Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
whitesoxbrian replied to The Beast's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 02:27 PM) Game 1 going into the 4th quarter now. The camerawork at most high school games puts this to shame, but the announcers are entertaining enough. I didn't know what you meant until I tuned in on nba.com. Wow, this is bad. How did Rose do the first couple games? -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 03:57 PM) Assuming their rotation remains completely unaltered, which is at best a 50/50 proposition. Well, he's supposed to go tomorrow and I went from there.
-
Barring any rain-outs, in the remaining 10 games vs the Cubs, the Brewers will only throw CC once against the Cubs. Also, Sabathia will make most of his August starts on the road.
-
Vlad said he's in. Only 1 left for the AL now. I'd like to see McClouth be the final NL guy and Kinsler be the final AL guy.
-
How about Brandon Morrow? The most consistent player on the M's, has an ERA under 1, throws 99, and isn't on the ballot? Unbelieveable. I bet if Joba would have kept at his pace and stayed in the pen, he would have been chosen even though his ERA would have been above 2.

The Star Tribune, out of Minneapolis, and ESPNews, says the Hawks/Wangs on New Year's has been confirmed. from startribune.com -
Eat wild card, Cubs' b****es!!

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 05:30 PM) the score is reporting this deal is really close to going down too

QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 04:11 PM) When do they announce the injury replacements? They already know Ortiz won't play, so why not just name his roster replacement now? (Hint, hint, JD, hint, hint.) Good idea. Then they could add AJ to the final vote ballot. Too bad he'd never win now.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 03:55 PM) Wait...so the three AL first place teams make up how many all-stars? 2 for white sox, 1 for A's, 3? devil rays? The Angels are leading the AL West, not the A's. The Angels got 3 guys in- Saunders, Rodriguez, and Santana. The Sox got 2 guys in- Crede and Q. The Rays got Kazmir and Navarro in. But, the Rays could get another guy (Longoria) or the Sox could get another guy (Dye).

QUOTE (Jim Spencer @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 03:38 PM) Don't forget Soria for KC. I can't wait until we trade for him. He's one KC pitcher I wouldn't mind seeing in Sox uniform. You think they take MacDougal and Sisco back for him I wouldn't call KC "bad". Also, I hope you're not forgetting Greinke as another "KC pitcher I wouldn't mind seeing in a Sox uniform". BTW- there's no way they trade Soria.

I wish AJ was on this.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 03:30 PM) What does that have to do with his contract? Prince will be a free agent in 2012. However, the Brewers will lock him up before then. Ease up. I thought Olney said that it will be tough locking up Prince and CC both long term due to Prince's contract is up soon.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 03:29 PM) varitek may be the single worst All star ever....lance carter bad.... but i think its worse because at least carter made it because of the every team having a member rule...i mean alot of people in boston are saying varitek is done and they want him out of there now they really did a poor, poor job this year putting these together...recently it has been pretty good too...seemed like hte last few years they had been constructed they way they should but really if they are gonna make this game count for the world series, they have to get rid of the fan vote...or visa versa, get rid of the world series rule and just use interleague play record And, if they want to put the best team together, they shouldn't HAVE to take atleast 1 guy from each team. If a team is so bad that they don't have a good player, no need to put on a guy having an average year that may cost the team a game. Atleast this year every guy from a bad team who made it deserved it (McClouth, Guzman, Volquez, Ichiro??, Halladay, Sherrill, etc).
-
Anybody know when they'll announce the guys in the HR Derby. Call it what you want, but it's still fun to watch 420 foot HR after 420 foot HR. Hamilton says if he's asked, he'll do it. Here's my dream scenario: AL Morneau Hamilton Kinsler Manny Sizemore NL McClouth Tejada Utley Uggla Aramis
-
BTW- Soto doesn't deserve to start. Martin should be starting, and McCann and Soto should be the back-ups. Oh well. I hope Aramis goes into the HR Derby and f***s up his swing.
-
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 03:24 PM) Is that some sort of argument that Braun is decent in LF? No, but he hasn't made an error. Bash his fielding all you want, but no errors says something. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 03:17 PM) ??? Fielder has only had what, 2 1/2 seasons in the pros? Unless there was some weird deal when he was drafted, he is under the Brewers control for another 3-4 years. He was drafted in 2002.
-
Yeah, my fault, I meant 4-3. BTW- we have faced some mighty tough SP's of late. Lee, Sabathia, Duchscherer, Smith (3.4 ERA), and now Harden- and we won all those games except 1.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) well, I mean the cubs have the best record in baseball and aramis has had numerous big hits. He's an all star. Fukudome...eh. I think he probably is, but just not a starter. On the other hand, I think Soriano doesn't deserve a spot, period.
-
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 03:05 PM) You would withhold him due to his last 29 at bats? Come on, lets look at the body of work, Aramis is most certainly an all star Well no, but if you look at his BA, I'm sure there's another 3B in the league more deserving then him. EDIT- And Spencer saves me some time. Thanks!
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 04:00 PM) And that may be kind. He's a butcher just like Ryan Braun is a butcher. The thing is, both can hit the living piss out of the ball. Ryan Braun hasn't made an error in LF this year. I like the piss comment, though.
-
QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 10:50 AM) Sounds like CC could be a Brewer any day based on the package they put together. LaPorta and 2 other top prospects. Milwaukee better be able to sign him for the package they may give up. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Prince a FA after the year? I wonder if Melvin will pony up the cash for CC and Prince (if that's even possible). Fielder will probably get 10 per and CC will probably get anywhere from 14-19 per.
-
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) Quentin is a stud and all... but I think Dye deserves it more. It shouldn't have been before the 2. Ichiro is hitting .280. Dye's BA is about 30-40 points higher then Manny's, and his SLG is in the .500's while Manny's is in the .400's. Manny's OBP is only about 8-10 points better then Dye's. Dye deserved it over Manny and Ichiro x10.
-
I've been giving the NL vote to Wright. Either way, I could care less. I would like to see C-Lee in the HR Derby.
