to think about defense.
  3. That is probably a possibility, it seems that a lot of players and agents had a hard time accepting that the market is down this year.
  4. I agree it's all about depth now.
  5. If we could get Lampkin on a minor leauge deal it would be good to have a veteran availible if/when Alomar goes down. Other than that maybe Orlando Palmero if Rowand isn't going to be ready.
  6. None of these names are very interesting but at least they might provide some band-aids for any possible injuries.
  7. When it comes to on the field performance Mark has done everything right and everything to deserve the opening day start. Mark and Colon are both aces so being #1 or #2 shouldn't matter and they will both have the oppertunity to get their 35 starts. In this case pitching on opening day is an honor that should go to the guy who has helped this team the most and that guy is Mark.
  8. I'm cautiously optimistic, I'll go with 88 to 92 wins.
  9. It is rumored that Colon turned down 12.5million a year from the Expos, and while the money is probably not why he turned it down that will be the type of money he is looking for. I honestly can't see jr and kw offering anywhere near that so I am not optimistic about him re signing. As for Mark, keep Mark lose kenny.
  10. Most pitchers get Tattooed in Colorado, White pitched quite well once he went to St. Louis and he has respectable career numbers. Besides that you can never have too much bullpen depth.
  11. Correct me if I am wrong but didn't Nillson get moved to first base by the Brewers when he was there because he was very weak behind the plate.
  12. or ever again - that money of money is not healthy for the sport and it sure hasn't been good for the Rangers I think that the only good thing to come out of the AROD deal is that it probably got most of the owners to realize that they were helping the salaries skyrocket. Now hopefully they will not make the same mistakes again.
  13. zito's numbers are just staggering 47-14 , 536ip , 430 hits , 465k's , 203 bb , 3.04 era last year 23-5 , 229ip, 182 hits , 182k's, 72bb , 2.75 era those numbers would look great if they came from a pitcher in the late 60's...wonder what it will cost to sign this guy when he becomes a free agent if he stays the course..could he get AROD money??? I truely hope that no one will get AROD money for a long time, I don't care how good they are. I just hope this market correction that we are starting to see a little bit can take hold.
  14. I believe Beltran's agent is Scott Boras so it's not likely that we would go after him.
  15. Weather or not he was hired because of race is irrelevent, he should be fired due to incompatence.
  16. I agree it is doable, I am just not sure that it is likely to happen though.
  17. My intended point was that I can't see the Sox offering anything near that amount. While I agree that he wouldn't want to stay in Montreal the team is being sold and relocated so there would have been a lot of potential for him to be the ace pitcher in a new market. However with the uncertainty of the situation that probably wouldn't of swayed him.
  18. Our offence was third in the AL in runs scored and that was with guys like Clayton and Mark johnson on the team. We didn't need Irod. Olivo's arm is as good as Irod's and his offence has to be at least as good as Johnson's probably better. As long as he learns the finer points of the position from Alomar he should prove to be an excellent catcher, we didn't need Irod.
  19. I just read in Baseball Weekly that Omar Mineya said that the Expos were in negotiations with Colon on a long term deal before he was traded. BW said the deal was rumoured to be 4 years for about 50 million and was turned down by Colon. If this is true I really can't see him signing an extension with the Sox.
  20. He has a reputation as a bad game caller. That young pitching staff could be in trouble.
  21. I agree that the bench could use more depth but I'm not to sure about Tony Clark, it would be nice to find someone with a little more versatility. Is VanDerwal still available?
  22. Looks like a decent veteran that could help us, another step in the right direction.
  23. With every thing he has done so far it makes me wonder what does he have to do to get fired.
