QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 09:03 AM) MJ fell short of sainthood, but gambling and extramarital sex are not exactly the most serious charges for a professional athlete. MJ's issues related to his ultra-competitiveness are something people would have loved to see from LeBron. One guy lashes out in anger, the other flops when pushed by Nazr Mohammed. I wish MJ didn't dress like a confused 15 year old from 1999, though. Who, this guy???

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 07:42 PM) You rooted for an adulterer who punched teammates in the face and called a guy he drafted a flaming f***ing f***** who also was a compulsive gambler and has people to this day that still believe his gambling led to a suspension and his father getting wacked. You could root for a guy who's only sin in life is a f***ing espn special. It always cracks me up when Chicago sports fans claim character or morality as a reason to not like a player. Unless you weren't a Bulls fan in the 90s, the greatest Chicago athlete of your lifetime was not exactly a saint off the court.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 06:57 AM) I know when Golson got suspended, there was a second player involved and supposedly that player was Daniels, but he didn't get suspended then because it was his first offense and Golson's second. I would have thought Golson's suspension would be enough to scare Daniels straight, but maybe not. There are no easy academic paths at ND. You can't major in tomahawk chopping or painting with garnet and gold. ND is pretty deep at WR anyway, so he could just go away and I wouldn't miss him. I think the Admiral's kid is going to be the stud WR now that Jones is gone. I laughed. -

I voted not sure, I think it's too early to give him full approval until some of his acquisitions actually step foot on the field in Sox jerseys and perform. If some of them bust, then you are back to square one with some of your best trading chips gone.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 02:01 PM) I'm not making it up. I do remember reading something like that in the Tribune article about Chicago owners last fall.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 01:52 PM) Which should mean that the U.S. actually has a whole lot fewer difficulties with "lots of people living on the land we need" as well. Both countries have large geographic obstacles, but if you want to build something new in China there's probably something already sitting there you have to demolish. And in China the people have no say and whatever needs to get demolished does immediately, even if it affects people living there. They also have workers that work for pennies under much worse conditions than in America. It's much easier to get stuff built when there are very little rules the government has to follow.

When do they release over/unders for college games? In the morning they always have the spread up, but not the total. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 09:27 PM) So in BCS summary, Mizzou had two top five finishes, neither years with a BCS bowl. And Illinois had zero top ten finishes and two BCS bowls. God bless the Big Ten. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 09:07 PM) This is all still so surreal. Best day since the blackout game and the happiest I've been as a sports fan since October 26th during that glorious year. Brings back memories of when they retired Frank's number. Bought expensive StubHub tickets for that game just to be there, it was so awesome to see him honored. Would love to head to Cooperstown but not the best summer for me to make that happen.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 09:11 PM) Missouri's about to lose at home to an embarrassingly bad Georgia team. Absolutely horrible loss. Back in the summer who had Missouri football winning at Georgia and Georgia basketball winning at Missouri. -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 08:43 PM) Just like Soxtalk to take a thread that should be one of the most joyous in its history, and then derail it so thoroughly. Blame the Hall of Fame voters, those assholes just grind my f***ing gears, even though I shouldn't care. Although they did get this one right and make the Big Hurt a first ballot HOFer, biggest honor in the game. From this point on, I will save my HOF vitrol for another thread. CONGRATS FRANK!!!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 04:41 PM) Outside of a place like NYC, Chicago's mass transit is about as good as it gets nationally. There might be a couple of other on the East Coast, but especially as you go West and South, there is no such thing as public transit like Chicago has, especially trains. It may compare great nationally, but I think it's pretty lacking outside of the Loop. There are plenty of neighborhoods that are a pretty far distance from trains. There are a great amount of buses, but the buses kind of suck, especially in the winter and when there is traffic. Obviously this is not national, but when I was in Madrid, their subway system was just incredible. It went everywhere in the city, there were so many trains & stops, it was new & clean, and they all came every 5 minutes.

QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 05:26 PM) Players didn't use amphetamines to hit more home runs, players used them to so they could get enough energy to play their X game in a row after a long bus trip in the middle of the dog days of the hot summer. And amphetamines have been used in baseball since the early 1900's. I'm not saying the usage was right or wrong, but I can overlook the use of amphetamines a whole lot more than I can the usage of steroids. Gotcha. So players who might have struggled due to lack of energy took amphetamines to enhance their ability to keep playing everyday, which in the long run most likely increased their stats that may have helped them get into the Hall of Fame. A player in their late 30s or 40s may have used that extra energy to reach 3,000 hits or 300 wins late in their career. While other players might have avoided them, which may have hurt their longevity in the game or endurance each season.

Maybe they should switch back to another game for a while, ugh, not a good start. Watching basketball on ESPN is infinitely better than BTN. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 05:09 PM) All you have to do is look at the offensive statistics in the 70's vs the late 90's through the late to see the difference. So amphetamines and andro had zero effect on performance?
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 04:37 PM) amphetamines and andro do not belong in the same category as AAS So some performance enhancing drugs are OK, just as long as they weren't too strong?
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 04:24 PM) My point was, if you put amphetamines and andro in the same category as anabolic steroids than not only did Piazza use PEDs but almost everyone did. Which is why it's stupid that the voters are trying to play judge jury executioner with all the PEDs.
