  1. Ilya Kovalchuk retires from the NHL He had 12 years, $77 million left on his deal, although I'm sure he will get apid in the KHL. Devils get a $250k cap penalty yearly until 2024-25, and still don't have a 2014 1st round pick from the original voided contract.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 02:04 PM) I wish, I just don't see what throwing 120 pitches vs. 113 a couple of times a year destroys a pitcher as is characterized as abuse. When some were complaining about Santiago not being stretched out, I mentioned he was able to throw 100 pitches in a start and the response I received was he should be able to get to 110-115. That's basically what Sale is averaging. I hear ya, he's not doing it in every start, so it shouldn't kill him. But when your season is down the drain already, it just seems better to be cautious with your most valuable asset.
  3. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 02:01 PM) So why throw at Alexei? I don't get it. Sale threw up & in to Prince after the Cabrera homer.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 01:44 PM) In 1993, Randy Johnson went over 120 21 times. He went over 140 9 times over 150 once. He was really good for a long time after that. So what you are saying is that Sale is throwing too FEW pitches? So Robin needs to get him closer to the 140 pitch mark more often, to up his chances to be the next Randy Johnson.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 01:18 PM) Throwing 110 pitches or more in 8 of last 11 starts isn't helping Sale is one of 2 or 3 pitchers to throw 120+ pitches twice this season. (Or something like that) Robin Ventura = white Dusty Baker
  6. f*** the logo on the floor, how about the kid takes off his damn sunglasses indoors?
  7. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 11:18 AM) It'll be interesting to see how well Phegley catches Sale. Good quote from Robin: Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin RV on Phegley catching Sale: "It's kind of like the first time you get the keys to a really good car. Don't crash it."
  8. Derek Jeter is being activated from the DL today. 3-1 odds that he wins the Gold Glove.
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 09:07 AM) That money could be flipped to the Cubs if nothing else. They seem to be sucking up all the int'l money they can get. Theo is set on winning the 2017 WBC
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 03:36 PM) Cubs and Mariners in a battle for Ellsbury, with the other one getting Choo Then I hope the Cubs win the battle for Ellsbury.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 08:32 AM) But that same $25 million from every team (but the Marlins) will also be chasing that same small group of elite players and driving the contracts for Ellsbury, Choo and McCann into the stratosphere. That's the downside. Then you get stuck with a so-so contract for Granderson when you didn't even really want him in the first place, but you have to take SOMEONE to give hope to the fans and marketing department. Do you really think the signing of one FA like Granderson would make-or-break attendance? One way or another, they will sell out Opening Day, then people will wait and see how the teams plays, FAs or no FAs.
  12. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 11:11 PM) Rooting for Leroy and Ty on Rivals this year! I'm rooting for a CT vs. Zach showdown in the Jungle. Frank might be the worst human being on the planet. The guys' teams are all pretty stacked. Then there's Knight & Preston
  13. BMac's Twitter feed was pretty entertaining last night. On MLB-TV, Mitch Williams said of B-Mac's head injury last year, "If you don't pitch inside, this is what's gonna happen"
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 01:39 AM) He and Axe both have to go. Axe is just wasting time. He needs to get on with his life and enter the business world or something. Ha. He's a 27 year old making $493k playing Major League baseball. I would happily go out there every five days and get my brains beat in.
  15. Maybe Pujols should have signed with the Cubs. He rakes at Wrigley. (I realize he wouldn't face Cubs pitching then)
  16. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 08:22 PM) What are the buy ins like?? what do they range from They have the standard low money tourneys, $1, $2, $5, etc. and I think they range up to $270 entry. They also have like $535 H2H matchups. (Not that I play those)
  17. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 12:38 PM) How is Fanduel? It's the only site I have used so I don't have much to compare it to, but I have no complaints. I like their big tournament options, their mobile site works well even on my prehistoric smartphone, all money transactions have been smooth and quick too.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 04:23 PM) Committed Indians Tuukka Rask gets EIGHT YEARS and $56 MILLION from Boston ($7M cap hit). Somewhere, Corey Crawford agent just had a hockeygasm... No way in hell Bowman gives Crawford a similar contract.
  19. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 03:30 PM) It's amazing the number of medical professionals that we have on this board that are privy to his medical condition. It's been historically documented that Peavy's personality has led him to come back too early in the past, but without your credentials I guess we aren't allowed to talk about it. /thread
  20. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 06:45 PM) Am I misreading your comment or do you not want these guys suspended? I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it, but it wouldn't bother me in the least if these suspensions got overturned. Baseball helped create this steroid monster 20 years ago and now suddenly they are running this witch hunt and blackmailing people to try and show that times have changed. Seeing Bud Selig lose again would amuse me.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 02:54 PM) Phegley benched, lol.... Sort of. I'm sure he would probably be in there with another 2/4 and homer or double game. I'm sure he plays in the day game tomorrow
  22. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 03:20 PM) I don't blame Rick Hahn for trying. Agreed. It's still July 10th, the price better be steep. You don't have to trade him by tomorrow.
  23. FWIW: The Associated Press ‏@AP 1h BREAKING: Railway company chief says employee failed to properly set brakes in Quebec train crash.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 09:07 AM) Letting fans vote and guaranteeing a roster spot for every team are more marketing than meaningful. Don't tell that to Bud Selig, the game matters!
