    LOST!!!!

I loved the ending. The show got weak in seasons 5 and 6 when it felt like the writer's were explaining the show to a five year old. Lost was best when it was more mystery than sci-fi; I am happy that the ending left things up to interpretation.

    LOST!!!!

QUOTE (jphat007 @ May 23, 2010 -> 10:46 PM) So why does Jack have a kid in Purgatory? That wasn't Jack's kid according to Locke. My guess is that it was Juliet's sister's son.

    LOST!!!!

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 18, 2010 -> 10:03 PM) They explained why he took her off the list pretty clearly. Everyone on the list was a loaner struggling with a lot of issues. Kate became a mother, so Jacob took her off the list. But if the list didn't matter and was "just chalk", why was Flocke so determined to get all the canidates together and kill them saying numerous times that was his ticket off the island? If it was "just chalk" couldn't Jacob have just erased the line going through someone else's name and made them the canidate? Afterall Flocke did tell Claire not to get on the sub, and she at one time was a canidate (I believe), so he would have found a way for her to die as well. This portion of the story is weak at best.
  4. Pierzynski is worth squat. Do you guys remember this offseason? JD can't get 3 million! If the Sox pick up the contract, they get one decent prospect (which they are actually paying 6 million for) or they get someone to pick up what is due to AJ and KW gets a couple crap "save face, 100/1 to see the bigs" players.
  5. Hochevar is the perfect opponent for the Sox today. He either wins the game himself or loses it himself.... so it doesn't matter how bad our lineup is.
  6. A few quick thoughts and I will try not to bog them down: #1 Ozzie/The White Sox do not like taking a called third strike. This leads to "putting the bat on the ball". In '08 Ozzie/The fans/Hawk hated watching Swisher guess on 2-2, take one right down the pipe, grimace, and stroll back to the dugout. Sox fans much prefer Quentin popping a high heater out of the zone, straight up in the air... "at least he tried to get a hit". Note to all Sox fans: Just because Swisher didn't swing, does not mean he wasn't trying to help himself/the team. #2 There appears to be no consequence for failing at situational hitting. #3 The Sox have four everyday players that have "big, free swings". I believe that is more than any other team in baseball. When you are swinging from your heels it is hard to adjust your approach at the plate.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 2, 2010 -> 07:20 PM) , but the Sox talking to the Angels about Konerko (probably a Konerko for Brandon Wood swap, or something along those lines) actually does make sense. The Angels wouldn't have traded Brandon Wood for anyone in our organization save Beckham or Danks.
  8. I didn't want to give this it's own thread because I don't know how strong of an argument it is... yet, so I'll put it here. The White Sox seem to have their fair share of "free swingers": Rios, AJones, Quentin, Alexei. It isn't easy to define a "free swinger" and I don't just want it to be strikeout rate; to me (for the most part) it is hitters that have roughly the same approach at the plate regardless of the situation. It is the kind of hitter that when a pitcher is "on" or has good stuff you know before they even step into the box that they have no chance. And to clarify, I will admit that I am also not sure if this style hitter is just more "hard to watch" for someone that follows baseball closely, than it is actually bad for winning games. Now, it is impossible to decipher exactly who qualifies for this prestigious group but... I feel like most teams have between 1-3 of this style hitter while the Sox have a resounding four in their everyday lineup. Thoughts?
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 2, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) Yup. Teahen's UZR, +/- could look radically different a couple weeks from now. I like the new defensive metrics. But a lot of people have no idea how to utilize them. Your reply is neither correct or appreciated. Yes, we are using small sample size, but today's plus minus score is 100% accurate based on his play thus far this season. You don't need to see someone play a full season to judge how someone has played in 25 games.
  10. According to +/-, Teahen has been the 32nd best 3B this season. I do not believe there is a minimum games played requirement yet, so there has to be quite a few "eligible" players. Bill's site will not show them in list form past the top ten; but for what it's worth everyone I checked on ranked higher than 32nd. To my eye he has been terrible, and according to +/- he is the worst.
  11. How about not blacking out the WCIU games for people that aren't blessed with the Tyler Perry channel? MLB Extra Innings: Blacked Out MLB.TV: Blacked Out MLB Iphone App: Blacked Out My options are to watch the game on 1/20th of a screen on the MLB Extra Innings channel that shows all the games or listen to Ed and DJ. This sucks Brooks! I am a season ticket holder, when I give my tickets away I would like to watch the damn game on tv.
  12. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 08:30 AM) Scary thing is Teahen, Jones, and Konerko have all been better than expected these first two weeks. All Teahen has shown me is that he sucks defensively. Even if he reaches his ceiling offensively (something like 25/.280/.825), that will not make up for his glove. I know we desperately needed a LH bat, and OFFENSIVELY Mark sure seemed like a relatively inexpensive option that could blossom at The Cell; But KW really screwed the pooch by yet again plugging another guy into a position he can barely play.
