Mike Clevinger to Sox per Rosenthal
Same question I had.

DeGrom 5/$185 to Texas
I'd rather give Rodon a bit less. He's 6 years younger and has pitched way more innings in the last 2 years. deGrom. when healthy, is far more dominant. But he's 35 and his main thing is velocity. Even if he manages to stay healthy, how long is he going to keep throwing 100+?

Maybe they're not all that confident in his ability to stay healthy.

Scratch That: Sox Interested in Wong...maybe...but Mariners Getting him
That's a lot more than I thought they'd get for Wong.

Quintana is more valuable to the Cardinals cause their defense is so good.

Now you see why Clevinger got $12 million.

They fucked up his sub against England too, tbh. He only played for 10 minutes but he was ready to sub on at least 5 minutes before that. Berhalter's subs have mostly been bad and untimely. Shaq Moore is awful and he keeps getting playing time late in games over Yedlin and Scally.

I really like their Candelario signing. He was a 4 WAR player in 2021.

Adams and Musah should see a huge boost to their reputation and value after this WC. Adams could get a transfer to a big team. He simply doesn't make mistakes as a holding mid and covers so well for our defenders. Musah is only 20 with a huge motor and already plays at Valencia. Both are playing out of their minds for us. Musah will be a monster with 4 years of development at a big club. Our midfield should be amazing by 2026. We just need somebody up front to finish our chances.

Probably because he's not fit to play more than 30 minutes. I think in a situation where we have to play for a goal late in the game he would make a lot of sense. We haven't really been in those situations so far.

I thought Sargent played well today. He held the ball very well and looked miles better than Haji Wright. I hope he and Pulisic are good to go for Saturday.

Pedro Grifol named White Sox manager; Katz asked to return per Rosey
Weird how Tosar didn't get the hitting coach job. Castro is Cuban, I wonder if he got the nod because he might be able to get along better with the Cubans on the roster.

Yeah, that's the good thing about both games starting at the same time.

Jose Abreu in Houston thread
Jose usually finishes the year strong, but he was basically a singles hitter last year down the stretch. There are some bad signs, but I think a change of scenery and Houston having better coaches and analytics will help him decline more gracefully.

I feel like this is more Hahn getting a guy he's liked since 2020.

And then they traded him for a whopping $19 million in guaranteed money...

Who would the Twins be willing to trade to us from their rotation? I doubt they'd trade any of their cost-controlled guys in Ryan, Ober, or Winder. Mahle and Maeda have injury issues. Gray would make sense, but the only way he's coming back is if the Twins are punting on 2023 and rebuilding.

Feels like Milwaukee is doing what the Sox did with Kimbrel last year.

Leury and Kelly were definitely TLR-influenced moves. We overpaid Kelly even though he was injured at the time of his signing.

Your 2023 Off-Season Plan
Alright, here's what I don't get... Jerry was fine with Hahn picking up Kimbrel's $16 million option, but he wasn't ok with paying $2 million more for Rodon's QO? That money isn't even guaranteed since Rodon might reject it. And going by the deal he ended up getting, he probably would have rejected the QO and signed elsewhere. The Sox cost themselves a comp pick just because Jerry was penny pinching over $2 million imaginary dollars.
