  1. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 08:10 PM) I'd replace Beckerman already. He f***ing sucks and is way too slow to play in this game. He's easily my most disliked US player, so bad. Just don't pull a Mexico. 3-0 is OK
  2. France, Spain, Germany, Italy, and England all on the same side of the knockout bracket. Not gonna get a better chance than this Poland!
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 02:49 PM) That was an incredibly pointless article. Given how awesome Jeff Passan you usually is, that was such a disappointment. He said little to nothing.
  4. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 01:45 PM) I gave up. Here you go: http://www.stubhub.com/hamilton-chicago-ti...sliderpos=false
  5. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 11:15 AM) Remember last week when people were mad the Sox didn't use Putnam? He was hurt. They just didn't want the other teams to know. Yet they pitch him in the bottom of the 9th of a tie game??
  6. Class action suits are so random. Last month my company got a $500 check because 13 or 14 years ago some life insurance company sent too many advertisements via fax machine and caused "excessive fax machine accessory and repair costs". I'll take it, I have no idea how many we received but I doubt it caused anywhere near $500 in fax machine wear and tear.
  7. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 08:11 AM) This Boston team has no pitching. Surprised that they are 39-30 actually. When you average over 5.5 runs/game, winning is a bit easier with mediocre pitching.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 07:56 AM) I SAID EDUCATIONALLY... What does that have to do with playing basketball or baseball? 9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 07:49 AM) He graduated from Duke in 1989 with a double major in philosophy and political science, and, later received a JD from Duke Law School in 1995 and an MBA from the Duke Fuqua School of Business in 1995.[7] Sounds like nothing in common with Hahn EDUCATIONALLY. Northwestern and Duke are comparable. HLS is a step up from Duke, obviously. But still similar backgrounds. I was pooh-poohed for questioning Hahn's playing career/athletic background...as if it wasn't important in the least in terms of being a good MLB GM, but I think a lot of people are starting to question what exactly it is that Hahn can do well. If you are questions his athletic background, why would you compare him to a guy who played at the highest level of college hoops?
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 06:38 AM) Hahn has a somewhat similar background to Quin Snyder (educationally). It took Quin a lot of personal struggles and fighting through demons to get back to where he is today...but he's much better for having gone through that adversity. I don't get the sense "adversity" is a word that has the same meaning at 35th and Shields under JR. That would be a great comparison if Rick Hahn was a three-year starter at a blue-blood college baseball program and then was an assistant coach for that team while he completed his law degree. Otherwise, Rick Hahn has a somewhat similar educational background to Johnnie Cochran and Marcia Clark. Does Hahn have an alibi for the night Nicole Brown was murdered? Do I sense a new 30 for 30, "Rick Hahn: Made in America?"
  11. Everyone is shocked that the Senate voted down another gun control bill this week, so soon after this shooting. If very little changed after Sandy Hook, I can't imagine a worse scenario than that to make those politicians change their minds.
  12. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 07:20 PM) Lebron was a celebrity by high school and a multi millionaire by 18 years old. Despite a tough start and it was definitely tough, I'd say he's done alright financially. The single mother thing I feel for but is it really that unusual for majority of the AA community currently playing in the NBA? Most of these guys grew up in broken homes with basketball being their only way out. I wasn't comparing him to the rest of the NBA, I was referring to Curry and Klay. While they may have been unheralded, they also had quite the advantages given their parents. Now as the defending NBA champions coming off the greatest regular season ever, it's hard to see them as underdogs just because Curry went to small school Davidson. And Jordan was never cut from his high school team. He didn't make the varsity as a sophomore and had to play JV that year. He then dominated and was recruited by Dean Smith, hardly the underdog story coming up.
  13. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 06:37 PM) To me it does. I pull for guys that were under appreciated through the early parts of their careers. Who doesn't? It's what makes MJ's story that much more appealing (cut from high school team). If you are gonna get all philosophical on us, I would argue that the kid who grew up inner city poor to a single teenage mother is way more of an underdog than the two guys whose Dads had long NBA careers.
  14. The Blackhawks organization is run like a smooth well-oiled machine. Player is traded away in unpopular deal? Commence "anonymous" s***-talking. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/06/20/zaw...rom-blackhawks/
  15. Wow. I got 17 $2.25 off, two $5 off UPS delivery, and 17 two free ticket codes. Nice.
  16. I've been trying to check my vouchers all day and just keep getting a "technical difficulties" error. Too many SoxTalkers on the site.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 19, 2016 -> 09:25 AM) Prospects break your heart. I get BP every year and keep it under my bed. Here are the top 20 prospects according to them in 2010: Strasburg Heyward Naftali Perez Jesus Montero Stanton Pedro Alvarez Desmond Jennings Carlos Santana Buster Posey Chris Carter Dustin Ackley Jeremy Hellickson Ryan Westmoreland Martin PereZ Kyle Drabek Justin Smoak Brian Matusz Escobar Michael Taylor Madison Bumgarner That is baseballs top 20 6 years ago. Does that look like a roster that should contend year after year? I'd say so, that's a pretty good core to start with. Add in a couple free agents and that's a WS contender. 1. Bumgarner 2. Strasburg 3. Martin perez 4. Hellickson C Posey 1B Smoak OF Stanton OF Heyward OF D. Jennings DH C. Santana
  18. It's so enjoyable watching Mexico got smoked. Of course their fans start throwing piss cups, typical. I guess that's better than the flares in Europe.
  19. Chile is giving it to Mexico, great performance so far. Mexico at Soldier Field Wednesday is suddenly up for grabs. I have been watching in English on FX.
  20. There's the title contender Belgium squad, Lukaku is awesome. Poor Ireland in the Group of Death
  21. QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 1, 2016 -> 08:22 AM) Obviously almost anyone here could manage as well as every Sox manager we've had. Same goes for every other sport. What happens when someone is named head coach or manager? Do they try to hard to be unique and forget basic fundamentals, stats, and sound strategy? You can't assume that all managers and coaches were ever good at strategy in the first place. Coaches are hired for various reasons and attributes, and they have so many different responsibilities. Maybe a coach is so good at having his players ready to play everyday and can handle pitchers so well, you ignore his tendencies to bunt or ignore splits, etc.
  22. It turns out tee times are very hard to come by on father's Day morning, go figure.
  23. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jun 17, 2016 -> 01:20 PM) That lineup with Ross just looks so stupid. Make him a coach or something. Yet he's got a .750 OPS this year, better than Avila or Navarro. Theo's magic pixie dust has no limits
  24. Saad - Ladd - Sharp Teuvo - Frolik - Brouwer Bolland Byfuglien - Leddy Oduya - Campbell That's the start of a playoff team right there, thanks salary cap!
  25. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 04:00 PM) Poland had two chances to score, like easy goals and blew it. You are not going to win a championship just turtling the whole time. Millik missed a few of those in the first game too (although he did score). With defenses focusing on Lewandowski, it's gonna be Millik to finish those.
