  1. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 05:26 PM) They have to be anticipating it. Perhaps they'll see what Harden will provide now, take it carefully with him entering August and September, then have him healthy (which for Harden seems to be 5-6 starts) and throw him at opponents down the stretch/into the playoffs. It appears to be an October move more than anything. No one in the right mind would acquire Harden anticipating him to make all his starts between now and the end of the season. The possibility of Zambrano/Harden in the playoffs looks a hell of a lot better than Zambrano/Dempster. But Sabathia/Sheets just looks so much better. As does Webb/Haren. BTW- does anybody else get annoyed when GMs and media call him Sa-Baith-e-a? Baith? Try Bath, dopes.
  2. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 05:04 PM) The media is going to be creaming themselves, so get used to it. It's worth the risk for the Cubs, and it could be a great deal, but Harden is such a health risk that you can't say it for sure. I wouldn't trust Billy Beane when it comes to the health of pitchers (SEE: Koch, Billy and Mulder, Mark). The Cubs HAD to make this deal though, they needed a couple more arms and with what Oakland was willing to take, had to do it. The fact they got the A's to throw in Gaudin was huge, because instead of an epic risk that could completely bomb out, at least they got a pretty decent arm in Gaudin in case Harden gets hurt, which is probably a 50/50 chance. That's true. It could turn out to be a 15 game winner (Gallagher) for a RP (Gaudin).
  3. I can't believe I just heard Dan Plesac say Harden will eat up innings.
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) I think the Cubs are definite NLC favorites now. They just got Harden... He's made 27 starts in 3 years. The Cubs are favorites now- in 3 weeks when he lands on the DL, they'll be behind the Brewers in terms of being the favorite.
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 05:31 PM) It is a horrible trade by the A's if Harden can stay healthy. Problem is, he can't. Gaudin could be pretty good in the NL though either way. I have no idea if Josh Donaldson is any good, but giving up Patterson and Murton shouldn't haunt them, but Gallagher could be a very good pitcher. This trade could go in a lot of different directions, but it seems like an odd trade by Oakland. I wonder if something is wrong with Harden, between this deal and the fact that Harden looked really bad on Sunday. It's a big risk by the Cubs, but I guess when you haven't won in a century you might as well try it. Overall, this is a risk for both teams, but could be looked at as a risk worth taking for both teams. This trade will be proclaimed as the steal of the century by the media, but really it could go either way. I'm very surprised and not sure what I think right now to be honest. The physical that pends that trade will show that. You can't trade an injured player.
  6. Gaudin and Harden for Gallagher, Donaldson, Patterson, and Murton. EDIT- Beat me to it.
  7. per Bruce Levine. Good. What a stupid move. This guy can't go more then 5 or 6 innings and will go on the DL 1 or 2 times the remaining of the year. What a buster. I hope they gave up Vitters or Gallagher.
  8. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 05:11 PM) What a scrub. Agreed. He blows.
  9. I think the Brewers can give the Chubs a run with their current team. However, if they could add a guy Ryan Rowland-Smith (2.9 ERA) from Seattle and/or Brian Fuentes (3.6 ERA, legit CP) from Colorado, then that would have to put them ahead in terms of being the favorites by 3-6 games.
  10. Campbell was just on MJH on 1000...said everything you've heard before: -Loves sports. Harry said he'll hook him up with some Sox/Cubs tickets. -Outdoor game will be awesome for Chicago. -Likes to run the PP. -Likes as much ice time as possible. -Harry asked him about what he's going to blow his dough on- Campbell told the guys he'll take them out for a couple beers.
  11. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 02:29 PM) Well, the Bears may need the field in January... But seriously, that's why. It takes a while to set up and tear down this thing... There wasn't a problem with Buffalo. The Bills had just as good of a shot of making the playoffs last year as the Bears do this year.
  12. Campbell press conference was just broke into my CSN. He said everything you've heard already: -Likes Chicago. -Didn't like the outdoor game until he scored, then he loved it. -FA's now want to come here. -Mikita/Hull night was amazing- fans were "hanging on the glass". -Likes the fact that he'll be apart of this organization for 8 years. -Scared Duncs might be faster then him, skating-wise. Loves the idea of possibly playing beside him. He'll be on CTL at 5:30 in studio and will be 1-on-1 with Josh Mora on SportsNite which starts at 10 CT.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 12:17 PM) bye pablo. I'll never forget your stolen base after pinch running for AJ in the ALCS. Crede knocked you in and we didn't lose after that. Amen. Thanks for everything you did for us in 2005!! If I ever see you in a bar, it's on me, bud! : QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 12:23 PM) Who is our backup 3B now?? Casey Blake. Seriously, though, maybe Fields.
  14. I'm going Sunday up to Milwaukee to see CC. Can't wait...
  15. QUOTE (Jim Spencer @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 10:32 AM) I wish Kong would of spent another 2 weeks with the Knights. I'm going to see them in Louisville on July 20th I hate games on the U, they always seem dark Oh well, GO SOX Actually, all games at Kauffman seem dark- until you're there.
  16. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 08:25 AM) Ah yes, the on paper vs. on the field debate. I'll take 2005 until they win it in 2008. That^. I'd like to sit here and say "yeah" but until we repeat what we did in 2005- no, we're not.
  17. Buehrle Floyd Danks Javy Put Contreras in the role El Duque was in in 2005.
  18. Yes sir, whitesox.com says Dye is in the 2nd. I bet Jose Guillen will be loving KC even more when he finishes last.
  19. If MIL can't get a guy like Brian Fuentes or another good RP, then I can definitley see them moving McClung to be their CP. Coming out of the 'pen a few years ago, he threw 97-100.
  20. Like they said, Rose looks like he'd rather be somewhere else.
  21. My fault, Jackie. I know Rose is 1. I believe Beasley is 44 (which is weird, because he will be 30 for the year). Rose hasn't done jack so far. BTW- I wonder if ThunderCats is their official name now? Also- I love how they keep making fun of David Padgett and Aaron Gray. Now they just called the package MIL sent to NJ for Jefferson a "bag of balls".
  22. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 03:11 PM) Sooo its... AL: Hamilton Sizemore Vlad NL: Uggla Utley Berkman I expect that Carlos will get asked. But then again it might be like Manny Ramirez or something stupid like that. I really hope Ankiel gets in for the NL. If you're not in the ASG, can you participate in the HR Derby? EDIT- Never mind. Vlad is in this year and he isn't an All-Star.