  13. I am generally a Kotsay supporter (playing RF against RH SP).... BUT How is this possibly acceptable: QUOTE (Ranger @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 06:39 PM) 1) If Kotsay is batting third, and he fails there, they aren't going to keep him there and he will have a pretty short leash. You cannot bat a 34 year old guy with a career OPS of .750, third in an American League lineup, and expect anything but failure, so why bat him there in the first place? QUOTE (Ranger @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 06:39 PM) 3) Kotsay really isn't going to bat third and Ozzie doesn't mean what he's saying. And even if Kotsay does bat third, it will hardly ever happen. So.... basically you are saying that if your first two points fail to defend Ozzie's case for batting Kotsay third, it really doesn't matter because Ozzie didn't mean what he said?
  14. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Mar 21, 2010 -> 12:27 PM) I agree. Plus Greedy has no business making insulting comments to people on this board. He has ewvery right to express his opinion and have his side heard as we all do, but being nasty isn't right Who did I insult? What the f***!
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2010 -> 10:07 AM) FWIW, threads started with veiled personal attacks aren't any better than responses with them. Consider this a warning. Personal attacks? What are you talking about? A warning? For what?
  16. For years on this board and others, I have bashed Dye's defense in RF and I have been met with a fair share of protest. Some more dellusional than others, but for the most part it seemed that more people than not think JD was/is a solid option in RF. And clearly, a strong majority, if not all MLB GMs seem to believe that Jermaine cannot play as an everday outfielder; and JD doesn't want to be paid as a 4th OF or DH, hence the current extra time to spend with the fam. So what rock did all of you crawl under this offseason? And is Hawk or Rongey under there with you?
  17. I am not worried about his bat. Even if Teahen struggles a bit, it will be hard for him not to match his career averages with the move to U.S. Cellular for 81. My concern is his glove, I am sick and tired of watching bad defense make our starters throw that many more pitches.
  18. QUOTE (chiguy79 @ Mar 20, 2010 -> 09:58 AM) I know if I was Tweeting bad things about my company I would be fired tomorrow. If you Tweeted a bad thing about your company you would be fired. This is embarrassing for the Guillen family.
  19. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 04:31 PM) I would guess Kotsay. Knowing that, he'll probably put up a .380 OBP this year. Easily Linebrink. It should have been Jenks, Dotel walked for virtually the same money Bobby received. Twas a mistake!
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 03:12 PM) LOL, this is fantastic... guy who posts on Sox fan message board says he's creeped out by fans. I thought you could enjoy following, watching and discussing baseball without acting fanatical about players.
  21. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 10:29 AM) Then there's a s***-ton of strange/creepy men at baseball games. Yes there is, and a large percentage of them (not all) share many of the same characteristics. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 11:01 AM) That's a ridiculious notion. Getting older doesn't mean you have to stop rooting for individual players. If anything getting older, should reaffirm your beliefs as a fan. Feeling at all concerned that something like this is creepy, says a lot about the person holding that opinion. Fan is short for fanatic; So yes, because you consider yourself a crazy person, I suppose you are more than welcome to wear a shirt with your favorite grown man's name on the back; It has to be the least of your problems. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 11:04 AM) Thanks Grandpa. See you at the early bird. In college people actually called me Grandpa because I never went to after-ups. I tried my hardest to be in bed by 2:30 a.m., I felt it kept me out of many bad situations. How that relates to me thinking it is tacky to wear personalized jerseys as an adult; I am not sure. Halloween is one day a year for a reason.
  22. Grown men wearing shirts with other grown men's names on them is strange/creepy/sorry. When you get your driver's license you should have to turn in your jerseys.
  23. Thome sure is lucky that "being a down-to-earth, nice guy, to over-zealous fans that meet him at a Texas Roadhouse" is still a stat category. I think anyone who says anything positive on here about Big Jim needs to clarify whether or not they have: A. Hugged him. B. Ever said "He reminds me of me, I'd have been just like Jim.... if I hadn't blown out ma knee and got Mary Lou pregnant.... and ya know, made it to the bigs". C. Not just gone hunting', but actually purchased real-estate for the sole purpose of shooting game. D. All of the Above I kid, I kid... I'd let him hit right handed starting pitching; The money just better be half of whatever Cust signed for, and 1/3 of what Dye is going to end up getting... Otherwise KW will have made the wrong choice. Personally, I think if Jim was ANYONE but himself he would be accused of not caring about anything but his career homer total.... about ten times a week here. I know this is ignorant thinking, but I just wish he would maybe one out of ten times just try and make it at least look like he is trying to beat the shift. Humor me Jimmy. P.S. I have some Thome memorabilia hangin' in my basement... cause you know, he is a good ole' boy just like me.
  24. "Umm, Jermaine is, ummmmmm not available right now; May I take a message? No, I don't think he will be back anytime soon".
  25. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 06:34 PM) Take away his 2 outings at Yankee Stadium and his seasonal numbers are: 1.08 WHIP, 1.08 ERA and 11.3 K/9 in 16.2 IP. He did have a .162/.279/.270/.549 line against lefties overall. To my eye RAAAAAAAAANDY was just laying it in there late last season. I expect the hitters to catch up to him in 2010. The Sox won the World Series on the backs of three relievers (Cotts, Politte, Hermanson) that were just throwing first ball strikes and constantly challenging hitters; it isn't a terrible strategy but it is very difficult to sustain long term success without being able to make hitters miss... at least from time to time.
