Sox engaged in "advanced trade discussions"
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 04:20 PM) Posted this in MLB-Catch-ALL but don't feel like starting another thread. Cardinals just signed Lance Berkman! OF/1B but more OF clearly. Does this make Rasmus available? No, because the Cardinals don't have anybody else who can play CF.

Sox engaged in "advanced trade discussions"
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) Flowers for Bell? Ok...I know that they lost badly on the deal with Boston, but that'd be pretty darn embarrassing. Not just Flowers obviously, but he'd probably have to be the main piece. If we don't trade Viciedo, the next best thing we have is Flowers. Unless we want to trade Mitchell or Morel.

Sox engaged in "advanced trade discussions"
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 02:09 PM) Yeah. With Gonzalez gone, what's the point in holding onto Bell? Viciedo for Bell is a nice trade for both sides. I would hate to make that deal. Give 'em Tyler Flowers instead. San Diego's pretty thin at catcher aren't they?

White Sox Sign Dunn
QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 01:33 PM) Please stop with this restricted payroll/budget nonsense. No other fanbase is more consumed about money than those of the Chicago White Sox. The Sox owners are not poor. There is no salary cap in baseball. Chicago is no worse than the third largest baseball market in the known universe. Count the Cubs and Chicago is second only to New York and that's because of population, not interest. We could have a 180 million dollar payroll if they so ordered. The naivety is astounding. Reinsdorf and his management has been conditioning its fanbase for close to 30 years. They're not poor, but they have a history of being stingy. And man, is it so hard to keep everything on fewer lines?

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 12:34 PM) Looks like Jeter's deal is 3/51 Yuck.

Boston DOES Acquire Gonzalez
Bad deal for the Padres. Kelly's been very underwhelming in the minors so far.

White Sox Sign Dunn
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 02:11 AM) Dunn as a DH is a 6.0 WAR player. 6 more wins a season. That is HUGE. There are only a handful of those guys in baseball. He's not a 6 WAR player as a DH. He's a 4 WAR player at DH. His max potential is probably a 5 WAR DH, which is pretty damn incredible. It's very hard for a DH to eclipse 5 WAR because of the -17.5 positional adjustment for the position. That's like being a -5 fielder at 1B or a -10 fielder in LF or RF.

Boston DOES Acquire Gonzalez
Wonder who the Pads will get back.

White Sox trade Scott Linebrink to Braves
This is awesome, we just shed $4 million in payroll. Kenny's on a roll.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
Joel Peralta got cut loose. Guy had a 2.02 ERA and a 3 FIP last year in 40 innings. He might be worth a good look.

Ron Santo has passed away.
Sad day for the Cubs and their fans. Maybe this can get Santo into the Hall. He probably should have been in long before this though.

Lee or Konerko?
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 06:52 AM) Exactly my thoughts since money doesn't appear to be an issue. It will be in the long run. Committing almost $45 million of your payroll on 3 players for the next 2-3 years isn't a good idea, especially when one of them is 35 and the other just came off a terrible injury.
-
Pierzynski Back; 2 years, $8 million
s***, I'd sure like to have Russel Martin for the cheap right now. Nothing against A.J.
-
Matt Diaz?
Eh, I'd take him as a bench player. He had areal nice 2009 and then backed that up with a .320 wOBA season.
-
Merry Christmas Sox Fans?!?!
We're getting into Chicago Cubs territory here when it comes to the spending. WTF?

Lee or Konerko?
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 10:20 PM) Do you think up to this point that the Sox have had more conversation with Konerko or DLee? Konerko of course...
-
Nobody is talking about this
I think Sale is much more valuable to the bullpen at the moment. He's likely to hurt himself as a starter. Plus, if Putz isn't back, he'd have to be the setup man or closer.

White Sox Sign Dunn
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 10:16 PM) + $400K Castro + $3M+ Danks + $2.25M Floyd + $500K Linebrink + $1M Peavy + Tony Pena salary increase + $2M Pierre + ~$1.8M Quentin + $1.65 Ramirez + $2.3M Rios + $2.5M Teahen + $750K Thornton Our payroll is at about $98M right now not counting Pena, Quentin or Danks and assuming Dunn will be paid $14M in 2011. I wonder if JR is willing to spend $12 million extra on Putz and Lee...
-
Lee or Konerko?
Didn't KW say something about how he wanted to deal with PK first and then A.J.? If that's the case, shouldn't the A.J. signing mean that the PK ship has kind of sailed?
-
Lee or Konerko?
QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 09:55 PM) Is there anything new on the LaRoche front? What about him instead of D-Lee? LaRoche is a bit too inconsistent for my liking over the course of an entire season (I'd take him at the deadline though). Plus, his defense kind of sucks.
-
Pierzynski Back; 2 years, $8 million
We better get Paulie back or some guy who can hit 5th to play 1B. I don't want to see AJP bat higher than 7th in this lineup.
-
Pierzynski Back; 2 years, $8 million
A.J.'s definitely worth $4 million. Not bad. Now we just have to re-sign Putz and get ourselves a 1B.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 04:32 PM) They just mentioned on the score the Sox are looking at Tim Byrdak. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/byrdati01.shtml Maybe Thornton can finally be the closer now that there's a LOOGY. If they sign him of course.
-
Lee or Konerko?
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 07:02 PM) I hate him already. His game isn't far off from Andruw's, except he's not any good in the field or anything. Pena's a pretty good defender.
-
Lee or Konerko?
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 06:57 PM) Carlos Pena. Seriously. I think last year was an outlier for him. I would easily go 2 years on Pena before Konerko. Can you imagine the amount of Ks between Pena and Dunn? They're a bit too similar.
