QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 09:47 PM) You do know that the season is a third of the way over? That would mean that Pods would do something so bad defensively in one out of 20 games to lose us the game? That seems quite the difficult accomplishment. He's not good out there, but we're not talking Mackowiak/Everett bad. Yes you are completely correct. Yes, five games is most likely an overstatement. Yes, Pods is a better CF than Carl Everett. But seriously, anyone that watches every game (I am assuming you are that kind of fan) such as myself learns just how important defense is. IMHO it is the MOST IMPORTANT thing to a pitcher's success. How many times has a missed play led to another 25 pitches being thrown by your starter, and an extra appearance for your reliever and f*** no one is thinking of the poor guy that has to open the bullpen door... he has children! He can't be opening that door all night. Pods is NOT a CF and I do not think a Chicago baseball team that draws the crowd that the White Sox do should have to settle for someone playing out of position on defense. God knows we have for the best part of the last five years. Either play Anderson or make a move Kenny.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 09:41 PM) so far. Coming into '09 Pods had a resume of 750 games that said he sucks dick in CF... 31 games of adequate D hasn't changed my opinion.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 04:53 PM) --Pods starting in CF (can't believe I am saying that, but, he has been a pleasant surprise), Anderson 4th OF and defensive replacement Pods will cost the team a minimum of 5 games if he starts the remainder in CF. Even if Pods was able to keep swing a hot (lucky) bat his .300 average is only 50 points higher than Anderson's .250. Which is only one more hit every 20 at bats. (Not to mention Anderson out-slugs Pods and gets on base at roughly the same rate). I personally wouldn't trade one hit per five games in exchange for Pods awesome/grinder/retarded CF defense.

He needs to be fired. There is no defending it. You are either of the mentality that the hitting coach has very little to do with the performance of grown men, who have been hitting baseballs for a minimum of fifteen years. (If he doesn't matter why pay him? Or at the very least why not bring in someone else, if the hitting coach doesn't matter what can new blood hurt?) Or You believe that Walker does impact the team; and then clearly, his "all or nothing" approach needs to go. I have read debates about Walker for years on WSI and they make me cringe. If I were KW I would only be interested in hiring some computer wiz kid that is up on all of the latest technology. If there is anything that professional baseball players might not be used to is utilizing the new technology.

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 06:02 PM) The 2009 Chicago White Sox have never been shut out in a game in which they hit a homerun. I'll play the never game... Bartolo Colon has never seen a jelly doughnutt he didn't eat. Scott Podsednik has never rounded a base with anything less than his balls completely to the wall. Paul Konerko has never really missed it, he always just misses it. Dagummit. Gordon Beckham has never got a hit. Oh s***, now I've done it.

QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 03:52 PM) limp at home.

What a difference a couple of weeks make in here I'll bet 6-6. Without Quentin this is a .500 team.

The Buck stopped... there. -
Pods can hit .400 for all I care... that still will not make him a CF. Unless he can somehow bump Thome from the DH roll, he has zero business in MLB.
-
Making outs here with Fields Bartolo will fight you for your meals Crede's back will make you livid Don't cry... The exodous is here....

I was talking to Jose yesterday and he told me the reason he lost his forkball and slider was that his ex-wife took half of everything... literally.

Brewers Get a Servicable CF/4thOF for.... Nothing?

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:41 PM) This was also to make Scott Hairston the full-time starter. Luckily Gerut is barely serviceable.... therefore he might be servicable. Mods feel free to edit so my alma mater isn't ashamed. -
Apparently there were/are better (better not great, obviously Gerut is not an Allstar) options, but KW prefers the likes of Scott Podsednik and Nix out of position??? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/05/brew...ade-coming.html

Excerpts from How to Play Baseball the Scotty Pods Way: On base-stealing: "You don't need to be fast to steal bases, it is all in the technique; and if you have no technique, just f***ing take off the minute the pitcher steps on the rubber". Scotty on laying claim to a position: All you have to do is look the part. If you are skinny and agile it will be assumed that you can play centerfield. Just concentrate on looking like you belong, that is way more important than actually being able to judge a flyball, or hit the cutoff man. Make sure you wear tight fitting shirts to show off your physique. At team dinners make sure you pass on dessert. Be sure to get vanity license plates that say OF4LIFE. I sign all autographs: Scott Podsednik: Outfielder. I purchased three replica gold gloves on ebay that look just like the real thing, I keep them on my mantle. I had Ozzie and Mrs. Ozzie over for dinner once and I noticed him looking fairly closely at them... I am pretty sure he bought it. In the occupation category on facebook I wrote: Outfielder. I consider myself more of a con-man or magician than a center or left fielder. YOU need to convince the manager that you are an outfielder. Pods chimes in on offense: After you strikeout (and if you are reading this book you will strikeout): Show no emotion; walk briskly straight into the dugout, DO NOT make eye contact with teammates or the coaching staff. The majority of the time people won't be paying enough attention to even realize you are no longer at-bat. If anyone asks you about your at-bat, just reply: Your what hurts? He also shares his advice on sabremetrics: Your average chick at the bar, team groupies and even your wife... none of them have any idea what on base percentage is... don't f***ing worry about it. I have had more than 50 at bats this season and my OBP is .285. That is awful, yet posters on Soxtalk.com are already saying they are pleasantly surprised by my performance thus far... RZR? OPS? Who cares? Scott shares tips on sliding: Always slide head first, it will make it look like you REALLY WANT to be safe; it is also extra effective if you slide head first and happen to be white. And don't even think about wiping that dirt off your uniform young man. A dirty uniform means you tried EXTRA HARD to bring your team the victory. And his final thoughts: Make certain you keep your cell phone on and charged at all times. You never know when a general manager will want to fool the average fan into thinking he is doing everything he can to win. The call may come even when you least suspect it... hell my agent told me I was finished, he said there are 100 guys unsigned that can play better outfield defense than me; But I said how many of these guys are named Scott Podsednik? How many of these guys actually LOOK like they should be able to leadoff and play centerfield? That is what I thought...

I am starting to wonder if this was just a move by KW to make it look like he is giving '09 the good ol' college try.
-
I read Peavy has two small dogs and is slightly concerned that Bartolo might eat them... understandable.

I'm peaved...

Time to put the jersey on eBay before KW realizes this isn't 2005.
