  1. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 24, 2017 -> 01:57 PM) I think Kershaw is the only active starting pitcher who makes the Hall. Sabathia is borderline but I think he just misses it. Sale would need to be elite into his mid 30s and I don't see it happening. Felix was on track but he's been very mediocre his last few seasons and unless he returns to his previous form (unlikely) I don't see that happening either. If Bumgarner can nab a Cy Young or two I guess he has a shot, but no one else is in the conversation. At least until standards change to reflect the modern era. I think that will happen sooner than later though, especially with some of the old guard who can't even see anymore getting removed from the ballot list. The voters will realize how much SP has changed and will start comparing these guys against their peers, not with the old time pitchers who were able to notch 350 wins.
  2. Gotta think the execs at NBC are rooting hard for a Penugins win tonight. A Nashville/Ottawa final probably doesn't do much rating wise, even though it would have the leagues best D-man on one side and P.K. Subban on the other.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ May 24, 2017 -> 10:15 PM) Awful called 3rd...second game on the home stand that umps/replay gifted them the final out That was pretty bad, as soon as it that pitch broke down, the ump was calling it a strike no matter where it landed. It wasn't even that good of a framing job.
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 24, 2017 -> 03:22 PM) Man, Greg thought this was the ultimate "GOTCHA" thread, didn't he? And he hasn't given a single opinion of what he thinks the criteria should be. Just repeating "sabes!"
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 24, 2017 -> 01:35 PM) So, you are counting on a hypothetical, not very likely to happen, nuclear war to try and back up your claim that the world is falling apart. If you used actual statistics you would know that Violent Crime, mass killings, homicides etc are all way down around the world. You should ignore the bulls*** headlines you read and pay attention to actual facts. The 40's to the 90's were all MUCH more dangerous globally and domestically than now. By a pretty decent factor actually. I can't find the data and graphs now, but if you actually look at the 70s-80s-90s in Western Europe, there was more terrorism and bombings than there is now.
  6. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ May 23, 2017 -> 09:54 PM) I'm definitely OK with the offseason trades, but imagine where this team would be with Sale pitching every 5 days instead of Covey who basically gives up a run an inning. The Sox are 3-5 in Covey starts and only scored 1 run in two of those losses. I think its fair to say they would have 2 or 3 more wins with Sale. They would be 23-21 and 2 games back, instead of 5. Still a worse record than last year.
  7. UK raises their terror threat level to the highest level, "critical", saying a another attack may be imminent. Military to be deployed in certain sppts, similar to how France has been
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 23, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) I was talking about this last night. You would be hard pressed to get a bomb into the united center during an event, but nothing would stop you from standing just outside the entry doors with one. Until the recent spate of car attacks, I had never noticed the multiple concrete posts in front of the UC entrances. But this year I thought about it if someone tried to drive a car through the doors, but then saw how many posts there were in surrounding the entrance.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 23, 2017 -> 08:21 AM) He resigned to "pursue other opportunities". I guess the writing was on the wall after Goff got the afternoon gig.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 23, 2017 -> 08:28 AM) Of course everyone is running with the story that ISIS is claiming responsibility but no evidence of that as of yet. They did officially claim it this morning. This lady is all things ISIS for the NYT, very good Twitter follow if you are into such things. https://twitter.com/rcallimachi/status/866994176021409792
  11. In his statement on the Manchester incident, Trump says he refuses to call the terrorists monsters because that's what they want, instead he will call them losers, because losers in life is what they are. I get what he's going for so I won't fault him completely, but calling somebody a "loser" seems like such a Trump-ism. I could see that as part of a SNL sketch even before this.
  12. Goldschmidt is my favorite player, another incredible talent that gets little hype on the West Coast
  13. Your Western Conference Champion Nashville Predators. I didn't see that coming a month ago but they are no fluke, well deserved. Gonna be an epic party on Broadway tonight. And easy to see Bieksa is still a little s*** with his end of game antics. Adios.
  14. Manchester police confirm at least 19 dead, such an awful tragedy, at a young teenage concert too
  15. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ May 22, 2017 -> 03:02 PM) As someone with an ethnic last name and an english first name, I no longer care. I don't care if he calls himself Poopdick McFartington if he can hit. Where can I obtain a McFartington jersey?
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 21, 2017 -> 08:13 PM) The kids walking out in protest should show you how much they think of the bulls*** "rules" derived from that novel. These are intellectually elite college graduates. Good for them. And they did it in the most civil way possible. They didn't make a scene, they didn't interrupt, they turned their backs and walked out to make their point, yet let him make his speech. Good for them. But greg thinks these kids are stupid for attending a top 20 university because his religion hates gay people
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 21, 2017 -> 07:46 PM) OK I see your point. It still seems strange they'd go to a school run by Catholic priests and monsignors. You are saying they don't think about that at all. Well then why the hell are they thinking about the guest speaker? No I understand why they hate Pence. My point is they are going to a school where they should hate all the leaders. Cause they share Pence's opinion on the matter. Notre Dame seems pretty accepting of the gay community, despite what you think. http://www.grc.nd.edu/lgbtq-allies/
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 21, 2017 -> 07:44 PM) Damn. I'm pretty sure Catholics support gay conversion therapy as well and Notre Dame is a catholic institution. And you are a proud Catholic, right?
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 21, 2017 -> 07:25 PM) Cool Reddy, thanx. I was just wondering if they are the type to protest their beliefs at a graduation ceremony, I'd 'think' they wouldn't want anything to do with Notre Dame to begin with. Cause ND is Catholic and the rules state homosexuality is a sin I believe. That's as bad or worse than what Pence is preaching. What you say makes sense but it seems like it's weird to walk out of the ceremony when each and every day they might consider walking off campus cause of what the campus leaders believe. Catholics can't be gay?
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 21, 2017 -> 07:22 PM) I think he meant a prospect. I think Hawk uses "best ever" far too liberally
  21. QUOTE (Lillian @ May 21, 2017 -> 04:02 PM) The only thing that he could still improve upon is his ability to draw more bases on balls. I suspect that teams will begin to more frequently pitch around him and if he can take his walks, then his offensive game will be complete. During last nights romp in Seattle, Hawk said that Avi is the best 5 tool talent that the Sox have had, in his entire career, in the booth. Maybe I'm crazy but I'd take George Kenneth Griffey Jr. and his 5 tool talents over Avi anyday.
  22. QUOTE (daggins @ May 21, 2017 -> 03:32 PM) The Mets and Mariners were two teams I thought would get wild cards and contend for their divisions. Boy, injuries are a b****. The Mariners and the White Sox look very similar from 2007-2016.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 21, 2017 -> 12:55 PM) But to Greg's point, if they just drafted Trout instead of Mitchell (just hit #14), no rebuild would have been necessary. Or signed Miguel Sano the same year the A's paid almost twice as much to Michael Ynoa. Mike Trout has all of zero playoff wins, so there still might have been a rebuild even with Trout. This isn't the NBA
