QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 08:28 PM) That Milton Bradley guy is pretty good. That's "one", not "some".
-
Why does DJ keep saying the Rangers are without some of their stars? Laird was hitting .306 before his injury but he's a .257 career hitter and Blalock got off the HGH 2 years ago.
-
Q doubles in AJ. You know driving in a guy on 2nd with 0 outs 2 times in one inning would be too much to ask for.
-
-
Did DJ just say that was hit hard? BTW- I just found out that Saltalamacchia is married to one of his high school teachers. EDIT- Somebody already posted that earlier.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 08:15 PM) Wow AJ. Way to force the D to make a play. Go for 3 you f***, don't walk into 2nd with an easy double. At least you saved me a post with that one. Way to go, Q.

In other good news on the night, Minnesota is leading 3-1 on Detroit in the 7th.

I thought to myself before the game- "If we get the piss beat out of us, at least I can watch my boy Hamilton hit/play". Well, I'm not even getting that. He's DHing and he's swung at 3 pitches.
-
Good thing we brought him in. After Hamilton hits, it'll be 10-0.

Here comes DJC... Is that a Superman cape he's got on? It sure is!! Here he comes to save the day! *Superman song hits, blasting*

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 06:59 PM) Gavin's road ERA is going to be over 5 after this game. I'm really not looking forward to playing the Rangers 5 more times in the next 2 weeks. Hamilton's BA at home for the year is now probably around .360. His BA alone is now probably around .311. That means, he isn't doing so hot on the road. I guess what I'm saying is that could help.
-
Since Roger Clemens is on the mound for Texas, this game could already be over. Gavin is pitching like a puss. He isn't throwing his curveball for a strike and he isn't locating his fastball. It might be 7-0 after this inning, and like I said, with The Rocket out there for the Rangers, it'll be over then.

Just call him Captain Toews dailyherald.com -
I wouldn't mind if the Bears got him, I guess. Too bad it'd never happen.

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 10:29 AM) McDowell knew how to win games. People sometime dismiss the importance of the statistic for wins and I tend to agree. However, there are some guys that have an uncanny ability to win no matter what the offense gives them and not worry about the rest. McDowell was that guy. He would win 1-0 and 8-7 just as easily and you knew he would not break in either setting. He also pitched 9 innings, possibly more often than Buerhle. Sosa is not a White Sox star. He was a raw talent who did not "realize" his potential until well after he left the Sox. He also never learned how to hit the cutoff man. While Baines is known to many as a DH, he was a true RF whose knees broke him down into a DH. Prior to that, however, he could play well with a good arm. If anything, he should be the RF, not Sammy or JD. I always thought Dick Allen was a 1B with the Sox. Am I mistaken? To me he should be at 1st with Frank at DH, since that is really what he played most of his career. He really was never a good first baseman. I did not see mention of Luke Appling at SS, either. I know Aparicio was a great player, but Appling's BA was excellent and I believe he is in the HOF. I do not know a lot about Schalk, but I did see Fisk play. Maybe I did not appreciate him enough in my youth, but I always thought he was overrated. I might actually prefer AJ over Fisk, although Fisk might be better at throwing out runners. See Bench players.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread

QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 08:49 AM) Rose getting an MRI on that knee is making me kind of nervous. Agreed. This seems like one of those "precautionary" measures that the coaches downplay only for the player, in this case Rose, to miss about 20 games over the course of the year. -
This is what they did in their careers, not with the Sox, for whoever asked that question. BTW- I was looking at the wrong Ed Walsh. My bad.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 12:49 AM) The always reliable www.hittrackeronline.com has Dunn's home run today as the longest in the majors this season in terms of true distance. Having walked on Sheffield Avenue before, I can tell you it's about 50 or 60 feet from the back wall at Wrigley to where the ball hit while landing, plus it's probably another 50 to get it from the wall to the street at Wrigley. Add that in to the wall being about 370 feet or so away where he hit it, and you have the 480 foot or so estimate from that site. Wow. I would have never guessed 480. Well OK, I stand corrected.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 12:24 AM) I'm still laughing at Crede "making the team" over Ventura. I know Brian didn't get to see Robin, and I really only was able to see the tail end of his career with the Sox, but come on. What do you mean, I didn't see Robin? I was born in 1982. I know he was good. I gave the slight edge to Joe. I know Robin's OBP was so much better and his BA was a bit better, but Crede's 100+ points better in the playoffs and his FP which is about .010 higher gave him the edge. Don't forget Crede's countless clutch hits which I don't remember Robin getting as many or even too many to notice.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 12:12 AM) Where's Ed Walsh? Ted Lyons? Jack McDowell? Joel Horlen? Rudy Law? Julio Cruz? Sammy Sosa? Harold Baines? Ray Shalk? Ed Walsh? He pitched for 4 seasons and had an above 5 ERA. Lyons or McDowell? Not bad, either. Except, they had 3.67 and 3.85 ERAs respectively, while none of the 5 I mentioned had anything under 3.24. Horlen? Maybe. With a 3.11 lifetime ERA, I couldn't have gone wrong with him. Law? Maybe, too. Although, he only played for 7 years and his BA wasn't even abobe .275. I do admitt, his SB #'s are impressive. Sosa? I admitt, I totally forgot him. Put him there instead of Dye. Baines? Again, some how I forgot him. Stick him in the DH role in which I forgot as well. Schalk? Come on now. His BA was a measley .252 for his career.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 12:40 AM) I thought it was heading for the lake. In all seriousness though, I was there for that monster homer Thome hit against the Royals too out to center field about a month ago, but Dunn's today was longer IMO. It was amazing. I was there also. That went around 460-470. I don't think Dunn's today touched even 420, as RF is so short at Wrigley. I'd give it 425 at the most, but it was probably more around 415.
