2013-2014 Blackhawks regular season schedule It's weird seeing so many Eastern Conference teams on the schedule again. New division names are: Pacific, Central, Atlantic, and Metropolitan

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 11:42 AM) Kershaw also doesn't have health concerns. Wasn't he injured last year?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 11:08 AM) Not with him being a free agent in 1.5 years. He'd be leaving us with nothing at that point, or we'd be signing him until he's 40 and paying him $25 million a year then. That's why I go back & forth on it. He is just such a force right now though.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 11:07 AM) I'd take Tulo and/or Cabrera. And I'd take Kershaw if I thought I could extend him, which would be the case if you were trading for him. Tulo needs to stop getting hurt. And if we do extend Kershaw it's gonna be for over $200 million, I'd rather keep Sale for a year or two less for $160 millions less.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 10:33 AM) Not a single person in that group I'd trade Sale for straight-up. I would go back & forth about Miggy, but I agree about the other four.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 09:17 AM) Of the 45 MLB contracts $100 million and over, in at least 38 or 39 cases, the team handing out the contract most likely regrets it. I don't know why Greg is getting ripped. He happens to be right. The last 6 World Series champions have all had at least one $100 million contract.

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 08:17 PM) Rosenthal tweeted moments ago that he has one source that Garza to the Rangers is pretty close. What does this mean for Peavy, as when healthy is the next most valuable pitcher on the market. Teams get desperate? Rosenthal says a deal is very close, while Heyman & others are saying that the Rangers are ready to walk away and turn their attention to Bud Norris, so who knows. The timing is right for Peavy to pitch a gem on Saturday. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 11:42 PM) I'm saying nobody should get one of these contracts. Then the problem would be solved and a "decent" box seat might cost 20 bucks instead of 60. As far as my silly little tangent, Ben Maller is the one who started it. I'm just responding to the current bust, Kemp. You sound like an old man stuck in the 50s. "Back in my day, a pack of baseball cards cost 5 cents, and you got a free piece of gum too." Like it or not, but those $60 box seats sell, so they aren't disappearing, especially with the influx of TV/internet advertising money coming in. And the reason GMs spend so much money on players is to appease fans like you who demand winning baseball. If the Dodgers didn't give Kemp that money, the fanbase would be pissed that the cheapskate owners couldn't keep a homegrown star and no one would sit in those box seats. And how is a 28-year old with six years left on his deal a "bust" already? He can get healthy and keep raking in the future.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 08:21 PM) Kershaw and Harvey will be above Sale. But Sale was ahead of Felix and Darvish. Absolutely zero reason Kershaw should be above Sale. $11 million in 2014, then at least $20 million from 2015 and on.

Hopefully it's not the same PK that has been playing since last June.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 10:12 AM) Everyone is baffled by it. Keith Law was hammering the system on twitter last night as well as many others. Oakland didn't even get a pick. It's a joke. Oakland gets screwed over by being part of the San Francisco market. Kinda like the Sox being screwed by being in the Chicago market, where the majority of people are fans of another team.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 01:09 PM) If WAR isn't created equally, it is a deceiving and incorrect stat. I don't think there is any question 5 years from now, unless it is totally tweaked, statheads will be calling anyone who brings up WAR a fossil. If one run created = one run saved, if the stat was accurate, 2 teams 14 games apart in less than 100 games, shouldn't have the same cummulative WAR. It simply doesn't add up. I agree. My other issue is with the concept of "replacement player". As if any scrub off the street would put up a 0 WAR. If I'm to believe the Sox system is as bad as they say, I bet most of those guys would contribute negative WAR as well.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 11:55 AM) He's a JAG. If he plays in the majors, it's to essentially "eat innings" or to act as a bat on the bench. More likely is that he is playing 1B in AAA to help the Knights win ball games. Also, where are you getting that monetary figure? All I see is that it's a minor league deal. Easy on the name calling

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 10:37 AM) Arrange your news feed by Most Recent, dips***. I do!!! It changes back by itself, I switch it back, but it still gets rearranged. It has a mind of its own, I tell ya!

I think we found a comp. Both these guys have power arms in the outfield, and look at their numbers after their first 38 games played: Yasel Puig: .391/.422/.616 1.038 OPS Jeff Francoeur: .350/.372/.664 1.037 OPS

I can't figure it out anymore. It seems like half the s*** doesn't show up on my feed anymore, there's crappy advertising everywhere. It's still a good way to kill time when bored.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 06:43 AM) Froome pretty much has this locked up, but they are going up Alpe d'Huez twice today. Is it even physically possible to complete such a stage without PEDs?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 10:27 PM) Where are we, North Korea? Freedom of speech and press and all that jazz. If you're offended then don't buy it. Isn't complaining about it freedom of speech as well? Same with stores refusing to sell it, they have that right to express their opinion.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 11:53 PM) See, we'll never know. I was told by a respected poster that last year's collapse was cause the Sox ran out of gas and were injured. How the heck do we know that? We blame running out of gas because Robin is liked. How do we know Oz's antics affected the team in any way? You still have to hit the ball and pitch the ball and field it. Why does Oz get blamed and not Robin? No, it's not because Robin is liked, only you think that. Konerko & Youkilis are still injured from last year. De Aza had a back injuty throught the second half. Peavy, Sale, & Q were nearly doubling their innings pitched from the season before. All I know is that the team completely rejuvenated in 2012 after going through all of Ozzie's drama in 2011 and I'm not the only one who noticed it.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 06:03 AM) Love The (British) Open because I can watch it early in the AM at work. It's entertaining because it always just looks so miserable for the players. They aren't breathtaking courses like Augusta, but they can be so tough.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 07:00 AM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/hocke...0,1971662.story As much as Bettman threatened to say no, there was no way he was gonna stop the players from going out there. The time zone is not as convenient as Vancouver was, but it's still good marketing. Plus, guys like Ovi already said they were going over no matter what.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 09:47 PM) At least it was interesting. If we weren't gonna win it anyway, it was fun to follow the soap opera. I rather got a kick out of Oz's postgame and pregame interviews. I thought they were funny. This year there's nothing to follow except ridiculously bad baseball. Except those were talented teams capable of making the playoffs who got thrown off by the managers antics. But I guess a funny manager is more important than winning.
