  1. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 12:29 AM) I love how Peavy is out there hugging him before he even gets to 3rd base. Hey, I need to go touch home first. Peavy said his eyes are bad and he thought it was a double not a homer.
  2. That Thursday Night game was close and had drama, but was still ugly. They really need to give teams byes before Thursday games, even the NCAA does that.
  3. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 10:14 PM) Historic home run....and Joe Buck is just awful. FS Deportes had a much better home run call http://deadspin.com/giants-win-the-pennant...home-1647464716
  4. That Cardinals postseason pixie dust. Adams has zero homers vs LHP since early July, now he hit them off Kershaw and Bumgarner. Then Tony freaking Cruz homers
  5. I most likely would play the sample size card, but I could see more time off affecting hitters timing. It might be more useful to compare how their hitting and run scoring was affected vs how their pitching changed.
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 03:02 PM) In general, outside of two hot stretches, weren't they a sub .500 team? After the Sox beat them on July 21, they were 48-50, then they went on a 24-6 run. They finished the season 17-17.
  7. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 02:51 PM) He also said the '05 team won a crazy amount of 1 run games. KC is the same way. Probably what PK and Dye are seeing as well. The Royals has a losing record in one-run games this year, they were 22-25.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 01:45 PM) I wouldn't be one bit surprised if next year we were up to "Average" at 1b defensively. Abreu started off the season looking as bad technique-wise at 1b as I would if you put me right there, and he pulled that together really quick. It would probably also help if we had someone on the roster to actually give him some time off every now and then, so a DH/1b backup type would have a place in that lst. It would probably also help if we had a manager who actually gave him some time off every now and then.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 11:00 AM) Well, Hawk the idiot, who the game has passed by, said KC had the best bullpen in the league in March. They have had a great bullpen for a few years now. How many other bullpens did he call the "best"? He uses that word more than he breathes.
  10. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 11:31 AM) D Kyle Cumiskey placed on waivers. Time to start looking for real estate in Rockford Kyle
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 09:28 AM) I also think character issues are important. Melky is a cheater extrodinaire (sp I am sure). He also had attitude problems on the Yankees and Braves. The Braves let him go for nothing. I don't know why Greg is called out for not liking Melky because of his issues, and why it is OK to use other issues as reasons to not want someone around. Does anyone really think that if there was a drug test that could not be beat, Melky would pass? It is one thing to employ suspected players, it is another for known cheaters. Cheaters cheat, and in most cases, continue to cheat even after they are caught. To me signing Melky is a desperation move. You are just waiting for that 100 game suspension to be handed down. I guess the bright side would be he wouldn't be paid for all the budget worried people out there. That type of desperation move worked out pretty damn well for the Orioles. I'm not saying Melky will hit 40 homers, but I don't think you should ignore Melky simply because of a past suspension.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 09:39 AM) I am just so sick of Jake Peavy. I get why he would make sense. I am just so sick of him, his attitude, and how that played out in Chicago. Call it personal all you want, I'm allowed to have a visceral reaction to a guy. Ugh. My thoughts exactly (Might as well keep up the saltiness today) Plus I have a hard time trusting him outside of San Diego/Francisco
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 09:07 AM) everytime i reply, i am singing the chorus of "Im so fancy" and replacing fancy with salty I'm so salty cause I only know of one World Series between Houston and Chicago
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 09:01 AM) Pauly only had the opportunity to say it once Given the franchise's lack of playoff history, 2005 is the only comparison anybody has I guess.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 08:30 AM) Pauly didnt say that the were the wire to wire leaders though, just that they reminded him of the 05 team. With their SP and BP, and their ability to grind out close games, it isnt hard to see Said every successful playoff team ever
  16. McClain apparently had lung cancer for two years and didn't tell anyone, not even Sergio. http://www.news-gazette.com/sports/prep-sp...achs-fight.html
  17. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 07:40 AM) The hate from you on the Royals is strong my man. Haha. I've come to terms that the Royals are gonna win the World Series, so my hate has subsided a bunch. We talked about this in another thread, that 05 Sox team always gets underappreciated for how good they were. Comparing them to a 89 win wild card team doesn't do them justice IMO.
  18. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 06:15 AM) Royals are four wins away from Konerko being right on the money. Except for the whole being in first place every single day of the regular season.
  19. Madison Bumgarner vs. a seemingly banged-up Adam Wainwright? This is the type of game the Cardinals always seem to win nowadays.
  20. Jonas Hiller playing like it's the 2010 Olympics again
  21. So even if Wil Myers becomes the next Mike Trout, Dayton Moore will still get the last laugh, who knew. The team could still use his offense, but when a throw in becomes an unhittable setup guy, that's huge. I didn't realize how good their bullpen was, that trio has had an all-time great historic season. They will never all repeat that in the same year, just because baseball happens. Way to take advantage.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 01:45 PM) The only game he pitched for the White Sox and the last game he pitched in a major league uniform. I remember a lot of us were really excited about that move because it seemed like such a perfect low risk, high reward move. The Sox actually won the game he pitched in, which is commonly forgotten because it seemed to spark the Twins, and they won the next 5 games against the Sox. No matter what, 2008 was so awesome because it seemed like the Sox finally climbed and beat that hurdle of getting their asses kicked by the Twins. Then 2 years later with Kotsay and Thome and it was back to square one. I was at the Blackout game and it was awesome, but I never got that feeling from 2008. That last week 3 game sweep in the Metrodome was miserable, then a coin toss put game 163 in Chicago. No way the Sox win in Minnesota. It was great to win the division, but seemed more luck than actually finally getting past the Twins.
  23. QUOTE (Boogua @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 12:32 PM) Turner also rescinded a scholarship that Jay Cutler accepted. Turner wasn't a very good coach. Turner sucked hard, but it's hard to blame him for Rodgers, given that he ended up at a community college because nobody wanted him.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 15, 2014 -> 10:50 AM) Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 1h1 hour ago #Dodgers likely to hire GM under Friedman. Minniti would appear to be possibility. Here again is link: http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/los-ang...-rays-gm-101414 … It's interesting how the new thing to do is become team President with a "GM" under you.
