QUOTE (MEANS @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 12:06 PM) Why does he include PK when saying "Their departures marked the end of an era for a franchise..." when he's talking about PK and AJ? Well PK is currently on pace for under 100 ABs this season..

I am always amazed that whenever a position player comes into pitch, they almost never get rocked. The often pitch scoreless innings, maybe a run or two, but rarely give up a crooked number. Why is that? Is it just hard for batters to adjust on the fly to a non-pitcher?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 10:28 AM) Right, I understand that, just saying that was the context and the reasoning behind Keri's statements. The offense has been night and day from last year, but I really don't think it's the best offense in the league, which is where they are right now. I get it and they are improved, but it's just such a strong bold statement for something that is obviously unsustainable in the least.

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 10:28 AM) I don't know if you have but you should make those picks official http://bracketchallenge.nhl.com/playoff_challenge/ who knows, might win a SPYDER Might be a bit late for that since the playoffs started yesterday

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 10:10 AM) He explains it in the next paragraph. The Sox wRC+ last year was 83, which is absolutely dreadful (Paul Konerko was an embodiment of the Sox, much as he always has been, with his wRC+ of 82 and a line of .244/.313/.355). It's only 14 games, but as of right now, the Sox have a team wRC+ of 125, which is a 42 point improvement over last year (which, at this point in time, is the largest single season offensive swing in MLB history, but that is likely to change over the course of the season). A wRC+ of 125 as a team is basically like saying Prince Fielder or Ryan Zimmerman - .275/.350/.460 kinds of players - are coming up to to the plate all the time. It's early, but it's staggering how much better the offense has been. And I'm sure most teams have a 14-game stretch where a .810 OPS guy seems to bat every at-bat. Let's see what it looks like after 60 or 80 games, when 20% of their schedule wasn't played at Coors Field.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 09:58 AM) What? If you took random 14-game sample size from every team, I bet you that happens pretty often.

It's hockey so who the f*** knows what will happen, but I'll give the prediction game a shot. PIT over CBJ in 5 MTL over TB in 6 (Bishop injury is huge) BOS over DET in 6 PHI over NYR in 7 CHI over STL in 5 COL over MIN in 6 ANA over DAL in 6 SJ over LA in 7 PIT over MTL in 6 BOS over PHI in 7 COL over CHI in 7 (NOOOOO!) QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 16, 2014 -> 08:59 AM) Right, but it's not like the D'backs were going to be serious contenders this year (maybe they thought they were, but they were delusional) where they were giving up a guy who wasn't going to help them immediately in order to get a closer. Davidson will be with the Sox by 2015 if not later this season, and Reed will be hitting arbitration and becoming more costly. They also signed Bronson Arroyo for their rotation, instead of letting one of their more talented young starters develop in the rotation. -

QUOTE (gatnom @ Apr 16, 2014 -> 01:54 AM) All I can think of when I see the shield is a USA Olympics or World Cup type of logo, particularly when it's in full color. It's not bad in and of itself, but as the U of I logo it just seems wrong in my opinion. We agree on the silver uniforms, though. The shield looks good as a small patch on the football uniforms, but when it's the main focus on a jersey, it's pretty bland. -
QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 08:28 PM) Might be comparing apples and oranges. Bears have only 8 regular season games, Sox have 81. The Hawks and Bulls play indoors so no weather issues except getting to the game, they sell out but the Sox still average more fannies in the seats. Would the Hawks and Bulls sell out a 40,000 seat arena for 81 games? The Sox averaged under 22,000 per game last year and that's just about what the United Center holds. The Sox also sell $5 or $10 tickets to many games, while it costs you $60-$70 to stand at a Hawks game. I do realize that money affects decisions for fans, but to act like that's the #1 thing keeping Sox fans from attending is ridiculous. It's an extremely front running fanbase that isn't that big. Now with a really bad baseball team and the sport itself becoming insignifcant to the casual fan in the city of Chicago, no one is attending Sox games right now. Spare the price and economy talk, there are some very cheap tickets available to nearly every game.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 11:00 PM) Except the silver basketball uniforms. Those shouldn't exist Silver uniforms are absolutely hideous and that I shield with the stripes is questionable at best. Helmets rock but the football coach still sucks. -
QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 10:51 PM) Lets not forget the bullpen was good Even that unproven bum Downs
-
Not the best throw by Boegarts, but Carp has zero excuse for not catching that ball
-
Wow. The 2013 Sox would have lost the same way. Yay for the law of averages!
-
I haven't watched much Sox baseball this year and all these 42s are confusing the heck out of me, I have no idea who is batting half the time

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 08:23 PM) EJ has now reached NBA Jam "He's on Fire" with those consecutive K's going back to last inning. Jinx!

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 07:19 PM) Good points Marty. Also like to add high taxes, high cost of living, high health insurance premiums and an Illinois' population has been declining for years. People just don't have the money they once had. Its really no surprise at all that attendance is declining year after year. Yet the other 3 major sports teams in Chicago keep raising ticket prices and selling out every game.

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 11:59 AM) Try updating it and maybe the drivers just needed to be up to date and fix the issue.worth a shot I'll try that out, although I need to update via USB or find a website to download it from, since my phone only allows update via non-functional Wi-Fi.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 01:43 PM) WSU fans are pretty confident Marshall won't go to Tennessee. They're a pretty delusional fan base in general so it doesn't mean a whole lot but thought I'd pass it along. No matter if he stays or goes, you can bet Marshall is getting a raise. This is where agents earn their money. -

All the Tennessee players are showing support to Martin for leaving, which you don't see very often. -

Cuonzo Martin leaving Tennessee for Cal per ESPN. Not really sure why. -
QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 11:29 AM) Is your phone up to date software wise? I just went to update the software and it told me that the available update is more than 100 MB large, so it's not available via mobile networks. I need to connect to Wi-Fi to download. Of course I am unable to connect to any Wi-Fi network, so it's not letting me download the update.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 11:16 AM) Thursday is essentially a holiday game though so that should push the crowds out. Red Sox too should have 5x the bandwagon again compared to last year. Unfortunately looks like the weather will damper things anyways Yes, this is a huge factor I overlooked. QUOTE (sammy esposito @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 11:21 AM) I would've came in 2012 but couldn't bear coming to see Peavey disappoint the fans game after game. Ha, well said.
