QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 04:20 PM) Not surprising. They want to make a splash, but they have to stay reasonable. We have extensions for Kane, Duncs, and Toews to worry about down the road. Fixed. -

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 03:09 PM) It's eight and a half million dollars, and you are ok with that, but if Tallon adds 500,000 to the deal, he is insane? Interesting...... Because if it gets up to 9, you know ATL would kick it back up to 9.5, and so on. They are desperate. I'd like to think DT has enough sense to end that bidding war and make a push for Redden at 5-5.5 per. -

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 03:05 PM) No Yes I understand that is a boat load of money, but Tallon wants to win. Sure, we could go after Redden but by the rumors, we haven't even talked to him. Plus, Redden is more of a defensive defenseman, while we need more help offensively on the PP. At least now stud FAs are considering us. Now, if ATL kicks it up to 9 per, then I will not want us to match that- that is insane. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 03:45 PM) I'd like this deal with the Kings done. Agreed. To have almost $13 million rapped up in goalies would be a bad way to start for the "new look" Hawks. -

QUOTE (JFields27 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) Speculation: Hossa to EDM that would suck, him and cole would make quite a winger pair. Can you just please put a link or just a source (TSN, sportsnet) so we know where you're getting this from? -

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 03:11 PM) Have to lower your expectation on a Bulin package. 1 year left on the deal could be attractive to teams, but you're not getting alot of bang for your buck with the deal. A 4th rounder and/or a solid player is all I expect. -

There are so many people on the Hawks board that it's hard to even get on there and follow signings and trades. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 01:53 PM) So can someone fill me in on Huet? His numbers looks really good, but the name doesn't resonate. Also, what kind of return could we expect for Khabby? He was 10th in GAA and 6th in save%. He is 32, from France, and played very well down the stretch last year for the Caps. The deal is for 4 years and $5.6 per. We could expect a solid player and a 3rd or 4th round pick for him. -

QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) I like the move. I'm a fan of Huet, even though some people think he's a system goalie. I think he puts that theory to rest a little with his play in Washington. So I think he's an upgrade on Khabibulin, who at his best was great, but just wasn't consistent enough, and too injury prone over the length of the deal. DT could really get himself a nice forward or defenseman here by dangling Khabi. If we could trade him to a team in need of a goalie like the Sens, we can get a solid player and a pick in return. A move like that would clear cap space and would allow us to then get the money back we just spent on Huet. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) What kind of insurance is a guy who has shown the last 2 seasons he can't handle the major leagues. Its funny on this board how guys get trashed and most rightfully so, then when it comes time for a trade, the same people trashing these players think they have value. MacDougal has none. If he did, he would be at USCF right now. Thank you. -

Just about to post it. This is good news, only if we can get rid of Bulin. If we can't, it's a huge waste. I'd like to see us deal him to Ottawa for a solid player and a pick. With that money dumped, make another, bigger offer to Hossa. -

QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 01:36 PM) Insurance Troy Percival and Al Reyes are huge injury risks not to mention Reyes fell apart after the ASB last year; add into the equation Wheeler is just one year removed from this line 1.34WHIP & 5.30 ERA, Niemann will be thrown into a bullpen on a first place team with very little experience and Salas is off the PEDs, and you have a recipe for a front office looking for cheap insurance that might catch lightning in the bottle going forward. MacDougal hadn't been horrible down at AAA in June not great by any stretch but not bad either, the rays dont want to deal a top prospect for fuentes. Maybe we could get a Tweener like Fernando Perez for Mac and Uribe and a bit of cash. Insurance? If they want that, they'll get a solid RP, not a POS. -

QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 02:35 PM) Goodbye Khabby then if the above does happen. My guess is he's off to Tampa. Kolzig isn't a starting caliber NHL goaltender anymore. But they do have Mike Smith there also, but I don't know if he's a bonafide #1. Maybe Edmonton could be the team that trades for Khabby, they've been clearing salary today, and need an upgrade in goal from Roloson, so there are some definite possibilites. Oh and the Senators, definitely. Hmm...I wonder what we could get for Bulin... -

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 01:33 PM) Caps Sign Theodore; Huet to Chicago? (Updated) In a surprising move, the Caps have signed free agent goaltender Jose Theodore to a two-year contract. The team had been discussing a three-year contract extension with Cristobal Huet, but the sides couldn't close the deal this afternoon. "It just fell apart," Huet's agent, Stephen Bartlett, told Ken Campbell of The Hockey News. "We just hit a couple snags that we couldn't work through." Update: The deal with Theodore is for $9 million ($4.5 each season). That's obviously less cash and a shorter term than the three-year, $15 million the Caps had been discussing with Huet. Update:I just heard from a source that Huet asked the Caps for three years, $15 million and the Caps offered it to him. But Huet then said he wanted test the market today and see what might be out there. Now it's looking like he'll sign a four year deal with Chicago for $5.6 million Where is this from? -
